Jasper’s teeth hit their target dead on. The other wolf began to yip in forfeit. Jasper let him go and waited for him to change. Once he did, Jasper followed suit. “You are far more stronger than I remember! Let us talk and bury the hatchet.” This wolf knew he was no match for Jasper. So, the only thing he could do was bide his time and pretend to forgive. “Like I was saying I know not who you are, so I do not know of my wrong doings please enlighten me.” Jasper said innocently.
“The name is Thane. A few centuries ago, you were the cause of my father’s death. I have never been able to forgive you for that. You told him that you wanted to meet to talk about our packs becoming one, but when he arrived at the place you were supposed to meet him a group of men attacked him. At the time he was in his wolf form and the members of our pack heard his cries of pain. We rushed to his location, but it was too late. That was also the last day anyone ever saw you again.”
Jasper was dumbfounded. He was a lot of things, but a murderer was not one of them. Sure, he had killed in the past but that was purely out of self-defense. Why had he lured Thane’s father there and why did he disappear. “Do you know who these men were? I am truly sorry for what happened to your father. I would never purposely lead anyone to their death. Maybe these men are the reason for my disappearance as well.” Jasper said in wonder.
Thane was starting to have doubts about Jasper’s involvement. Could it be that he held on to this grudge for so long only for it to have been waisted resentment? Like Jasper he wanted answers that seemed impossible to find. “I do not know who the men were. All I know is they were dressed in black robes and wore hoods that hid their faces. Maybe the two of us could find them together. What do you say to our packs working together for the time being?”
Jasper took his time pondering his suggestion. He was slightly weary of working with Thane. After all this man did just try to kill him. Then again would he not do the same thing if he thought someone tried to kill the ones he loved. “I accept your proposal. Time is very short, and I do not know how long it will be until I disappear again. I cannot say more than that, but we need to work fast.” Thane was a bit confused by his cryptic words. He chose to leave it alone for the time being and to deal with the matter at hand.
Thane asked Jasper to come back with him to his pack so they could do the bonding ritual which will prevent either pack from hurting the other. Sabastian and another pack member, Avery, would be coming along. Sylvia wanted to come with them, but Jasper said no. “Let us make sure the ritual is finished before you get involved. In case Thane is trying to lure us into a trap I do not want you anywhere near this.” She agreed though she did not want to. She never wanted to leave his side again, but she knew that was improbable.
As they all took off on their journey to Thanes camp Jasper was deep in thought. Sylvia had told him about many different wolf packs. Thanes was the moonstone pack. Where as his was the Storm rose pack. Unlike other wolves these two packs aged at a very slow pace. He was wondering why that was. The story goes that a long time ago back in ancient times a witch had put a curse on a small village of people. They had offended her when a member of the village killed her pet wolf. As punishment she made them turn into wolves when there was a full moon.
As time passed the people of the village grew apart making new homes for themselves. Once they started families to their dismay they found when their children reached their thirteenth year they too would turn into wolves essentially resulting in the numerous packs that are out there in the world.
If the story was believed to be true, then what makes these two packs so different? The question was eating away at Jasper, so he decided to ask his father about it. “Father, why are we so different from others of our kind? They age like humans while we do not.” Sabastian chuckled at his son. “I have wondered that myself son. I do not know why we are different we just are. I never tried to find the answer though.” Thane cut in, “It is because long ago a fairy had fallen in love with a werewolf. As you may know Fairies live for centuries before growing old. She had wanted to spend her days with the wolf, so she used her magic to alter him and by doing so it altered his whole pack. Somewhere down the line a wolf from my pack and a wolf from yours fell in love causing all of us to experience the same magic.”
Jasper thanked Thane for his knowledge. It felt amazing to finally answer one of his many questions without leaving him with even more. They arrived at the moonstone packs camp two hours later. They built it into the trees around them. Bridges made of rope and plank dangled from the sky. Huts hung in the branches while there were built in ladders on the trees so they could reach them.
A female wolf noticed Jasper and she growled. Her hair was standing on end as she crouched to the ground. Jasper locked eyes with her and something about them was oddly familiar. It was not like he knew her rather like her eyes were a part of him. Within five seconds she pounced at Jasper going in for the kill.
Before the she wolf could attack Jasper Thane jumped and changed form in midair. He clenched his teeth into her hind leg causing her to fall flat on the ground. She yipped out in pain. Thane began growling, he was having a conversation with her that none of them could hear. A few moments later they both changed shape.“Please excuse my sister Andrea. Like me she wants nothing more than to avenge our father’s death. She did not know that we have called a truce.” Jasper waved his hand. “No blood no foul. Let us get on with the ritual and put this unnecessary violence behind us.”The ritual consisted of three parts. First, they had to say an oath. Then they sealed their bond in blood. Lastly, they run as a pack. It was all rather simple, but these rituals were not just mere words. It was a magic that a shaman passed on to them long ago. If any member of either pack broke this bond in anyway, they would be met with instant death. If any of them had ill intentions against another they woul
The man stared at Jasper with his mouth agape. “How did you know the name of the order!” His skin started to glow, and Jasper took a step back. This man before him was suspicious of him now and had some murderous intentions at that moment. Thane put his hands in the air and said, “Woah calm down Burne. The Storm Rose pack is our pack. Let him explain how he knows of them before you go jumping to conclusions.” The aura around Burne dissipated and he said, “Yes Alfa. Please forgive me for not trusting you. Tell us how you know of their existence.”Even though he knew they were going to think he was insane he told them about the two men who came out of the mountain side. Thane surprised him by saying, “I believe what you are saying for I too have seen this strange magic before. It was roughly a century ago. I was taking out the cubs of the pack for their first transformation. When I caught a glimpse of a strange man in a robe. I saw the mountain open up and he disappeared into it. After
The three of them followed the man into a large tent. Inside was nothing but a few chairs, a table, and what looked like an alchemy set. “Sit down at the table over there. By the way my name is Tomas, please tell me what do they call you. I am sure you do not wish for me to continue to call you shapeshifter.” Tomas said with certainty.“I am Jasper. Tell me Tomas, are you some type of scientist?” Tomas smiled slightly at him. “In a way you could say that I am. I am what most people would call a wizard if they believed such a thing existed. I am somewhat the shaman to the good people of this village. They know not about magic. They believe my healing and predictions come from the concoctions I make them, but in truth it is a type of earth magic. Now please lay your left arm across the table, and I will help you activate the sigil.Thane and Jasper were mystified. A sigil! Does that mean there was more to this symbol than meets the eye? A sigil was like a teleporter that could send you
Jasper struggled against the hand-woven net with everything he had. He tried biting and clawing his way through the intricate ropes without any success. Four men in Dark blue robes surrounded him. Each one had a different celestial marking on the torso area of their robes. By the looks of them they were from the very order he was seeking to find.“Do not resist Mr. Monroe we mean you no harm. We are here to warn you about the man Tomas that you sought help from. He is not who you think he is. If you return with the ingredients he asked for, he will betray you, and possibly kill you and anyone with you. He has been trying for ages to find a way to the orders sacred meeting place. He seeks our knowledge so he can use it to rule over the entire populus. Heed our warning. The answers you so desperately seek will come to you in due time. Please have patience. The decision is yours to believe us or to believe Tomas.”As quickly as they arrived, they were gone in a flash. The rope entrapping
Jasper and Thane slowly backed away from the tent their eyes as big as moons inside their sockets. Once they were far enough away, they turned and hurried back to Borne. As soon as he saw them, he could tell something was wrong. “Alfa what is it? You look as though you have just seen a ghost.” Thane grabbed onto Borne’s shoulder and said, “We will explain after we get out of here. Let us go quickly before Tomas discovers we are back.”Borne was a bit confused but he did not hesitate to follow his alfa’s orders. Once they got about a mile away from the village Thane finally said, “That rat bastard! The members of The Order of The Supernatural were right. He planned to have us all killed. All he cares about is getting into their meeting place. Jasper and I overheard him inside his tent talking to someone. Once back to the pack we will decide on what to do about him!”Jasper abruptly stopped. “What is it brother?” Thane asked out of concern. Jasper said sadly, “I think I should go back t
Tomas looked at Jasper with a confused gleam in his eye. “What do you know about that I don’t? You know nothing! It is a stalling technique, I am sure. Now let us get this over with. If you cooperate maybe I will not have to kill you. Besides you want answers yourself do you not?” Jasper continued smirking at Tomas. It was infuriating to Tomas. It only took a few moments to find out why Jasper was being so cocky. Out of nowhere a grey wolf came out of the shadows and plunged his sharp teeth into one of Tomas’s calves. He cried out in pain while he tried shaking the wolf off. Jasper took the opportunity to switch forms so he could join in the fight.Jasper’s head was still spinning in agony from the blow Tomas gave him the night before, so it took him a moment to realize the wolf who came to his rescue was none other than Borne. “Thane must have ordered him to go back to me after we parted ways.” Jasper thought to himself. Borne yipped in agreement. Jasper grabbed a hold of Tomas’s oth
Jasper rushed over to Borne’s side. He knelt down and put his knees under Borne’s head lifting him up slightly. Not fully knowing what to do he said, “Do not worry brother I will shift forms and call for help.” Borne stopped him from doing so.Borne grunted and said weakly, “Have you forgotten that we are werewolves? I will heal in a matter of minutes. Tomas’s intentions were not to kill me. He took me to the brink of death so I could not follow after him. He also left a message for you. It is over there on that table. Go on I will be just fine.”Jasper gently rested Borne’s head back on the cold hard dirt before heading over to the paper folded up on the table. He straightened it out and began to read it out loud. “Jasper. I did not kill your friend this time, but if I do not get what I want from you I will begin killing off your pack one by one starting with your mate Sylvia. You have twenty-four hours to think it through than meet me at my tent in my village if you do not show ther
Thane’s face was full of forlorn. “It matters not. If Tomas was responsible for my father’s death he will pay for his crimes. For now, we need to protect our packs. Come let us decide on our next course of action!”Jasper was beginning to worry he would not be able to stop Tomas before his ten days were up. When he inevitably disappears again, what will happen to his mate? He had no way of telling her what was destined to happen in five days’ time.Jasper was lost in his own thoughts of days to come, while Sylvia, Sabastian, Thane, and Borne discussed what to do next. Jasper had not noticed when the four of them became quiet, waiting for an answer to a question he had not heard.“Jasper? Are you with us?” Thane asked concerned. “I am sorry I was somewhere else for a moment, what was the question?” Jasper said apologetically. Thane responded absentmindedly. “I asked if you are planning to meet Tomas tonight or are you going to do something different?” Jasper gave an uncomfortable sigh.
