“Flames of consumption? What’s that?” Jeremiah asked.

“Truthfully, I don’t know that much about it as the only information I have is what I was able to eavesdrop from Dark Emblem’s communication channel before they made doing that near impossible to achieve,” Obadiah said and Jeremiah groaned.

“Then according to the little you do know, what is it?” Jeremiah asked.

“Well, it is what the name implies. Instead of flames that burn whatever they engulf, the flames of consumption absorb the energy of whatever they touch. The way oxygen is what determines the intensity and duration of a fire, the energy of whatever is being consumed is what fuels the flames of consumption and since the energy of a plant is what makes look healthy, it becoming dried and withering is the result of losing it” Obadiah said.

Jeremiah grimaced and groaned in frustration as yet another question arose after hearing the explanation.

“But how did this happen? I thought you were just testing my magic to figure out ho

This was the first time since their encounter the afternoon of the previous day that they were meeting Jeremiah again and after how bad last time went, they could only be fearful of what would happen. Also, finding out that Jeremiah was the one who caught Desmond and beat him so bad he had to be hospitalized, the rest of David’s friends couldn’t help but be terrified that he was a violent maniac who could lash out at them at any moment. “Y-young master” Benson stuttered as he and all of David’s friends bowed their heads to Jeremiah. “Looks like you’re all leaving. What about David?” Jeremiah said and they all nodded, unable to maintain eye contact. “D-David would be staying back because his sister and grandfather came to visit, Y-young Master” Benson answered. Jeremiah groaned, already tired of how they were behaving towards him. The only ones who acted normal were Kristin and Brenda who couldn’t stop smiling as they looked at Jeremiah. “Good morning, young master” Brenda

As Jeremiah headed to his room and was just about to climb the stairs, he saw David and his grandfather standing at the top of the stairs with their backs turned to him. He grimaced, wondering why they were standing there motionless. Then he realized the reason—they weren’t alone. Someone else was with them, hidden behind the two men’s imposing figures. From where he stood, Jeremiah could only see the third person’s legs and part of their clothing, making it difficult to identify them at first. However, with those small details, he was able to figure out who it was. “What did you just say to me?” David asked, a tinge of disgust in his tone. It wouldn’t take a genius to know that he felt disrespected by whatever she just said to him, but the question you now is; what exactly did she say? Christabel gulped, her eyes blinking multiple times to emphasize her nerves. “I-I said that I apologize but I won’t be able to carry out the task you gave as I obey a new master now,” Chris

“Who the hell are you?” David’s grandfather asked aggressively. Jeremiah looked at the elderly man from head to toe and scoffed. If there was one thing he despised more than anything, it was people using their authority and power to bully those they perceived as weaker. His second greatest dislike was elderly people failing to act their age.In Jeremiah’s mind, the elderly should be kind and patient with the younger generation, teaching them wisdom instead of throwing insults and abusing them but here was David’s grandfather who was doing the exact opposite. What made it even worse was that, as a relative of the king, David’s grandfather’s behavior tarnished Reginald’s reputation. And as Reginald’s son, Jeremiah wasn’t about to let that happen—especially not to his new personal maid.“Grandfather, I think you should—” David said, trying to get his grandfather to calm down, but the elderly man was too focused on Jeremiah to care for anything he had to say. “How dare you look me in t

Bruce was so loud that even Brenda and Kristin, who were outside waiting for their driver to take them back to school, came into the castle to find out what was going on. “Young master Jeremiah?” Kristin said softly, wondering what Jeremiah was doing with David and an elderly man at the top of the stairs.Just like everyone else who was watching, the two girls wondered why it looked like the elderly man and Jeremiah were in a fight with the way their hands were.Kristin tried to get closer, wanting to make sure Jeremiah was okay but Brenda quickly held her back.“Where do you think you’re going?” Brenda asked, staring confusedly at her best friend. “I was just…” Kristin said but Brenda cut her off.“Can’t you see David up there too? Something tells me that the old guy is related to him and young master Jeremiah which means he’s related to the king so are you sure you still want to take yourself up there?” Brenda asked.Kristin looked at the scene again and realized that Brenda was r

After realizing the truth, Bruce started contemplating how to get out of the mess he had put himself into.If only he had listened to David, who had tried multiple times to warn him, none of this would have happened. His stubbornness and ego had unsurprisingly turned out to be a great detriment. “S-so what my grandson said about you is true and you are…” Bruce said and Jeremiah’s cold gaze sent chills down his spine which was all the answer he needed. “What have I done?” Bruce mumbled and started trembling. All the years Bruce had spent trying to stay on Reginald’s good side could come crashing down because of what he had done, and if that happened, he would have no one to blame but himself.Seeing how much trouble his grandfather was in, David, who didn’t want to anger Jeremiah more still felt the need to help but how can he go about doing that? This was truly a tough situation. “Cousin, can you just let this go just this once? Grandpa made a mistake and—“ David said but quickly

Jeremiah looked at Jessica who had managed to steal everyone’s attention with her energetic arrival and sudden showcase of affection. She pulled away a bit to look at Jeremiah’s face. “You’re confused about who I am, aren’t you? Don’t worry, cousin, I’ll introduce myself quickly” Jessica said then let go of Jeremiah and stepped back.“My name is Jessica Garrick but those close to me call me Jess. I’m your lovely and beautiful younger cousin who’s seventeen years old but will be turning eighteen in a few weeks. I hope we can be close and be like siblings instead of cousins” Jessica said.“Jessica, what are you doing here?” David asked and Jessica looked at him. She saw how angry he was at her presence then she rolled her eyes and returned her focus to Jeremiah.“Don’t mind my busybody older brother. He’s the only person I wish didn’t call me Jess but you can if you want. Anyway, what’s going on here?” Jessica said then she looked at Bruce who was still worried about what Jeremiah wa

But, if you knew what I was doing then why did you agree to go ahead with it and leave with me?” She said Jeremiah smirked.“You’re not the only one who thinks they’d like the other. I also had a feeling that we would get along so I wanted to let you have your way and after all that acting, I thought you deserved it” Jeremiah said and Jessica’s eyes blinked multiple times.“Besides, I didn’t really want to do anything to someone that old so in a way I too am grateful you did what y

They all continued climbing the stairs but at a faster pace until they got to Jeremiah, Jessica, and their two maids. “We’ve been looking for you, young master,” Elizabeth said then she looked at Christabel and said “Good job finding the young master”“Thank you, Headmaid” Christabel replied.“I’m glad we found you just in time because I was starting to think that wouldn’t be able to attend the funeral,” Elizabeth said to Jeremiah. “I had something to do this morning but I finished early and always planned on attending the funeral. Anyway, I’m here now so we can—“ Jeremiah said but then focused on the guard and grimaced.“Why are you here?” He asked. Elizabeth glanced at the guard, who, like Jessica, stood out as the odd one, then returned her gaze to Jeremiah and said, “Since we were worried you might be too busy to carry the body, I decided to bring him along to help us.”

Reginald had to admit that Jeremiah made a lot of sense with what he had said. Things were very dangerous with Dark Emblem knowing Jeremiah’s whereabouts and were going to attack him at any moment. Reginald was already someone they wanted dead— although he wasn’t a priority like Jeremiah and Obadiah were— so it would basically be the same as putting him on a silver platter if he was anywhere near Jeremiah whenever Dark Emblem decided to attack. They would definitely kill him first if the opportunity presented itself. Or worst-case scenario, they would try to use him as a hostage and make Jeremiah unable to attack as strongly as he would have. Granted, the likelihood Dark Emblem does that is very low because they didn’t have a good impression of Lord Crimson and thought he didn’t care about any human being enough for them to work as a hostage against him. However, the fact that Jeremiah risked his life to save everyone at the welcome ceremony, made things different and that narrat

Jeremiah went ahead to tell Reginald, Kingston, and Lynette what happened— the same as he did with Obadiah, shocking them with each detail he gave, and when he was done, they went silent for an extended period before regaining their composure.[“I didn’t think you would be discovered this quickly after moving back to Bakers View, son”] Reginald said and then groaned—pondering what to say next. [“However, now that the cat is out of the bag and they are coming for you, we have no choice but to look for a way forward. With that said, what’s your plan?”] “My plan, huh? Well, it’s very simple. To fight!” Jeremiah said, resolve echoing from his eyes. Reginald chuckled lightly.[“I wouldn’t have expected anything different. In that case, you will be needing help if you hope to survive this. I’m assuming you’ve decided to have Bakers View as the battleground”]“Yes, I do. Now, I want you to go find my father and put me on speaker phone cause there’s something I want to tell the two of you—“ Jeremiah said but was interrupted. • CHAPTER 301

Jeremiah walked around the store in a soured mood, arrived at the front, and got on his motorcycle. He drove back home, all the while thinking about Grey Lucian, who was someplace he couldn’t find, and the fact that he couldn’t tell if Grey was watching him as he went back to the estate pissed him off. Anyone else would have been in a constant state of fear and worry but not Jeremiah. He believed in his capabilities as a dragon and mage and that he was able to have a calm mind. Plus, he knew that it would take some time for the members of Dark Emblem to be ready enough to attack him so in that meantime he was safe. The future, however, was a different story. For the moment, Jeremiah’s concern was on the issue of the tracking spell Grey had put on him. From the looks of it, Grey might have either been telling the truth or lying through his teeth because no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t sense the magic of the spell on him. Even if he could sense the mana, it would only mean

  • CHAPTER 300

Jeremiah’s face twitched after hearing Andrews call him his other name. “So you know about my real identity too. That’s interesting” Jeremiah scoffed then did a scan of the other people standing and watching him and Andrews. “That’s a neat trick. Unfortunately, your illusions don’t work on me— not anymore anyway— so it would be better if you just deactivate it and stop wasting mana” Jeremiah said. Andrews looked at the other people on the premises, who smiled at him and Jeremiah, groaned and said “I wonder what changed to make my magic no longer work on you. Is it perhaps that box you won from the auction because it would make sense why you were so interested in it.” Andrews chuckled, returned his gaze to Jeremiah, and continued, “It’s a shame I didn’t see how valuable it was to bid for it. But even if I had, you would have outbid me, wouldn’t you?” Andrews deactivated his illusion magic and everyone on the premises, beside him and Jeremiah, disappeared. “…” Jeremiah refraine

  • CHAPTER 299

Reliving his memories of the auction, Jeremiah started to notice some strange inconsistencies with them like a veil was being lifted off his mind. To be specific, his memories of Andrews and Martha took on a different and clearer light and he realized the truth which was that there was nobody like Martha in the entire auction. However, that didn’t make sense because not only him but the auctioneer and everyone else in the auction house interacted with her so what was going on?Jeremiah was confused and the more his memories of the auction cleared, the more he understood until finally he realized what happened— Martha was never real and was created by an illusion spell to trick not just him but everyone else in the auction. Just as he figured that out and the false memories were cleared off his mind, leaving only the real one, Jeremiah realized that he had figured out the truth before but back when he did, something— the veil as he termed it— covered his mind and made him forget unt

  • CHAPTER 298

All the salespeople who saw Jeremiah walk past them greeted him because they remembered seeing him go to the auction area with the manager earlier. Then not king after, Jeremiah made it out of the store. He walked over to his motorcycle and got on. However, instead of driving away, he first called Daniel to let him know that he had gotten the ring.He took out his phone from his pocket, woke the screen, and to his surprise he had two missed calls from Daniel that came during the auction.“That’s right, I put my phone on silent mode when I entered the auction house so as not to cause any distractions,” Jeremiah said to himself. The manager had been the one who asked him if his phone was on silent mode and told him to put it on when they entered the auction area. It was a rule of the auction house that all phones were either switched off or on silent mode so they didn’t make noise.Jeremiah quickly deactivated his phone’s silent mode and called Daniel. After ringing for a few seconds,

“Thank you all for coming. We promise to get even better items and invite you guys for an even better experience in the near future. As for those who won the auctioned items, your items will be ready for you when you leave so be sure to get them on your way out.” The auctioneer took a deep breath and sighed— happy with the turnout of the day’s auction as it was the most successful one he had ever hosted.“I have been Evans Nelson, your auctioneer for today and I’ll be seeing you guys really soon,” The auctioneer said, bowed in respect, and walked away while the bidders clapped for him.Since they had accomplished their purpose for being there, everyone started getting up from their seats but instead of leaving like they normally would, they hung around. They talked to each other, discussing the experience they had with that particular auction, while their eyes were discretely on Jeremiah, waiting for the perfect moment to talk to him. They had been planning their approach ever since

  • CHAPTER 296

“Two hundred million dollars!” Andrew’s words echoed through the entire auction house. “Wow,” the auctioneer said, a strong look of amazement adorned on his face “To think that I wouldn’t even get the chance to call the starting price before it got pushed to such an insane amount. Looks like I can always count on you, Master Andrews, to make this auction very interesting.” Though everyone was annoyed by Andrews's offer, the auctioneer was elated. Since the price had been made to start at two hundred million dollars and he was to get five percent of that, his ten million dollars was already set.Ten million dollars, however, wasn’t enough for the auctioneer. He was greedy— wanting more money—and for that, he had to see if the other bidders were willing to up the price. Martha had said earlier that none of the other bidders should bother bidding when Andrews had taken interest in any of the items being auctioned because he was always going to outbid them and that pissed the auctionee
