"Ah, I can handle this shit. I guess it’s time to go."
Bryce left the building in his clothes while carrying the necklace. But there was something he didn't realise. A black car was suddenly seen entering and speeding away.
Bruck!
Bryce staggers and falls backwards. The small incident didn't seriously injure him, but it was enough to dislocate his bones.
Slowly, the car lights faded, as the driver turned off the engine. The car doors opened up automatically, and two people stepped out of there.
"Mum, Mate, what are you here for?" Bryce slowly got up and greeted them as if the incident had not happened.
A fashionably dressed man and woman with an arrogant and cruel gaze and no guilt at all walked over. Bryce recognised the woman as Lexy Rivera, his mother-in-law, while the man was Veronica's brother Levi Riviera.
Slap!
"Stop pretending to be nice to me," sneered Lexy with a disgusted look.
"Mum, why did you slap me?" asked Bryce in confusion.
Instead of getting an answer, Lexy threw out her hand and gave another slap.
"Are you pretending to be stupid?" the woman scolded.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Mum," Bryce responded, then tried to shield his face as Lexy was seen raising her hand.
"Huh, you are a disgusting man. My hands aren't even willing to throw one more slap. Don't call me 'Mum' because I'm not your mum," Lexy said angrily.
"A rubbish man like you should have been removed a long time ago. You got us into trouble with your actions earlier in Veronica's office," said Levi, who had been silent.
The man immediately took out his phone and showed a video.
"You'll die if this footage gets leaked out," Levi continued with a clenched fist that made Bryce step back.
Lexy added, "My son, don't get your hands dirty by touching that rubbish son-in-law. We have to play it gracefully, like how we got the tape and got rid of an employee who would destroy Veronica's reputation."
Bryce did not understand why his mother-in-law was so cruel to him. As a husband, Bryce had given everything he had to help Veronica, but his every struggle was meaningless in the eyes of the Carter family.
Lexy was the most opposed to the marriage between Bryce and Veronica. She felt that her daughter should not be with a man with an unclear background, even if, looking at her family status, the two were impossible to be together.
Bryce knew that ever since he married Veronica, his mother-in-law would always try to find fault with him and bring up the divorce every chance she got. Lexy never seemed satisfied with what Bryce was doing.
"If I knew it would end like this, I should have kicked you out of the Carter family property. Bryce, you're just a nuisance to us all. I don't understand how Veronica could choose and keep you as a husband all these years," Lexy said disgustingly.
"Mum, you're right. This rubbish is a disgrace to us," Levi said to support his mum.
"You guys are completely out of line. If you want to talk about disgrace, I think we all know about Veronica's brother's reality," Bryce responded, not accepting the insult.
Smash!
Levi, whose blood was boiling, threw a punch at Bryce. The man's lips appeared to be dripping blood as a result of being hit.
Some visitors who had seen the action could only shake their heads. Some neighbours know how bad a family's fate is when they have a useless son-in-law. None of the people there sympathised with Bryce's condition; they all agreed more with what the Carter family was doing.
"This has gone too far," Bryce protested.
"I've tried my best to be a responsible husband. Have you forgotten I'm the reason behind Veronica's success?" he continued.
"Don't speak lies. Veronica is successful because of her efforts. You should realise that you never belonged together. I'm glad my persuasion finally worked, and Veronica was willing to divorce you even though she didn't seem to agree," Lexy said proudly.
"Mum, why are you so cruel? I've given..." Just as Bryce was about to reply, his sentence was cut short by her. "Don't try to name one good deed you've done before me. Instead of continuing to remember that which is your responsibility, you should think about what you haven't given as a husband."
Bryce began to understand things more clearly. He knew that his mother-in-law was a materialist, but he had never thought that Lexy was completely obsessed.
"Since you are now divorced, I hope you will realise that you must leave my daughter's property," Veronica said.
One thing that she missed was that Bryce was already the legal owner of the building. Veronica had titled the property in his name, but since Bryce had no intention of taking the place, he did not say anything.
"Mum, you can't let this rubbish man get away that easily," Levi said as he tried to intercept Bryce's steps, who wanted to leave. Levi noticed Bryce's hand, which kept going into his pocket.
"Everything that Bryce is wearing must have been a gift from Veronica. I think that this man should not take anything from inside."
Lexy seemed to agree with his son's words. "Then strip him out of something that didn't belong to him."
Bryce, already fed up with the two people before him, decided to leave immediately and not waste any more time.
"Stop it. You guys don't need to be this low to me. I'm not a thief. So I'm not carrying anything that doesn't belong to me."
The two did not accept the presumptuous attitude shown by Bryce, but just as they were about to speak, the sound of a ringtone was heard from his pocket. The man then ignored Levi and Lexy.
“A private call? Who is this?” A call with an unknown number was much more interesting to his attention.
Bryce immediately picked up the call without waiting any longer. The voice heard from the unknown call was the sweet voice of a woman."Hello, am I talking to Mr Bryce Milano?"Bryce was now curious. Many questions crossed his head. He didn't feel like he recognised the woman's voice, but strangely, she even knew Bryce's full name."Yes, I am Bryce. But is it okay to know who I'm talking to now?"Bryce was seen turning around and stepping away while talking on the phone. It made Levi and Lexy curious as to who the man was calling."I'm Tamara. I know you have a lot of questions right now, but trust me, I can answer anything that crosses your mind right now. Meet and come to me, then you will know everything. But before that, I also need your help. Think of it as an equal exchange."As Bryce heard the sentence from the woman, he became even curious."Well, you can assume that I agree to your offer. But what can I do? At least tell me what things you want from me," Bryce responded to fe
"You bastard! How dare you throw your despicable hand in my face," Levi replied angrily.Lexy, who saw her son get hit, felt upset. The woman said, "Bryce, how dare you. You dare to hit my son. You will get what you deserve."Levi and Lexy were honestly very surprised by Bryce's actions. They knew that even if Bryce were bullied, the man would never retaliate with violence."Mum, I'm sorry, but I can't wait any longer. Rubbish men like Bryce will go downhill if left unchecked. I'm going to retaliate directly with my hand to let men like him know where they stand," Levi said with a hateful look.Bryce was still silent there, the man staring at the two with a contemptuous look. He even did not reply to a single word of the words thrown at him.The man calmly watched as Levi clenched his fists and stepped forward, trying to attack him. Although Levi's movements looked quite skilful for an amateur, in a split second, Bryce seemed to be able to see the pattern the man would take so that he
The moment they saw her coming, people were stunned. The menacing look in her eyes made the atmosphere tense.Levi and Lexy also felt confused by the woman's figure as she seemed unfamiliar yet familiar at the same time. Bryce looked at the woman's appearance from bottom to top, and he smiled. Although he did not recognise the woman before him, her character was so strong that it made the security guards helpless."Hi, miss..." Bryce returned the woman's greeting as if they were already acquainted."I'm Tamara Reed, the person who called you earlier," the woman said gracefully.Levi and Lexy, who saw the woman's figure, were amazed at her beauty, but at the same time, they were annoyed that another intruder was blocking their plans."Oh. I see. Nice to meet you. What's so urgent that you came to see me here? Earlier you said we would meet somewhere. I've already received the location's address, but it looks like you're the one who approached me. I wonder how you could find my location
When Bryce heard that, he was shocked."Are you serious? Don't try to fool me. If this is an attempted scam, I'll make sure it doesn't end well for you," Bryce said incredulously.Tamara sighed. The woman looked a little flustered but tried to appear confident."Sir, I am not lying. Everything I said just now has a solid foundation. If you have any doubts, come with me. My car is parked across the street. I can prove my words."Feeling he had no other options, Bryce finally decided to follow Tamara. He still showed a cautious attitude."Sir, what are you waiting for standing there? Let's get in the car," Tamara assured Bryce. He looked around, making sure there were no other threats that might harm him in the car.A relieved Bryce said, "So what proof are you going to show me?"Tamara picked up a box from the back seat and gave it to the man beside her."What is this?" asked Bryce in confusion."The answer you seek," Tamara replied.Bryce immediately opened the box, and he was confuse
Soon, the car was on its way to one of the top designer boutiques in town. Tamara drove the car with great excitement, and Bryce could see the smile on the beautiful woman's face."Sir, we've arrived. Let's get off!" said a delighted Tamara.A slightly confused Bryce responded, "Tamara, why are we stopping here? I thought you would take me straight to the Milano residence."Tamara was about to laugh when she heard that innocent sentence, but she quickly controlled herself."Sir, apologies if I'm presumptuous, but you might be able to see your appearance," she said."What's wrong with my appearance? I'm wearing normal clothes," Bryce said innocently."Well, that's the right analysis. That's precisely the problem. You look too ordinary. People won't think you're special looking like this. I'm sure they won't believe a word you say or care what you have to say," Tamara explains.Bryce could only stare at that. He did not understand some of the rich people's game rules."The clothes you'r
As the store guards dragged Bryce out of there, he tried to give some explanations so that the manager would not involve the police."Maam, I am one of the customers at your shop. Why am I being discriminated against and treated like this?"The manager was stunned and then looked Bryce up and down."Liar! That's not possible. That guy can't possibly afford to buy clothes at this particular designer store," the woman who created the commotion reappeared there."My lover's words must be true. I'm pretty sure this man sneaked in to do something bad," the man who was the woman's partner chimed in.The Manager felt that what they were saying was very true."Judging by his appearance, there's no way this guy can afford any of our collection," she mused. As the Manager, she immediately took a mobile phone from her pocket to make a call, but Bryce intercepted it immediately."I'm sorry if my actions were presumptuous. But you should listen to me too. I am indeed a new customer here. If you do
After sorting things out at the designer store, Bryce and Tamara left. Both felt visibly satisfied and happy."If I'd known they would patronise you like that, I would have acted earlier. I thought you were still having fun trying on clothes in that special room. I should have felt suspicious because there was so much time wasted," Tamara says, lamenting Bryce's situation."Tamara, it's okay. You don't have to feel upset or guilty. I think this is a way for me to learn about real life," he responded casually."Very well. But it's still a good thing I saw the staff serving you earlier and was able to react immediately. Otherwise, it might not have ended well for you," she said."Guess I'm lucky to have someone as trustworthy and reliable as you," Bryce said proudly.Tamara smiles briefly at the sentence. The two are now back in the car with some shopping bags.Tring!A call interrupted her before she could switch on the car's engine.Tamara looked at Bryce and said, "Let me take this c
"Miss, I trust him. I will take full responsibility if anything happens to my husband," Tamara said firmly.Leah, as a nurse, was not pleased. "Maam, please don't block my way. You can't do this as you please. There are procedures and rules in this hospital. I have to stop that man before your husband's condition cannot be saved.""What a funny phrase! You guys go overboard when prescribing medicine for patients, then have the nerve to say that this hospital is the best in town?" Bryce sneered."What you said is slander!" Leah looked shaken.Indeed, David's treating doctor, Nolan Houston, over-prescribed medication for him. Leah found out, and Nolan gave her money to keep her quiet. She wondered, "Does this man already know about it? In that case, I should stop the treatment!"Leah believed that Bryce had no medical skills. She was worried that Bryce would accidentally kill David and the police would get involved in the matter. If the police investigate and find the cause of death, No
