The least I could find.

THE SON THEY NEVER WANTED

CHAPTER 5

***

The night in the cell was hell for Chris as no one came over, he was so anxious that he freaked out being there and prayed silently to get out so he could confirm his reality or illusion that was sent to his phone.

"Did the bank later change their minds?"

He muttered to himself. "But I never requested more than that."

Chris was in a haywire as he couldn't wait to get out while Logan was gathering evidence of his deeds to make sure he stays there.

He was aware of Darius but he didn't know the person working for him was his son in Law, he had done some research and not even a decent background was displayed about Chris which would make it easier to pin him down.

He has taken down different companies and killed two of his fellow allies who were Involved in dirty politics and drugs and now he was coming for him.

"Why don't we use him, boss?" One of his men had suggested it and he thought about it.

"It won't be easy, he's working for Darius"

"Do you think Darius would treat him fairly? He's so wretched, inviting him with a cash payment would easily sway him."

"Hmm.." Logan nodded in agreement as he thought of that too. He could use him to bring down Darius' group of companies to his name and reward him handsomely or even kill him when he's done.

"Call the police," Logan ordered him as he leaned back on the chair and waited for them to receive it as it was placed on the loudspeaker.

"Mr Logan?" The voice echoed through.

"Yeah, it's me. Release Chris Brent from the Cell and direct him to meet me immediately."

"Huh…really?"

"Get the fuck away from my phone and do just that!" He slammed irritatedly and cut the call.

The phone ran after some seconds and he groaned inwardly and picked it up.

"I'm sorry Mr Logan but Chris has been released this morning."

He said at the other end and Logan sat up in shock.

"What, who released him?" There's no way Darius would do that, he was so sure of that.

"I don't know either, it was from a higher authority."

Logan scoffed and cut the call as he knew that something was wrong somewhere.

Chris on the other hand confirmed his fears immediately after he was asked to be released, he didn't care to ask who bail him out as he rushed to his phone to still see the amount being credited into his account.

"So I wasn't imagining things?" He muttered in surprise and tried to access the sender but he couldn't. It was anonymous and it wasn't from a bank.

His excitement was so evident in his eyes as he rushed to the company and got the account details to credit the company's account so he could use it and pay for whatever ransom Logan was requesting.

He would pay the sender later if he ever comes around to ask.

Right now, his family was more important.

Chris rushed back to the Mansion to see Darius, everyone was so shocked, they knew it would be hard for him to get out as Darius wasn't in the mood to help.

"I'm glad you're back!" Mia exclaimed and went to hug him but he pushed her aside carefully. If not for the pregnancy she was carrying he would have pushed her so hard as long as no one was watching.

"Chris?"

"What is it, Mia? Are you disappointed that I'm back?"

Chris asked her irritatedly, he couldn't believe that the woman he loved so much never saw her as a Man but a puppet for her father.

"Why are you so salty? You need to listen to this."

"Save it, Mia, I won't." He slammed and walked out to meet her dad who was having his breakfast.

Darius didn't react to his presence but he was shocked, the Logan he knew would never let Chris out of that cell, not after he had evidence that he was his son-in-law.

"Chris…" he called softly and Chris faked a smile, gulping his Saliva at the sumptuous meal they were eating. He never has the Rare opportunity of tasting that.

He had better leave this place before his stomach rumbled and disgrace him.

"I've gotten the money." He blurted out and Darius spat out the food in his mouth in shock.

"What sort of joke is that?" He sounded pissed that he came to distract his meal with such absurd news when the deed is already done.

"I'm not joking, I've credited it to the company's account and I'll place a statement tomorrow to pay for the required amount," Chris said, stretching the receipt to Darius who collected it and scanned the contents and his eyes almost bulged out in surprise. The account was under his name.

"Which bank gave you this loan!" He smashed the cup he was holding on the floor in anger.

"I specifically told them not to give you a penny so you won't bankrupt my company!"

"You told them?" Chris asked with spite, he already knew the order behind the incessant rejection but he was just curious to know which someone can be so cruel.

"How did you get this?" Darius asked.

"How do you expect me to get the money after shutting all the banks to cut their loan from me? Why are you doing this?" Chris yelled in pain.

"Stop answering me with questions and answer me! Did you touch my money?"

"I never did that, I was thrown into the cell barely after minutes of leaving the bank. I don't know how I got it but don't hurt my family! I've done what you requested in one day."

He scoffed and shrugged his shoulders.

"You were never going to come back under Logan's orders, how was I supposed to know?"

Darius said and picked the bacon on his plate to eat while Chris frowned so hard that his heartbeat increased its tempo.

"What do you mean?" He asked, barely in whispers and Darius sighed.

"I've burnt your parent's house, that's the least I could find."
