The Dinner

" Hi Dad, I'm sorry I couldn't pick up your calls. I was busy. Hope there is no problem", Lilly was answering her phone calls while driving with Lucas by her side.

" I'm fine princess, I heard about what happened to you and I was really worried. I have warned you to be careful sweetheart", the voice of Justin Rowland, Lilly's father could be heard at the receiver end of the phone.

" Don't worry yourself, Dad, everything has been settled. And I'm fine, thank you for asking", Lilly calmed her father.

" Silly girl, thread with caution and stop making your old man worried. You know you are the only child we have, be careful okay?" He cautioned his daughter

" I'm very sorry Dad, I will be more careful from now on", Lilly replied, feeling remorse for getting her dad worried.

" Anyways, I have started my investigation on the source of your attack. Gabriel told me some guy saved you, I need to meet the guy. Can you bring him over for dinner? I need to appreciate him", Justin asked his daughter.

The phone was on loudspeaker and Lucas could hear the conversation between father and daughter. He was trying to signal to Lilly that he didn't want to attend, but she didn't mind him.

Lilly looked at Lucas and smiled, " Yes Dad, I will surely bring him over for dinner. We will talk later dad, I have to go now. Love you, Dad"

" Love you too cupcake", Justin said before hanging up on his daughter.

" What's wrong Lucas? Don't you want to meet my dad?" Lilly asked Lucas

" I'm scared to meet someone as important as your dad. Who am I to stand before him, not to talk of having dinner with him" Lucas replied.

" My Dad is an easy-going person. He doesn't attack anyone except when you offend him. Moreover, he treats everyone equally. So be rest assured that you don't have any problem with him", Lilly tried to convince Lucas.

" Don't try to refuse me, because I won't take " no" for an answer", she said

" Okay, as your lordship pleases ma'am" Lucas replied and bowed jokingly.

They both laughed and they focused on their journey. Lucas didn't know the location of the shopping mall, so he kept mute. A few minutes later, Lilly drove into a large shopping mall.

Lucas looked stunned when he saw how beautiful and gigantic the place looked. He had never been to a place like that before. He waited for Lilly before entering the place because he didn't want history to repeat itself.

" Come on, let's go in", Lilly said as she held his arm. She was behaving as if Lucas would run away from her.

Immediately they entered, and the receptionist welcomed them. All the workers knew Lilly, so they had to respect her. Lilly nodded in response and they moved to the masculine side of the mall.

Lilly was picking everything at sight, ranging from casual wear to suit and other male attires that enticed her. She packed everything into a carriage and asked Lucas to enter the inner room to try them on. She was practically asking him to model the clothes for him.

Lucas was dumbfounded, he looked baffled at the plenty of clothes in the carriage. He wanted to say something, but one look at Lilly made him shut his mouth. The lady was not ready for any of his complaints.

Lucas would wear the clothes, then he would show himself to Lilly. She would take a picture of the ones she liked and ask his own opinion also. The workers in the mall were gushing over him. They all admired his looks but none could utter a word.

Lilly took him into the hair session, and spa, and within a few hours, Lucas was transformed into a gorgeous-looking man. He couldn't believe it when he viewed himself in the mirror. Having money is good.

When Lilly checked her time, it was already time for dinner. They packed everything they bought into Lilly's car and they headed for Rowland's mansion.

At Rowland's Mansion, a beautiful woman could be seen directing the maids on how to arrange everything in order. She had been informed of the dinner planned by Mr Rowland. She was beaming happily, as she could not wait to meet her daughter's savior. If not because of the good Samaritan, she would have been childless by now. Then her enemies would mock her. At the onset of their marriage, when she was unable to bear any child, her husband's family had planned to send her out of her husband's house.

She didn't come from a rich family, so it was easier for them to plan their attack. But she was able to conquer them all, because of the strong love her husband had for her.

After she gave birth to her damsel, she had complications, so she could not bear any child anymore. She was deeply sad, but she was consoled by her husband; as long as he was alive, he would do anything to protect his wife and daughter.

Even though she was able to produce a child, a heiress to Rowland's corporation, the family tried to frustrate her, giving the excuse that they wanted an heir. She was able to stand strong against all their malicious trials, and she consoled herself with her daughter's strong health and happiness. Her daughter excelled in every one of her endeavors, so why wouldn't she be happy?

She was trying to appreciate the man by making sure the dinner went perfectly. She was giving orders here and there, but she wasn't harsh with them.

"Miss Fisher, can you please monitor those maids in the kitchen? Our guest will soon arrive", she told the head maids and the nanny to her precious daughter.

" Don't worry Mrs Rowland, everything is ready. It's just for them to clean up the mess in the kitchen. I just need you to go in there, and freshen up. You don't want your guests to see you dress like this right? And don't forget your lovely husband is on his way also", Miss Fisher replied, holding Lilliana, Lilly's mother by her shoulders and directing her towards her bedroom.

They had always behaved like that. There was no master-employee relationship between them, rather the relationship of best friends. Lilliana had always held her Chief maid in high regard and they have been best of friends since she got married into the Rowland family. Miss Fisher on the other hand had been loyal to the family, she would sacrifice everything to see happiness on Lilliana's face.

Lilliana obeyed her Chief maid, then she claimed the staircase to her bedroom. Immediately she left, her husband came in, all dressed up.

The hooting of a car was heard outside the mansion. Justin knew his daughter and her guest had arrived. He stood on his feet because he was eager to meet his daughter. He had traveled for a business meeting and he had already missed his family.

" Hi Dad, I'm so happy to see you hale and healthy", Lilly ran to embrace her dad.

" The feeling is mutual, baby. I have missed you a lot", Justin said as he hugged his daughter.

After he detached himself from his daughter, he looked behind her to check the gentle handsome-looking man standing with his head down. He decided to ask who the guy was from his daughter.

" Who might this be darling?"He asked his daughter.

" Dad, this is Lucas. The man you asked me to bring home", Lilly answered.

" Oh, this is the man that saved you. Gentleman, can you please raise your head for me to recognize my daughter's savior?"He said, looking at Lucas.

" Good day sir, My name is Lucas Armstrong", Lucas introduced himself, raising his head.

To say Justin was shocked was an understatement, he got confused with both his name and his looks.

" Armstrong? That's strange. I never knew there was an Armstrong existing. Maybe it's not the Armstrong I know." He thought to himself.

He looked up to Lucas, "Young man, who is your father? Please don't mind my questions. I just want clarity on something, I don't want to think my mind is playing a game with me here", he explained to Lucas.

Before Lucas could reply, his wife stopped him from questioning the man further. They should have welcomed the man first before questioning him.

" Honey, I think we should entertain the man, before the investigation please" Lilliana interjected, as she joined her family

" I'm sorry for my manners, please let's have dinner", Justin apologized.

Lilly was quiet the whole time her father was questioning Lucas. She didn't know what her father was driving at, with his questions. She just had to keep calm.

They ate their dinner silently, but both Justin and Lucas could not focus on the food presented before them. Lucas was confused about Mr Rowland's approach while Justin tried not to look mad. He knew he wasn't insane, but he must get to the root of the matter.

" I must get to the root of this, I can't be crazy at this age. This is strange", Justin said to himself.
