AT CROSSROADS

Angel’s sudden appearance was a welcome distraction, and Ashton found himself relaxing a bit. He didn’t want her to sense the toxic tension in the room, so he made an effort to be cheerful.

As they all sat down, Hilary poured tea for everyone, and the conversation shifted to lighter topics. Ashton tried to focus on the small talk, but his mind kept drifting back to the ashwagandha plant and to the unanswered questions that had brought him here in the first place.

After a while, Angel excused herself, saying she had some studying to do. Ashton watched her go, he felt instant guilt and regret that he couldn’t fully enjoy her company and it was all because of Myles. But his thoughts were too preoccupied.

Once Angel was gone, the atmosphere in the room grew more tense. Myles, sensed an opportunity, turned to Ashton with a sly grin.
