"Father, are you alright?" Thomas and Lisa asked with a concerned tone as they continued to check Robert's body for any signs of injury. Even Sarah had a look of concern on her face.
"Do you feel any discomfort? Should I call the doctor to come and prescribe some medications?" Lisa asked again in worry.
"There is no need, I am alright so you don't have too much." Robert finally responded to Thomas and Lisa.
Earlier, he was stunned for a couple of seconds as he tried to recover from the shock of what had just happened. There is no doubt that Robert was one of the prestigious individuals in the society, he had a lot of reliable connections and his wealth was significant to the public at large.
Therefore, Robert was always treated with a wonderful level of respect every time and this was actually the first time someone had actually dared to push him recklessly regardless of his identity.
"Are you alright, Father?" Sarah also asked
Sarah suddenly was yelled at by Thomas. "Shut up! You continue to disgrace this family with your unfilial attitude." Thomas said.
Sarah was a bit confused by Thomas' sudden accusation. "I don't understand what you meant because I was only asking about my father's health condition."
"You are so unscrupulous, it's obvious that you are only asking out of contempt." Thomas replied with a frown.
In response, Aiden snapped at Thomas and told him, "You don't have the right to address my mother in such an uncourteous manner." He warned.
"Has your son gone mad, Sarah? How could he carelessly push our father away like that and speak to us without respect? Is this the repugnant education you offered your child on how to treat his elders?" Lisa also seized the opportunity to berate Sarah.
Aiden wanted to respond to Lisa's statement, but Sarah grabbed his arm as a sign to caution him not to speak.
The situation might seem like Thomas and Lisa were defending Robert's integrity. In reality, they were only interested in their own personal best interests in order to increase Robert's favoritism.
"No, this isn't true and you are having a misunderstanding. Aiden was only concerned and trying to protect me. I can guarantee that he didn't mean to push you carelessly."
When Sarah realized that Thomas and Lisa were trying to boost their status at the expense of her by making her situation worse, she hurriedly gave an explanation to ease the tension
"Nonsense, this is obviously a ploy you had already planned with your unprincipled son to harm Father if he refused to render any assistance to you and your miserable family. If that isn't the case then I don't see any reason why you needed protection when you weren't in any danger." Thomas remarked.
Sarah was rendered speechless by Thomas' comment. Obviously, Thomas and Lisa were present in the room when she was kicked by Robert and they were also watching when Robert was about to hit her with his cane which Aiden prevented. However, they were simply ignoring these clear facts and trying to put the blame on both Aiden and herself by playing the victims themselves.
Nonetheless, Sarah wasn't willing to give up and let them have their way. "I admit that Aiden may have overreacted but he was only concerned about my safety when Father almost hit me with his wooden cane."
"Preposterous. The only thing you're right about is admitting that your son overreacted. However, you still dare to accuse Father of such a lowly act. Do you think Father is cruel enough to attack you with a wooden weapon? " Thomas asked rhetorically
"But you all clearly saw when he raised the stick to hit me." Sarah also insisted.
Thomas shamelessly denied Sarah's comments."Father was trying to hit you with his cane, he was only trying to scare you away. Besides, you were the one that provoked him."
"My guess is that these are part of your plan. You intentionally wanted your father to hurt you so that you could use that fact to blackmail us for whatever you wanted. How could you do such things to the people you call family?" Lisa added.
Aiden was enraged by the entire scenario. He realized that at this moment these people would continue to disregard whatever Sarah said by repeatedly placing blame on him. In the end, he could no longer stand how Thomas and Lisa belittled him and his mother.
Sarah had a sullen expression on her face and she looked defeated at that moment. At this point Aiden decided it was time for him to step in and defend his mother's dignity.
"You people have no conscience. It just occurred to me that all of you are extremely narrow-minded people. I used to have a great deal of respect for this family, but now I realize how cunning you are. Just because my mother married my father against your wishes, she was abandoned by this family. Now she has returned to ask for your help in desperation, all you did was to only insult and humiliate us ever since we got here but my mother was almost got severely injured when that old man tried to hit her with his wooden can."
"However, you are shamelessly ignoring these facts and trying to place all the blame on us. Yet, you claim that our family is uncultured just because we aren't as prestigious as this family. It is evident you all are deceitful and should be embarrassed." Aiden concluded.
Robert was infuriated at Aiden's remarks, which struck his sore spot, but his ego would not allow him to admit his error. "You silly brat, stop being delusional. Do you think you have enough qualifications to compare yourself to us? Anyone would consider it a privilege to be related to this family."
"If being unethical is the way to be a part of this family then I would gladly reject it and our family can surely do well on our own." Aiden declared with pride.
"You will surely regret that decision. We wouldn't accept a low-life like you into our family because you belong in the slums and there's nothing you can do to make yourself conform to our family standards." Thomas suddenly interjected in the conversation to taunt Aiden.
Again, Aiden felt ridiculed because Thomas' words were true. However, it didn't matter because at this moment he had a burning desire to prove them wrong.
"I agree with you that we are far behind this family in every ways but I can guarantee that I will surely overcome that gap one day." Aiden
"Hahahaha……You are definitely out of your mind. Andersons are among the city's most prominent families. In a short time, it is impossible for a begger like you to overcome that status." Lisa smiled smugly.
"Mr Anderson, I would like to apologize for coming into your house and causing a nuisance. It is the last time that this kind of thing will happen and I promise never to return." Sarah had grown tired of being looked down upon by her family members. She could endure every insult thrown at her but she couldn't withstand Aiden being treated poorly.
The reason they were in this mess was because she insisted on asking her family for help, and Aiden suggested coming along. However, things didn't turn out as she expected. It has also become clear that she wasn't considered a member of the family. Therefore, Sarah began addressing Robert formally.
"You shouldn't have come here in the first place." Robert said with a displeased look.
"I won't make the same mistakes again." Sarah bowed respectfully.
"I'll overlook what happened here today for the sake of our past relationship but don't ever come here uninvited again." Robert replied with a pompous attitude.
"We will be leaving now." Sarah said and dragged Aiden along with her.
Aiden could see the tiny string of tears falling from Sarah's eyes. It was a difficult decision for her to make and Aiden understood the sacrifice Sarah made by choosing her marriage over her family.
At this point, Aiden was immensely determined to take revenge on the Andersons for the humiliation they suffered today. However, as soon as they left the Anderson premises, something he hadn't expected and couldn't explain happened to him.
