Chapter four

At the hospital, Jeff laid on the bed in one of the wards, unconscious.

He was having a dream about Ashley and Trent being together and pushing him off a cliff to die.

As he was falling off the cliff, the voice he heard before passing out came again. Repeating the same word like before.

"System linking to the subject. Linked successfully."

The voice woke Jeff up immediately. He opened his eyes and groaned at the light from the ceiling, shining down on him.

"Geez! This light us too bright!" He complained. Trying to block it with his right hand.

"Guys, he's awake!" Mike alarmed Joe and Phill immediately.

The three roommates were sitting beside him, waiting for the nurse to arrive with the doctor's report.

That's when Mike heard Jeff muttering out while groaning. The trio were glad to see Jeff fine.

"Dude, you're alright. You almost gave us an heartache!" Phill expressed. Grabbing Jeff by the right hand.

Jeff cleared his eyes blink by blink and gazed at his friends. "Guys? What happened? Where I'm I? He asked, noticing the area was different from their room.

"Dude, you're in the hospital. You passed out right there at the college square," Joe explained to Jeff .

"You gave us quiet a scare Jeff . I'm just glad that you're awake," Mike expressed, feeling relieved.

Jeff looked around the room, navigating his eyes left and right to see clearly where he was. He groaned and decided to sit up.

"Let's help you," Phill suggested quickly. Taking hold of Jeff 's arm and supporting him.

Mike was at his left arm side. So he helped Jeff from that area. Joe placed the pillow at Jeff 's back swiftly.

Jeff leaned his back against the pillow and felt relaxed. "Thanks you guys. You three are life savers," he appreciated.

"Anything for our roomie. You're out bro," Phill said, patting Jeff on the shoulder.

Jeff smiled at the three roommates. His smile slowly faded when he recurred that his supposed girlfriend left him for a rich guy.

His mood became all dull. Joe, Mike and Phill noticed this and felt sorry for their friend.

"Hey Jeff . We're sorry for what happened today at the college square. Honestly, we never expected what happened there to take place," Joe apologized, feeling Jeff 's pain.

Mike groaned and said, "If only we had the ability to see this coming. We would have averted this bullshit Ashley and that Trent dude caused."

"I've never liked her from the beginning. Forgive me saying that Jeff , but it's the truth. I just didn't want to hurt your feelings then. But she ended up pulling that stunt," Phill confessed, feeling upset.

Jeff glanced at his friends, as they expressed how upset they were feeling within. He smiled at them and hummed.

"You three are the best roommates. Buddies I can rely on when I'm down. Thank you so much guys," Jeff appreciated again.

Joe, Mike and Phill gazed at him. They smiled at one another and responded to Jeff . Patting him on the head.

"You're our buddy. So that's how it's going to be."

Jeff chuckled. Feeling garnished from all the running up and down, Mike suggested they go get food to eat.

"You know I was the one doing all the work. It's made me damn hungry. Let's go get something to eat," Mike suggested.

"Sure thi g. I'm feeling the same way too. We'll grab something for you too Jeff ," Joe said, following Mike towards the door.

Phill then said, before following the duo who were almost at the door, "You'll be discharged soon. So we'll be back to help pay the fee, okay? We'll be back!"

Phill zoomed out with Joe and Mike. Where he sat, Jeff smiled at his friends when they left.

He sighed and sat up right. Thinking about what happened at the colleges square, and Ashley's confession.

He kept thinking until his mind went to when he passed out. Jeff gasped, recurring the voice he heard.

"System linking? What was that?" Jeff recurred the words the voice made before he fainted.

"What's that from me or did a geek student say something to me before I passed out?" Jeff wondered.

He lifted his knee up to his chest and rested his arms on it. He wondered if he was the one hearing this due to his rage then.

He attempted to touch his head when his hand brushed something thick in his shirt pocket.

"What's this?" He asked rhetorically. Stretching his legs back down and checking his pocket.

He inserted his fingers in his shirt pocket and gasped at what he felt. Quickly, he pulled the thick object out and lifted it up.

It was a card. A golden color card. Jeff was stunned to see such in his pocket. He wondered how it got there in the first place.

"Where did you come from? I don't remember having such a card."

"This card belongs to you Jeff ," the voice that spoke before he passed out, said to him.

Jeff yelled and dropped the card on the bed quickly. He thought the voice came from the card.

"That card just spoke!" He exclaimed astonishingly. Poking the card to see if it will move or speak again.

That's when he heard the voice. But it wasn't from the card, but from him instead.

"I am not speaking from the card but from you Jeff . I'm a system linked into you," the voice explained.

Jeff was stunned to hear this. He wondered if he was going crazy because of what Ashley did to him.

But he got his answer when a screen from his brain, appeared before him. Only his eyes to could see it.

Jeff gasped in amazement. He couldn't believe what he was seeing at the moment.

"System successfully linked to subject, Jeff . Subject now possesses a hundred billion dollars in his account."

"A hundred what? Is this some kind of prank or what?" Jeff questioned the system. Rising out from the bed.

The system responded to his doubtful question, "This is no joke Jeff . The card in which you possess is linked to your billions. You now have access to it."

Jeff gazed at the screen he was seeing. The system showed the money in digits. Jeff was finding it hard to believe.

"This can't be real. I must be dreaming! Is this a trick from Trent? He must have done something to me when he placed his hand on me," Jeff assumed.

He closed his eyes and rubbed his face. Trying to wake up or snap out of the dream.

"Again, this is no joke Jeff . The card in which you possess is linked to all your fortune. You now have access to your wealth. Link successful," the system repeated.

"Link successful? What's this link you're talking about? And what if this is a trick?" Jeff questioned the voice.

Just as he was talking, Jeff heard the sound of a voice being cleared at the door. He looked and saw a nurse, looking at him weirdly.

Jeff smiled, trying to act normal. He waved at the nurse and greeted her. "Good day nurse," He said.

"Hmm. Where are your friends? I thought I'll meet them here. It's time to pay for the fee," the nurse said. Showing off the bill to Jeff .

Jeff sees the amount on the bill and feels worried. He wanted to tell the nurse to come back later, but the system spoke again.

"Make use of your card Jeff . Again, the card in which you possess is linked to your wealth," It reminded him.

Jeff glanced at the golden card on the bed. He feared that it was a trick to humiliate him or something.

But since the system insisted, he decided to give it a try and see if it's truth.
