Chapter 13.

Faith swallowed hard with her eyes blinking, her mind riddling with different thoughts,

‘Had Michael called her?’, ‘Why was she calling?’ ‘Didn't she know she was currently in the meeting’.

Faith was extremely pale and she gulped at intervals, Ethan caught sight of her expression and raised his brow at her, Faith subtly shook her head, and whispered,

“Please excuse me, I have to take this call"

She immediately stood up to pick up the call, moved to a corner of the office, and was immediately greeted by her grandmother’s loud voice when she clicked the green button,

“What the hell do you think you're doing, you insolent child?! How dare you double-cross Michael?”

Mrs Rita didn't let Faith get any word in as she kept condescendingly berating her, Faith's eyes were brimming with tears. Meanwhile, Ethan could hear the harshness of her voice as it was a little loud, his brows furrowed, and he thought it was a good thing to inform Jason of the situation. He quietly tapped away on his phone and sent a message to Jason,

Jason promptly replied and told him to keep him abreast of the situation and also find a way to help Faith end the call so they could finalize the meeting.

What Faith didn't realize was that Jason was in the building, in his office, and was awaiting feedback from Ethan. He planned on showing up toward the end of the meeting in the guise of supporting her on her big day,

Having Jason's permission, Ethan cleared his throat and spoke loudly, making sure his voice could be heard at the other end,

“Ms Faith, we need to wrap up here. I have another meeting to attend to"

Faith quickly nodded and made to speak, but her grandmother who had heard the words hissed through the phone and informed her,

"You better make sure that deal doesn't fall through, if it does, forget about being a Reynolds. I'll make sure your grandfather alienates you from this family, if he doesn't, best believe I'll make it happen. We're not done with this conversation!”

She thundered and immediately cut the call, not letting Faith get any word in. Faith subtly wiped at the tears in the corners of her eyes, and heaved a deep breath, trying to bring color back to her pale face and calm herself down,

Smiling, she turned to face Ethan,

“I'm sorry about that Sir, where were we?" she simply asked with a smile that was almost wobbling,

Ethan didn't say anything about what had happened, he nodded and slid a binder toward her with a smile on his face,

Faith gulped, her hands suddenly going clammy as she picked it up, opening and looking it through, her jaw dropped and her eyes widened, she immediately snapped her head to gape at Ethan and promptly looked down at the papers,

Therein was the contract, letting Reynoldz Holdingz supply to Greenlife Group and the amount they were proposing was a lot higher than what she had proposed in her application. Once again, she lifted her head to stare at a smiling Ethan,

“S-sir, this is more than we proposed S-sir"

Ethan nodded with the smile still on his face,

“I'm very well aware. I was inclined to propose that amount so you can do thorough and excellent work. Like I said, you have someone who believes in you, and he has put in a good word for you"

Faith's eyebrows creased as she glanced, she wondered who it was. She knew Ryan found himself in love with her, but she had never fully reciprocated that feeling. She couldn't decipher how he had gotten this huge deal, softly clearing her throat as she continued gazing at Ethan,

“I'm sorry Sir, I'm truly grateful, but I'm wondering what Ryan must have said to you that would make you drawn to Reynoldz Holdingz this way"

This time around, it was Ethan's turn to crease his brow, before he echoed,

“Ryan?"

Faith felt he was being evasive and smiled before nodding,

“Yes Mr Ethan, Ryan Cape. He was the one who made this appointment and approval possible, isn't it?”

Ethan promptly shook his head with a straight face, he leaned against his seat and with unblinking eyes gazed at Faith,

“You most certainly have it wrong Ms Faith. Although I'm not allowed or inclined to disclose to you who this person is, I can categorically tell you for certain that it certainly isn't this Ryan Cape or whatever you call him. I do not even know anyone with such a name"

Ethan replied emphatically, his voice leaving no room for uncertainty or debate. Faith was at a loss for words, and her brows furrowed further, she and everyone else had assumed it was Ryan who had made it possible, yet Mr Ethan was categorically telling her that he wasn't the one,

Sighing deeply, she nodded and rose to her feet, Ethan doing the same,

For a split moment, her brain entertained the thought that it could be Jason who arranged the meeting as he had been the one who persuaded her to take up the challenge, but just as quick as the thought came, she instantly dismissed it.

It wasn't possible, Jason didn't remotely look like anyone who could make this happen. It further left her baffled with who was the angel that had helped her, who had been the wind beneath her wings.

“Thank you Mr Ethan for this opportunity, I sure won't let you down"

Ethan nodded in return, his chest puffed out,

"I do not doubt that Ms Faith”

Faith's heart warmed at the faith and assurance he had in her, even her grandmother didn't have faith in her, yet two strangers were willing and able to take a chance on her. She nodded and smiled before she walked out the door.

As soon as she left his office, Ethan promptly sent a message to Jason,

‘It's done. She's on her way out now.’

Jason's replied almost immediately,

‘Got it. Thanks’

Jason, in his location, smiled and set out to meet with his fiancé.

Faith had a spring in her step as she made her way to the exit of the building. Nothing could dim the smile on her face, or show she thought until she got to the reception and found Michael still waiting and scowling at not just her, but someone at her back.
