Chapter 9: Defence Mode

As the store guards dragged Bryce out of there, he tried to give some explanations so that the manager would not involve the police.

"Maam, I am one of the customers at your shop. Why am I being discriminated against and treated like this?"

The manager was stunned and then looked Bryce up and down.

"Liar! That's not possible. That guy can't possibly afford to buy clothes at this particular designer store," the woman who created the commotion reappeared there.

"My lover's words must be true. I'm pretty sure this man sneaked in to do something bad," the man who was the woman's partner chimed in.

The Manager felt that what they were saying was very true.

"Judging by his appearance, there's no way this guy can afford any of our collection," she mused.

As the Manager, she immediately took a mobile phone from her pocket to make a call, but Bryce intercepted it immediately.

"I'm sorry if my actions were presumptuous. But you should listen to me too. I am indeed a new customer here. If you don't believe me, please ask one of your staff. That green-eyed man was helping me earlier. My stuff should be at the counter by now."

The manager then hesitated. She felt that if the man in front of her could describe the staff clearly, then there was a possibility that his words were true.

Amidst the agitation, a female customer said, "If you can't make a good policy, then I will stop being a regular customer here and tell my circle not to shop here anymore."

"Well, that's true. You guys ruined our mood by not being able to deal with rubbish like him properly," her lover offered support.

Bryce saw the couple's persistence and was quite annoyed.

"Why do they want to insult me so much? Have I ever done anything wrong to these two?" he mused.

The manager thoughtfully said, "Sir, Miss, I apologise for the inconvenience you feel. But how can you be sure this man is doing something wrong in our shop?"

The man immediately responded, "Well, because we know him. This man is the scum of the Carter family. His existence has already harmed many people."

His girlfriend then gave a code for the man's outburst. But since everything had already been said, she said, "It's true. We know this guy is the troublemaker. He messed up all of our New Year's events."

As Bryce listened to them, something clicked in his head.

"Ah, I now remember who they are. Both are relatives of the Carter family," he mused.

Because of the testimonies of the two customers, the manager eventually decided to trust them more than Bryce.

"Sasha, Hamilton, did the Carter family tell you to do this to me?" Bryce said more firmly than ever.

"Bryce, be careful when you say our names. You will soon feel the consequences."

Both of them looked at him with emotion. They felt proud to humiliate Bryce in front of everyone.

"What are you waiting for? Call the police now," Sasha emphasised.

The distressed manager was forced to follow the wishes of his two customers. But as he waited for the call to connect, another stern, dominating voice came in.

"What's going on here?" Tamara and a male staff member were seen leaving the store.

"Mrs Reed," said the Manager, bowing her head respectfully.

"I apologise if-" her words were cut off as Tamara raised her hands.

"Cut the bull craps. Why are you holding back my special guest?"

Sasha and Hamilton were shocked to see that the more influential of the two could easily control the crowd.

"M-mrs Reed, is this man with you?" the manager asked for confirmation.

Tamara came downstairs with the sound of loud high heels. She answered, "Yes. I was looking for him in there. But it turns out that you guys are treating him rudely."

The manager seemed genuinely frightened by Tamara's deadly stare and intimidating demeanour.

"Mrs Reed, I... I..."

Tamara approached and said, "Ma'am, let's make things easy. Get these two out of here right now, or I'll take your behaviour and the shop to the police. You're on the phone, aren't you?"

Sasha, hearing this, said, "Who the fuck are you? Can you organise us that easily?"

Bryce, who had been silent and observing, now said, "Sasha, Hamilton, you should just apologise and let's end things on good terms."

Hamilton, who was listening, said, "Are you crazy? We're the ones apologising? That's not possible."

"Well, if you don't want to, we don't need to see your faces here. Maam, order your guards to send them away right now," Tamara said as she sat beside Bryce.

The Manager made an immediate decision as he switched off the call on his mobile phone. The guards quickly dragged Sarah and Hamilton away from them. The crowd was amazed at what a man like Bryce was capable of.

Sasha and Hamilton, who were dragged away, were not pleased.

"Bryce, you don't behave like this to us! You useless son-in-law!"

"Bryce, trust that we will repay you!"

While the man they screamed at could only smile at how everything changed so easily.

The manager came over, kowtowing while humbling himself. He said, "I apologise for my and the guards' behaviour just now. I hope you won't take our behaviour to heart. We are sorry for the incident that just took place."

Bryce looked at the woman as if she was begging for mercy for her life. He murmured, "So this is what it's like to be an influential person, huh."
