4. A Close Battle.

Before Chris could sigh in relief and relax his nerves, six more big ant matching from a little distance growling in is direction.

Due to ants nature of pack movement, it was right to expect more coming

However, Chris didn't panic and quickly grip the dagger tightly. As he wait for the right time to strike.

After spending some time to think, he realized that there was nothing to be done, all he could do his attack them, as he did to the previous 2 ant.

Immediately he took of with a more intense speed, this time they could not even keep up with his speed. Chris rushed straight for their core.

As soon as he got the last one at the back, he tighten his muscles, griping the dagger more tight.

He quickly stabbed the ant on its core with force enough to pull of the ant head from its body, and also coursing a very big impact on the ground.

Before the rest of the ant could react, to what was happening at the back he quickly finish them up with five strike on each with speed.

" I need to leave the environment as soon as possible." He soon realized that the environment as became a center of attention to the deviants.

Chris soon notice that, the ant he just killed where six, but his boost was not much greater than the first two he killed, the attributes were not much.

Seeing his frown, Arachne, who had been silent, calmly explained: " The more creatuers of the same time and level you kill, the less benefits you will get. Only by killing other creatures will you be able to aquire more benefits.... Of course, you can still level up by killing those low-level ant, but they would always be low as this."

Chris listen to her gretefull which his doubts were cleared. However, he soon asked, "Where is the map you were working on?"

Only now that his nerves had calmed down a bit, was he able to think properly.

A window immediately appeared with a image on it. It is the map of the changed world.

"Like are you serious right now?! Are you trying to tell me that these is what the world had really become. I was hoping for a safe place where I can run to, and you are giving me this. So where should I go?!" Chris asked with disappointment.

" The world as loose the form created by you, humans; the building, road, car and every other designed things, but there are things here before all of this were created." Arachne pointed using a ponter to identify what she was talking about on the window.

" So you mean the mountains." He laughed before he continued, " so the world as fallen back to the stone age, where people lived in cave."

Arachne sigh as she realized Chris could not understand what she was saying. Immediately she pinpoint a location on the window for Chris to see. " This place is not that far from here you should go there, maybe you would meet someone that can explain all these to you properly. For now, it's better to be in a safe place."

Chris looked at the environment and finally nodded. In fact, this was not the best place to ask questions so he quickly said, " you're right. I think my speed should take me there within some minutes."

Immediately he took of with his immense speed, running to the location of the mountains.

From a distance away from him. A rather pretty girl was running while a brown beetle that was almost two time bigger that the ants was chasing her at a outrageous speed. In a matter of seconds, the girl tripped and fell to the ground.

Her eyes flashed with terror as she saw the terrifying monster open its mouth. Just when the monster was about to eat the girl, there was a sharp flash that flickered for a second.

The giant beetle's movements stopped completely and a second later its body fell to the ground. Some kind of greenblood fell on the girl's body, but after being through so much terror, she did not scream, instead she just look at the person who just save her life.

It was non other, than , Chris.

" Stand up and follow me if you are looking for a safe place! Quickly!" Without waiting for response, he quickly move towards another person who was being attacked by a deviant ant and stabbed its core, with his dagger.

They quickly stood up, scared. They didn't dare to linger as they began to follow him, knowing that he was their only hope of survival for now.

Along the way, Chris also help and saved the lives of more than eighteen people; these people were all chased by animal or insert deviants. As for those who were caught in the process, there was no hope of surviving.

Suddenly another group of five people ran while a group of six ant chased behind. They didn't even dare to look back and concentrated on running with all their might. Unfortunately for them, just as they were running another group of five ant where approaching them from their from.

One of the students panicked and his movement froze, at once he was sliced into two by one of the ant.

Just as the rest were wailing and crying, there were several flashes of blade and in just over 30 second all six deviant ant were killed.

"Strong!" Alan Hill, a tall boy who is around the age of 17 couldn't help but exclaim as he saw Chris charging towards the five ant and killing them as if they were nothing.

After making quick work of killing the ants, Chris felt a little boost on his energy. He then walk towards the group of people and even before they could say thank you he pointed to the direction that they would be going and said in a firm voice, "we should keep moving."

Along the way he had saved the lives of five other, increasing the number of survivors at his side.

A man with gold- rimmed glasses and a rather handsome appearance was chatting with a female student who was looking at him with obvious crush. This guy's name was luke grooves and he was the vice president of the school Chris attended.

Before the break down phenomenon. Luke was a model student with excellent grades and in addition to his good looks he had many female suitors; even now that the world had change there were some surviving girls who look at him with strange glints in their eyes.

Luke had also been fighting since that time, he had no other options if he wanted to survive. He also gain an ability that he has matered a little bit, for just a short while. When he encountered Chris group he was about to be surrounded by six ant, which he could not kill at once.

After he killed four Chris killed the other two, he joined the group and help defend it from the deviants.

Swoosh!

Suddenly, a green shadow appeared in the distance charging towards the group of over twenty people with immense speeds.

Chris felt the blood lust he wanted to warn the group about what he felt, before he could react, that green shadow had already passed beyond his defense perimeter, and appeared in of Luke.

Luke face turned pale and he took several step back.

If he faced a few ant he was still fine, but if anything above the deviants ant speed appear, then there was no way he could even react!

Because Luke as only killed deviant ants so far, he only obtain and adapted to the speed of the ants.

Immediately he grabbed the girl who was chatting with him and did not even hesitate when he threw her in front of that strange shadow, taking cover in the process.

The green shadow flashed and in the next instant, the girl's body was split in two. Her blood splattered everywhere and a look of shock and incredulity shone in her eyes before she died. Even in her dreams, she would never have expected that the polite and gentlemanly Luke would actually not hesitate to make a cruel move.

The survivors panicked and they began to flee in all directions in a disorderly manner. Others did not move due to fear, and some smarter ones just walked away trying to get closer to Chris has he was the only hope they had of survival.

As for Luke selfish act, no one noticed... No one except for Arachne.

The green shadow was so fast that no one could react to its speed except for Chris. This strange creature suddenly seemed to realize something as it shot off a terrific speed toward Chris.

Clearly, the creature has realized that he was the best opponent around because his heart beat was stable.

Chris felt his body moved unconsciously raising his dagger horizontally

Clang!!!

The sound of metal clashing against metal echoed loudly. The green shadow was forced to stop its movements as creature try to overpower Chris with strength.

Only now the othes could distinguish the appearance of the monster that was attacking them.

" You guy should get out of here as soon as you can am not sure I can take down this one. Go to the direction I pointed out earlier, fast!!" Chris try to get rid of them before he starts fight with his speed and other power.

He was only pretending to be able to fight with the dagger with the help of his enhance strength. He doesn't want anybody to know of his true power.

The green shadow was actually a giant mantis that was almost tall as a building. Its terrifying eyes stared at him with killing intent. Its two large scythe like forelegs were pressing hard on the dagger, trying to force Chris back.

"Be careful! This mantis doesn't specialize in strength at all! Its current speed is twice as fast as yours!" Arachne voice sounded in is head, giving him vital information.

Chris grunted as he pushed forward with his strength, pushing the mantis away.

Swoosh!

The mantis disappeared and the next instant appeared before Chris again slashing downward with its scythe-like legs.

However, Chris could counter its attacks with no difficulty.

Clang!

Chris and the mantis engage in close combat with the intention of slaying the other. To survive, to evolve, to become strong.

The survivors did not left Chris being they stood there watching the intense battle between them, from their piont. They could only see two silhouettes flickering constantly and hear the constant sounds of metal clashing against metal.

Chris want to fight with all his strength but could not he did not want people to take him as center of attraction. So he decided to lure the mantis to the group gathering so the world run.

As they keep fighting approaching the group, they all began to run for their lives. Immediately the mantis was split into two, but not by Chris. The green blood of the mantis splattered all over Chris's body.

Suddenly every body stopped running as son as the mantis was killed.

Luke was standing on his front with an active stance, as if he use his hand to cut something.

"....what was that?! Are you also trying to kill me alongside the mantis." Chris angrily said.

" Ooh, am sorry about that. I was just finished off what you were struggling against. You know this my ability that can cut through anything, by the shockwave that come from my hand his very reliable." Luke said while smiling proud fully.
