Chapter 2

“30 billion dollars?!” Mason exclaimed.

Mason was astonished. He knew his grandfather was wealthy or so he had heard but he never really got to wrap his head around how wealthy he was. He had left home when he was just a little over ten years old and had thought that every child lived in a huge mansion with servants.

Right now though, he understood just how rich Christian Wilde was.

If Gerald spoke so casually about 30 billion dollars he wondered just how much money will leave him as speechless as he is right now.

Mason felt moved, but at that same moment he remembered his parents and shook off the sentiments.

“Young master, I understand your frustration. You are one of the few Wilde’s left. You know your uncles and aunt did not have children, they thought it pointless.” Gerald started.

“If you come home, the entire inheritance is yours. No one else’s.”

Mason wasn’t swayed just yet.

Gerald sighed, “in other news, your grandfather just acquired Microloft group for 200 billion dollars. Increasing your potential net worth to almost a trillion dollars.”

Mason gaped.

“Your grandfather has appointed you as the chairman, to oversee all the affairs of the group in his stead. It will be announced tomorrow.”

“He’s trying to make amends, young Master.” Gerald added.

Mason stood, as if in a trance.

He wasn’t sure what to make of this overly generous gesture.

Acquiring microloft felt too much like an overkill in Mason’s opinion.

He was debating whether he should accept the offer from his grandfather when he remembered all the hardship he had faced growing up, especially in the hands of the Rodneys.

They were all nothing in the face of his grandfather and the Microloft group!

“I understand this would be quite overwhelming for anyone. I will allow you some time to think, young master. I will be in touch. Please take my card, give me a call if you need anything, anything at all” Gerald said and left Mason.

Mason stepped outside and placed a call to Pikan hospital, making inquiries about Mr Carter’s status.

“Oh yes, he was transferred here some hours ago. The bill including his recovery and physiotherapy is 2.6million dollars, sir. I understand you have insurance?” The voice spoke over the phone.

“I would like to pay by wire transfer please.” Mason said.

“Wire  transfer 2.5 million dollars?” The lady asked

“Yes. Is that not allowed?” Mason asked.

“It is, sir. Just to be clear this is Mason Wilde?” The woman asked.

Mason got increasingly irritated. She was looking down on him, like everyone did.

“”I’ve sent the details to your email sir.”

Mason hung up and made the transfer and to his surprise, it went through.

Had he just become a billionaire in an hour?

He called the woman to confirm his wire transfer and left the hospital.

At home, Vivian was yelling at Scarlet, demanding she divorce Mason.

“Are you not tired of the shame?! Why won’t you divorce him and rid us of this embarrassment?”

“Your grandmother might just decide to remove you from the company. Your grand dad is dead after all.” Vivian said.

“If I’m fired. I will get another job.”

Scarlet retorted back.

“What is so good about the loser anyway?!”

Scarlet’s father exclaimed.

“Ric has had eyes for you since you were a teenager. He still wants you even after you’ve been with that good for nothing. You hardly find good men that want to marry a divorced woman!” Her mom yelled.

“I’m not having any of this, mom and dad. I’m not leaving Mason and that is final.”

“You ungrateful child!!” Her mom said and slapped her. At that moment Mason walked in.

“Please leave my house.” Mason said. Scarlet’s parents gasped.

“Scarlet, are you going to let this loser kick us out?”

“He’s right. Please leave. I'll see you both tomorrow.” Scarlet said, holding her cheek

“You dare kick us out of the house we paid for?” Vivian asked.

“Please, mom!” Scarlet yelled.

Her parents left the house but not before throwing more insults on Mason.

Mason and Scarlet retreated to their room.

They had lived with her parents for the first three years of their marriage but had to move out due to the harsh conditions they provided for Mason.

They could not afford to take out a loan so vivian offered to cover the mortgage, in exchange for Scarlet keeping quiet about her possessing some company property.

Her mom didn’t pass up the chance to throw it in her face every now and then.

It was a small one bedroom apartment. Very small for the heir to the Rodney’s but Scarlet was at the point where she didn’t think madam Rodney would actually let her inherit anything.

She was hated by proxy due to her husband and the only reason she was still employed there was because of her grandfather’s wish as well as her beauty which attracted suitors to invest in the company.

“How is Mr Carter? I’m sorry I haven’t been able to visit. I should be able to whip up 250k. That should hold for a while right?” Scarlet asked.

“Mr Carter’s bill has been paid off.” Mason said.

“Oh really? How? Did you take out a loan?”

Mason couldn’t disclose his identity just yet. He hadn’t even come to terms with his new status and wealth.

“No, one of the foster kids he took care of found out and paid in full. Had him transferred to Pikan and everything.”

“That’s wonderful! Thank God!” Scarlet gleamed.

“Thank you. Well, goodnight.” Mason said and headed for the living room which is where he slept.

They had been married for half a decade but never consummated their marriage. For some reason, they never got around to it and never saw the reason to as their marriage wasn’t one out of love. Neither of them wanted children anyway so they never did.

Mason went to the living room and laid on the couch.

“Mason?” Scarlet called to him.

“Yes? Can’t sleep?”

“No. The company is really not doing well. The price of our stocks have plummeted yet again and we’re losing face in the social circle.”

“That is why the pressure to divorce you from my family is more intense now. They believe a marital alliance with the Wilsons can help.”

Scarlet sighed.

“What about Microloft? Have you sought out business with them?”

Scarlet laughed heartily.

“Microloft? When in h*ll will we be granted even an audience? You can’t even enter the building.”

“Even the Wilson’s have tried and failed at securing an investment. They’re like lap dogs to them.”

Mason knew all of these.

He was sure the Wilson’s and the Rodney’s would have never fathomed that he was now the chairman of Microloft group.

Although he had not officially accepted the position, thinking about how unfairly his wife was treated by her own family, he decided to assume the position so as to pull the strings in Scarlet’s favor.

As he drifted to sleep that night he swore in his heart to make all who shamed him and his wife to bow before them and beg for mercy!
