008. CUT HIM OFF.

He knew there wasn't much that Anna could do by herself since she was still just a receptionist, but Dominic asked her to keep an ear and an eye out for anything she deemed suspicious. He promised to raise her monthly pay if she cooperated with him.

Dominic half expected her to deny his request or at least try to defend her colleagues, but instead she immediately accepted the offer. Leaving Dominic with two thoughts on her, either she suspected Preston and Daniel as well, or she was just one of those staff who was loyal to their boss.

Either way, as long as it worked to his favor, he was okay with it.

Back at Preston's office, Dominic was going through the files of the list of companies that had been trying to form a partnership with his company, and he was a bit pissed to find out that the files were still untouched.

"Preston, these files are still untouched. May I ask why?"

"What?"

"I know you heard me. I want to know your reason for neglecting all these proposals. Is there a reason for your refusal to work with them?"

"Uh well sir, the thing is, a lot of companies want to work with us, so I have to thoroughly go through the file, then look into each company to determine whether they're good for us or not."

"Wow, that's actually very smart. So how many of them have you looked into?"

"Huh?"

"How many of the companies have you looked into?"

"Well sir… I've been really busy with some other things that I haven't… really had the time to… do it."

"So, in other words, you've gone through none of this files."

"I promise I'll get right on it immediately."

"Okay. But before that, there's something we need to discuss first."

"Have I done something wrong sir?"

"I don't know, have you?" The look on Preston's face was screaming guilt but Dominic wasn't looking into that just yet.

"Sir? I don't understand."

"Then it's nothing. That man, Tomas. How long has he been working with this company? What exactly does he do? And how did he manage to slip in so easily?

I'm aware that this place is a new branch, so how did he get in?" He had to know jus how deep his company was with that arrogant man.

"Well sir, you're right, this firm is barely a year old and he has even working with us for a while now. I think it was about a month after we opened?

Apparently his father is a partner to another company owned by your family so he was able to get in quite easily. He isn't a very nice person but he has made some nice proposals. To put it simply, he is a good business partner."

"Oh I see, a good business partner huh?." If Dominic was asked to guess, he would say that Tomas was probably involved with what ever Preston was doing with the accountant, and that was the reason he was speaking so highly of him.

Dominic already knew what he wanted to do with Tomas but he stalled for a while, staring at the file in his hand like he was thinking. "Cut him off." He finally said.

"Sir?"

"I'm sure I spoke loudly and clearly, Preston. Cut him off."

"But he is one of our best clients, he–"

"We'll find better ones. Once you start going through this file, I'm sure you are going to find a company that offers more than what Tomas does. So cut him off completely."

"Completely?"

"You heard me. I don't want my company to have anything to do with that man, the DnD real estates should only deal with top notch individuals, not with the likes of him."

"Very well sir. I'll let the receptionist know so she can prepare a letter."

"That won't be necessary. You said he got in through connections with his father, right?."

"Yes sir."

"Good. Then tell his father that his son is no longer welcomed at the DnD real estates."

"What? His father?"

"Do you need me to get you his information?"

"N- no sir, that isn't the problem. I just feel that we should try a more subtle approach."

"Preston, on other things, I will take your advice to heart but on this issue? I have already made upy mind. So now it is left to you to decide if you want to keep your job, or your friendship with Tomas." Normally, it was very wrong of Dominic to threaten his staff into doing something for him, but for a man like Preston, he would need to be strict.

"What should I say?"

"Due to his outrageous behavior at our workplace, Mr Tomas– what ever his last name is– is hereby banned from setting foot on the premises ever again. And from here on, the DnD real estates will cease all of its current and future projects with Tomas and his company.

Thank you and have a nice day.

There."

"Sir, are you sure that is what you want me to write?"

"Is there a problem with it? Do you owe Tomas any money?"

"No sir." He shook his head.

"Does he owe us any money?"

"Not at all sir."

"Then what is the problem?"

"What if he gets angry?"

"That's very normal. If I took your job from you, wouldn't you be angry?"

"I… would be."

"Exactly. But even though you are angry, there won't be anything you can do about it. So that's the same thig with his case. He will get angry, then he'll probably throw a tantrum like a child. His father will be disappointed in him, and he might want revenge or whatever, but he won't be able to do anything. So do what I asked."

"Y- yes sir."

Once Maria and her grandmother hears that he had lost his partnership with DnD, they were probably going to be disappointed, all the more reasons Dominic had to do it.

Now he wasn't just a useless live- in -son -in -law anymore. It was time for him to take stand for himself.

"What time exactly do you close from work?"

From the tone of her voice, Dominic could tell that she was worried about him. "I'm sorry, I know I'm a bit late, I had to sort some files out and I didn't want to leave them till tomorrow."

"Still, you should be home earlier. You even missed donner."

"Yeah I know, I'm sorry. It won't happen again."

"Okay. I was able to sneak in some food, or have you eaten?"

"No, I haven't. Thank you." Gram Fallon had made it a rule that anyone who wasn't present at the dinner table must be denied food until the next meal. In his case, that was breakfast and he just might have to miss that also. "Oh Ciara, do you have any plans for tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow? I don't think so. Why?"

"I was able to fix up an appointment for you to meet with our CEO tomorrow."

"What?" She suddenly perked up.

"Yeah. When I told him about you, he said he would meet with you in person and the outcome of your meeting would help him decide on whether he would work with your family's company or not."

"Oh thank you so much." For the first time in forever, Ciara threw her arms around him, squeezing him in a hug. Dominic wasn't sure if he had ever hugged her before. His hands slowly moved up and held her back.

"You're welcome." He smiled, for the first time, he was able to enjoy the warm embrace of his wife.

Almost as if she remembered that she wasn't supposed to like him, she quickly let go and moved away from him, refusing to look at him. "Uh, I should go. I need to prepare for the meeting."

"Right, of course. The agreed time is nine AM."

"Okay."

Dominic smiled to himself as he watched her leave the room, maybe he did have a chance at winning her love after all.
