Chapter 4

The next morning, Alan was already dressed when Lilyana woke up. Of course, that made Lilyana frown in astonishment.

“You?” said Lilyana, looking at her husband in disbelief. “Where are you going so early?”

Alan smiled and replied, “Don't I have to take my wife to the Sun Group Southeast Asia office?”

Lilyana was even more astonished at this answer.

“Are you taking me to the Sun Group Southeast Asia office?” she asked incredulously.

“Yes, of course,” Alan replied firmly. “Come on, take a shower and get ready. Let me warm up the car and wait for you in the parking lot.”

“Alan, I haven't even made plans for when I'm going to the Sun Group's office.” Lilyana pulled Alan's hand as he was about to leave. “To be honest, I'm feeling a bit pessimistic that I'll be able to fulfill Dad's request. You know, as great as the Wongso Group is, it's still nothing in front of the Sun Group.”

“Lily, you haven't tried yet, why do you already think you'll fail? You're a great and talented woman, I have no doubt that you can fulfill Daddy's demands. So, let's try first. Let's use this first visit as an introduction, while monitoring the situation and possibilities.”

Lilyana was silent for a moment. She seemed to be considering something.

As Albert Wongso's third daughter, Lilyana had long held high positions in companies belonging to the Wongso Group. She had also had countless business meetings to explore partnerships with other parties.

But the Sun Group is on a very different level from the Wongso Group circle. Even Lilyana, who was very experienced, felt nervous and insecure about approaching the company.

However, Lilyana confirmed what Alan had said earlier. If you haven't tried it, why be pessimistic in the first place? Just try it first.

“All right,” Lilyana finally replied. “I'll take your advice. Wait, I'll have a shower and get ready first.”

Alan smiled broadly. As soon as Lilyana entered the bathroom, she sent Harold a message.

[I will arrive at Sun Group's Southeast Asia office in half an hour.]

[All right, Young Master. I've already reminded Megan to welcome you. She will help Young Master with everything later. The Summerville City house key is also in her hands.]

[There's no need for a welcome. I want to come quietly. Let me go up to meet her.]

[Alright if that's what Young Master wants.]

A few moments later the couple was already in a car heading to Sun Group's Southeast Asia office. A simple car, it didn't show that the owner was the third daughter of one of the regional's successful conglomerates.

Albert had actually bought a Porsche 911 Carrera for Lilyana. But the facility was taken away once Lilyana got married to Alan. It was replaced with a market MPV that cost much less.

“Do you know who to meet this time?” asked Alan as the car pulled up to the lobby of Sun Group's Southeast Asia office.

“Mmm, I'll try to meet the marketing manager. They're usually open to possibilities,” Lilyana replied. Her face turned tense and her heart skipped a beat.

“Alright, I'll wait for you in the parking lot. Good luck!” Alan said as well, patting Lilyana on the shoulder.

As soon as Lilyana entered the office lobby, Alan rushed the car to the back of the building. When he arrived earlier, he had already scouted the area and knew there was an employee-only entrance there.

“Stop! Where are you going?”

A loud exclamation made Alan press the brake pedal hard. The car came to a halt with a loud screeching sound.

A security guard was standing next to the car. He knocked impatiently on the glass of the car door.

“You're a guest, aren't you? You should have gone through the front lobby. This is the entrance for directors and managers only,” the security guard said as Alan lowered the glass on the car door.

Alan smiled in confusion. Next to the gate in front of him was a placard that read “Directors, Managers and Division Heads Only”.

“Oh, Megan's waiting for me. She said I could enter through here,” Alan replied later, trying to remain calm.

That answer made the office security guard laugh bitterly. He didn't realize that Alan had secretly read the name on his uniform: James.

“Megan, you say? Do you know who the person whose name you just mentioned is? It's just silly to call her like that. Call her Ms. Megan,” said the security guard looking angry.

“Sir, I'm not lying. I came here to see Megan, er, I mean Ms. Megan. She's even waiting for me. You can ask her if you don't believe me.” Alan was still trying to convince.

That remark made the office security guard snort in annoyance. How could he, a lowly employee, bother a vice-president just to inquire about the veracity of an unknown visitor's words?

After all, just by looking at the car Alan was driving, the security guard knew that the young man in front of him was not at the level of Megan Lu, the deputy CEO. Not even a Sun Group division head would drive a market MPV like this.

“Tell you what, young man. You go through the front lobby, meet the receptionist and tell her you want to see Ms. Megan. Obviously, you can't go this way,” the office security officer finally said.

“Sir...”

“Stop it, turn your car around and take it to the parking lot,” the security guard snapped.

Alan didn't want to cause a scene, so he complied. But just as he was about to reverse the car, there was a loud honk from behind.

“Well, look, you've upset a Sun Group executive by getting your car in his way,” said the office security guard who was still keeping an eye on Alan.

Alan poked his head through the glass of the car door to see what was behind him. It was at that exact moment that a man in a suit came up to him with an annoyed look on his face.

“Hey, are you blind or can't read?” snapped the man in the suit as he arrived next to Alan. “It clearly says this is the entrance to the board of directors and managers, why are you here?”

Just as Alan was about to answer, the security guard stepped in.

“I'm sorry, Mr. Charlie, I told this young man earlier, but he insisted on entering through here,” the security guard said, clearly wanting to corner Alan.

The man in the suit named Charlie snorted and gave Alan an annoyed look. “Get rid of your car! Don't ruin my good name by being late for an important meeting with the Tansyah Group!” he scolded.

“You hear that, young man? Get out of here, don't make our marketing manager late!” added the security guard.

Alan didn't answer again. He didn't want to be held up any longer over this issue. Without another word, Alan turned the car around and parked it in the parking lot.

Actually, Alan could have revealed his identity and gave a valuable lesson. But he didn't want to do that just yet. Not in front of those two people.

Most importantly for Alan, he already knew the identities of the two men: security guard James and marketing manager Charlie. All he had to do was wait for the right moment to make a calculation with them. Just be patient.

Then, Alan also learned that the Tansyah Group, the family of Albert's second son-in-law, was related to the Sun Group. Whether they were continuing their cooperation or still in the negotiation stage remained to be seen.

“Oh, if that arrogant man was the marketing manager Lily was going to meet, doesn't that mean Lily is still waiting in the lobby?” Alan muttered suddenly.

Remembering that, Alan smiled broadly. “Then I still have a chance to meet Megan without Lily finding out,” he muttered.

Alan got out of the car and entered through the front lobby. Right on cue, Lilyana was sitting on the sofa reading the company's intermal magazine.

Sneaking to avoid being seen by Lilyana, Alan hurriedly entered the elevator. He had been told by Harold which floor to go to meet Vice President Director Megan Lu.

“Uh, Sir, where are you going?” exclaimed a young woman who was surprised to see Alan's arrival. She hurriedly blocked Alan's path.

“Oh, I'm going to see Megan,” Alan replied, immediately stopping. “Sorry, I meant Ms. Megan.”

“Do you have an appointment?” the young woman asked. “What's your name? Let me check the agenda for your appointment with Ms. Megan if you have one.”

“My name is Alan. Harold made the appointment for me,” Alan replied.

“Wh-what?” The young woman gasped, her eyes wide open and her mouth gaping open. “So, you're... You are Young Master Alan?”

Just as Alan was about to reply, the door to the deputy managing director's room opened. From inside came a beautiful, elegant-looking woman. She was Megan Lu.

“What did you say, Gladys? Young Master Alan?” she asked, then turned her gaze to Alan.

Megan smiled instantly. She had been sent a picture of Alan by Harold, so she immediately recognized her future boss.

“You must be Megan, right?” asked Alan, extending his hand for a handshake.

Megan nodded in return, as she welcomed Alan's hand.

“Welcome, Young Master. Let me show you your office.”
