At that moment Winston’s eyes flickered with something unreadable as he turned to face Victoria. She stood there with her arms still crossed, head tilted slightly, observing him with an amused smirk.

The lighting of the room cast shadows across her face, but it didn’t hide the curiosity burning in her eyes.

“Who is this Demian you keep talking about?” she repeated, taking a slow step forward.

Winston’s lips curled in irritation. He exhaled sharply, shoving his hands into his pockets as if trying to push away the frustration boiling inside him.

“It’s nothing important,” he muttered, brushing the topic off as if it held no weight. But the tightness in his jaw betrayed him.
