"Pizza delivery!"

Liam wiped the sweat off his forehead, took a deep breath, and forced on his best professional smile.

No matter how difficult the customer, a smile usually smoothed thing over. That had always been his experience.

The hotel door swung open.

"That was fast..."

The voice cut off.

The moment their eyes met, Liam’s smile froze.

Standing in the doorway was Nina. His wife. His wife of five years.

She averted her gaze. And standing right beside her, smirking like he owned the damn world, was some tall, cocky-looking guy. His arm draped around Nina’s waist like she was his.

Liam’s throat tightened. His voice barely came out.

"Babe? What the hell are you doing here?"

The guy chuckled, shaking his head like this was the funniest thing he'd ever seen.

"So you’re Liam? Nina’s loser husband?" His smirk widened. "Damn, delivering pizzas? Classic broke-boy move."

Liam’s blood ran hot. His fists clenched at his sides.

But the guy wasn’t done. Still grinning, he leaned in, voice dripping with mockery.

"Oh yeah, you asked what she’s doing here?"

He chuckled. "Remember that extra stop your boss had you make? The one where you grabbed something from the convenience store?"

His smirk deepened. "Well, now you know why. Pretty obvious, huh?"

Liam’s stomach twisted.

That stop.

His boss had told him to buy a condom on his way here.

Said the customer promised a fat tip.

He never expected the "customer" to be his wife.

Liam ignored the guy. His jaw was tight as he grabbed Nina’s hand, his voice low, barely controlled.

"Nina. Tell me this is a business meeting. Tell me there are other people in that room."

For one stupid second, he held onto hope.

Then she yanked her hand away like his touch disgusted her.

And worse… She wiped her palm on her dress.

Her voice was ice.

"Since you’ve already seen it all, there’s no point hiding it anymore."

She crossed her arms. "Face it, Liam. We’re not in the same world anymore."

Her words stabbed deeper than a knife.

"You’re just dead weight holding me back. Let’s end this cleanly, okay?"

“I want a divorce!”

Liam barely heard the breath leave his own lungs.

"...You want a divorce?"

The guy beside her let out an obnoxious, belly-deep laugh.

"You hear that, loser? You’re a ‘dead weight.’ A nobody!"

"And me? I’m Jake Johnson! The heir to the Johnson family—one of the richest in Riverside City!"

“Problem solved! That’s why she chose me, not you!

"I can give Nina billion-dollar deals. What can you give her?" His voice turned mocking. "A two-for-one pizza coupon?"

Liam took a step back. His breath was shaky, like someone had just slammed a sledgehammer into his chest.

Five years.

Five. Damn. Years.

And now he was just dead weight?

His voice trembled with anger, with disbelief.

"Nina. Are you serious?"

She rolled her eyes. "Liam, I’m the CEO of Nova Group. A billion-dollar company."

She gestured at him, unimpressed. "And you? You’re a pizza guy. Get it?"

Liam stared at her like she was a stranger.

He couldn’t believe his ears. This was the same woman who used to hold his hand and dream about the future. The same woman who slurped cheap can food with him, swearing they’d make it together.

“In richer or poorer, as long as we both shall live.”

Bullshit.

His voice turned raw.

"Nina. When you started your company, who gave you every last dime they had?"

"Who worked their ass off—rain, snow, whatever?"

"Who came home, cooked, cleaned, took care of everything?"

He exhaled sharply, trying to keep himself together.

"You didn’t want kids—you said they’d hold you back. And I just… accepted it."

“And now, just because I don’t wear a suit and drive a sports car, I’m nothing to you?"

Nina let out a sigh, waving a hand dismissively.

"Liam, why are you bringing up the past? I’m moving toward a better future." She tilted her head. "Everyone wants more money. What’s wrong with me?"

Liam felt like he'd been punched in the gut.

All those years.

All his sacrifices.

They meant nothing to her.

His voice dropped, low and dangerous.

"So money and power are all that matter to you?"

He let out a bitter laugh. "If it weren’t for you saying you wanted to marry someone ‘on the same level,’ I wouldn’t have hidden who I really am—"

CRACK!

Before he could finish, Nina’s hand lashed out.

The slap echoed through the hallway.

"Enough!" she snapped.

"Stop hounding me like a damn dog!"

"Sign the divorce papers, and I can give you ten million, a beachfront villa, and a Rolls-Royce."

“Consider it my final act of kindness."

Liam barely felt the sting on his cheek.

The pain in his chest drowned everything else out.

Slowly, he raised a hand to his face… then chuckled. Low. Hollow.

"That slap?" His lips curled into a humorless smirk. "That just severed whatever was left between us, Nina."

"I hope you get everything you’re chasing."

His eyes turned cold.

"But don’t come crawling back when you realize what you lost."
