PAUL'S DENIAL

Paul sat in his living room, phone in hand, trying to compose himself as he called Jakes. He knew he was angry and he didn't want to say something he might regret.

"Mr Paul. What's the matter?" Jakes replied, not knowing what to expect.

"I'm just really disappointed and surprised that you and Stephanie would label me as a thief just because I asked you for money some time ago," Paul said, his voice starting to rise.

"Paul, we didn't accuse you of anything. We just reported the theft of our cars to the police, as we were supposed to do," Jakes replied calmly.

"I know what you reported to the police, Jakes. But the way you guys have been acting towards me, it's like you think I'm some kind of criminal. I can't believe you would think that of me," Paul said, sounding hurt.

"Paul, we don't think you're a criminal. But you have to understand that it's natural for us to suspect that you might have had something to do with the theft.
