Fredrick watched Lucas from head to toe. He was wondering if Lilly had gotten herself a boyfriend in a short time. From the years he had known Lilly, she had been a strong woman to reckon with. In the early stage of her teenage years, she dressed in masculine attire. Everyone regarded her as a tomboy. But as she grew older, her mother changed her mindset. She wanted her to dress like a lady to attract responsible suitors.

Lilly never accepted any man who had approached her, even if they were rich. She never gave any of them any chances. Some regarded her as being proud, but few people who were closer to her knew she was humble. She loves a carefree life, and she isn't ready to sacrifice her freedom to be under any man.

Fredrick had tried all his possible means to date Lilly but all his efforts proved abortive. Being a family friend, he sent both his parents to Lilly's parents to convince their daughter, but Lilly's parents responded that they couldn't choose for their daughter. All they wanted was to see their daughter Happy, and they could not compromise her happiness for anything.

Fredrick looked at Lucas dejectedly, he knew he was handsome and fit, but what was he doing in Rowland's restaurant with his hair wet?

" The guy is good-looking and handsome. He has the physical appearance to attract any lady, but I'm as handsome as he is. What is he doing here with Lilly? He doesn't look rich and I don't think Lilly would stoop so low to date a poor man. Let me take my mind away from bad thoughts, he cannot be her boyfriend", Frederick thought. 

He looked up to Lucas and asked him about his mission in Rowland's restaurant.

" Who are you? and what are you doing here?" He asked Lucas.

Lucas looked confused because he didn't understand the reason why Frederick was questioning him, so he looked at Lilly for help.

When Frederick saw that Lucas refused to answer him, he faced Lilly to ask the same question.

" Who is he? And what is he doing here?" He asked, facing Lilly.

" And how is that any of your business? What are you doing now? My Dad? Am I accountable to you now?", Lilly replied angrily.

" No no no, I'm not trying to question you in that manner", Frederick stuttered.

" It's just that I have not met him, nor seen you with any man before. You can just do a little introduction, you know?" He said, trying to calm an angry Lilly.

" Wow!" Lilly exclaimed, pretending to be surprised. The sarcasm could be detected in her voice. 

" I can see you have been monitoring the number of men I moved with. I thought you were a CEO, don't you have any work to keep yourself busy with?. And for the introduction you requested, It's not necessary. I don't think you would be having any business with him in the future. And stop behaving as my close pal, because we are not" Lilly replied.

" I haven't been monitoring you but I know you since we were toddlers. Also, being family friends could be regarded as being close, don't you think? " Frederick replied.

As Lilly was trying for a comeback, her phone rang;

" Excuse me, I need to pick up this call", she said, then she left.

Fredrick arrogantly faced Lucas. He placed his hands in his pocket, and broad his shoulders, trying to stand gallant to intimidate Lucas but Lucas did not waver. He wasn't scared of anybody anymore. He was ready to attack anyone that belittled or harassed him. He didn't give a damn about anybody.

" Young man, who are you and why are you here" Fredrick asked once again

" I owe you no explanation. Go and ask for my details from Lilly and stop parading yourself as someone important, because you are not. Drop your shoulders to feel comfortable, you don't look intimidating at all. You look like a mannequin used to display clothes in a shopping mall, man", Lucas replied mockingly.

" I see you don't fear me, but let me warn you. I want you to stay away from Lilly. She can't have anything with you, so stop dreaming. You and Lilly are of different levels. Lilly is mine and mine alone" Fredrick warned.

" I don't think you have the right to dictate who she should associate or be with. It's obvious she doesn't want to waste a minute conversing with you. You can't force a woman to love you, you will end up being dumped. That's my little advice for you." Lucas responded calmly.

" Just leave her alone. I don't need your stupid advice. I know how to tame a woman, so don't let me see you as a competition. You don't have what it takes to compete with me" Frederick said.

" You think money can solve every problem? When you know you can tame her, why hasn't she accepted you before now? Why are you scared of me being your competition when you have the money? I will be the one to advise you to stay away from me. Then don't try anything stupid that will hurt Lilly, else you won't like the consequences", Lucas warned.

" Really? Are you threatening me now?" Fredrick asked

" That's not a threat my guy, it's a warning you should take seriously", Lucas said, then he found somewhere to sit waiting for Lilly.

Frederick held his fist tight, he was angry. He thought Lucas would be someone he could intimidate, but the guy was a tough person to compete with.

He was lost in thought for some minutes, then he concluded he had to come up with a plan. He wasn't someone to act rashly, he always calculated his attack. He usually made findings on his enemy before attacking them. He had to know the kind of person Lucas was before he planned his attack. 

He might be a Playboy but he had developed feelings for Lilly a long time ago. He had loved her since they were young. He tried every approach for Lilly to notice him but she didn't, so he resulted in "the Playboy way". He thought Lilly would be jealous if she saw him with another lady, but it seemed Lilly didn't care about that. He had to stop his Playboy ways and make Lilly trust him. He didn't want to believe he came late when he saw Lucas with her, so he attacked him. He had to fight for what was meant for him, he had to fight for his love. When he waited for Lilly a little and she didn't seem to be back anytime soon, he left.

A few minutes later, Lilly rushed in to see Lucas dozing on the chair. It was her voice that woke him up.

" I'm very sorry for keeping you waiting, Lucas. I'm sorry, please. I will ask someone to bring our food now" Lilly apologized immediately after she came in.

Lucas sat comfortably and faced her, " it's okay. I can see you are a busy person. But I don't see why you keep saying sorry all the time. My ear drum could not recall the number of sorrys you have said today" Lucas said jokingly.

Lilly smiled," I needed to apologize because you have passed through a lot because of me."

Lilly turned around, " One of you should bring two plates of food for my guest and me, the standard please", Lilly said to the waiters in the restaurant.

Lilly was known to be humble to people around her, especially her employees. And this character made everyone love her. She didn't treat anyone badly, nor did she look down on anyone.

Lucas was surprised to see a rich person who was as humble as Lilly. He didn't know there could be a responsible young lady anymore. He had thought every woman would be like Elena. His gaze did not leave Lilly, so she started checking her whole body for any fault.

" Is there something wrong with my look or the way I dress?",  Lilly asked

" No Lilly, you are perfect" Lucas replied

" Then why are you looking at me like that?", She asked again

" Well, I just like the kind of person you are. I like your character generally. You weren't ashamed to be seen with me, despite knowing I'm a poor person. You even stood up for me when I was humiliated. Thank you very much, I appreciate" Lucas showed appreciation.

" It seems you don't know how grateful I am to you. I would have been dead by now if you didn't come to my rescue last night. I am very grateful for the help you rendered to me, Lucas. I owe you my life" she said smiling. 

" It's not an issue. What I did was a reflex action. I didn't even think about the danger when I jumped in to save you. I'm happy we are both okay", Lucas said.

They both laughed over it and at the same time, the waiter brought their food. Lilly watched Lucas keenly as he was eating. She could detect he was hungry the way he devoured his food, and she was grateful she fed him.

" Now that we have eaten, can I ask you some questions?"Lilly asked, studying Lucas' body language.

" Ask straight away", Lucas said

"And you promise to tell me the truth? She said. 

" Nothing but the truth, I crossed my heart" Lucas replied, demonstrating with his hands.

" Who are you? I saw you had an experience with the woman we met earlier, and I saw how much she hated you. Who is she and why did she hate you so much? Lilly asked the questions that had been bothering her mind.

" To start with, I'm an orphan. I grew up in an orphanage. My nanny said my father came once when I was young but I never met him, although I have his picture with me. That woman you saw earlier was the woman I got married to, but as you can see, she is now my ex. As for why she hated me, I had no idea. All I ever did to offend her and her mom was being poor, nothing else".

" Wow, that's pathetic. No one chose to be poor. We are just lucky to be born into a rich family. Don't worry too much, she is out of your life now. At least to start afresh and be the man that you are", Lilly encouraged.

" Initially I was sad because of how I was thrown out of the house despite my loyalty towards them, but I'm happy now because a great burden has been lifted off me. She is just a selfish woman. Life goes on", Lucas said

Lilly smiled, as she dragged Lucas out of the restaurant, " That's the spirit guy, you have to move on. Now let's get you some new clothes to match your good look. You are now my newfound friend. After the shopping, let's see what life has in stock for you". Then they both left for Lilly's car.
