Chapter 38: Gyrokinesis.

The invisible teardrop shaped vehicle was traveling at Mach 4, which is the maximum legal speed on earth, and also coincidentally, the maximum speed that a silent object can stealthily move without Creating a loud sonic boom that reveals its location.

Adam and Birdy were comfortably resting inside their virtual reality capsule, while Keet was busy sorting the data he collected on Adam’s body.

“The rules of the game are quite simple, you create an avatar, choose some powers or randomize them, and then dive into the world trying to survive as long as possible.” Birdy explained in the White space, barely containing his excitement to play the game with Adam.

“What happens when you die!”

“You lose every thing and must start over, new avatar, new powers, and new adventure!”

The idea of the game interested Adam a little, he clicked on the game icon, instantly getting transferred to the game lobby with Birdy by his side.

“I already tried it once and I got killed by a monster in a cave when I was trying to get a treasure, it was so scary! My heart almost stopped!”

“So if we start together, we go in to the game together?”

“Yeah! We get to go on adventures together! Isn’t that awesome?!”

Adam noticed that Birdy stopped mentioning the comics since he saw the virtual reality. ‘maybe he just needed a taste of some real excitement.’

Birdy did actually forget all about the comics, he discovered that there’s a whole new world he didn’t know anything about before.

the educational program introduced the current world technologies and their basic functions. When the program reached the part about the virtual worlds, Birdy asked if he can try it, and since he had an unrestricted access, the system immediately brought up a list of all public virtual worlds and games, and in the top of that list there was Grandmenia, the number one virtual world in the current rankings.

The game lobby was in the space above the planet, and they were standing on an invisible floor in space, the entire world visible beneath them, and a sea of stars and galaxies above , thousands of people were standing on the same invisible floor around them, but they looked so far they couldn’t distinguish their characteristics nor facial features.

They were directly above a random island, they scrolled between the maps, and the floor would move them to another area on the artificial planet, which consisted mainly of islands of many different colors, with more then 70% of the planet being land.

Adam scrolled between the different maps, and finally settled with an island that didn’t look crowded, he chose this one because it had the least amount of players. They could travel the world once they start their journey, but that is if they survive long enough to do so.

The island’s information was displayed beside the map of the island on the holographic screen in front of them, but non of them bothered to read it at all.

They needed to choose the Avatar and the skill next, the game allowed the player to use his real appearance, or change it as much as he wants, within the decency guidelines of course, they wouldn’t entrust a bunch of teens with that much freedom.

Adam chose his real appearance, the game warned him that once he dies using this avatar, he will have to change at least 15% of the overall appearance of the avatar to use it again.

“They take the death of the avatars really seriously!” Adam chuckled at the odd settings of the game, why would a game go to such length to imitate real death, didn’t they have enough death in the real world.

Birdy was so focused on creating his avatar, he didn’t hear Adam’s comment. He created a huge muscular man, wearing a strong looking leather armor, with blond hair and handsome facial features, he randomized the facial features many times until he was satisfied with it.

When it was time to choose skills, Birdy asked Adam about the type of powers he want to have, Adam didn’t have any idea about what kind of power systems the game had, so he checked the long list to see if there is something he likes.

To read the entire list of the powers included In the game, Adam would need at least a few hours, so he just used the search function to find the skills that can allow him to fly, hoping that it will be some kind of training.

Skills including the flying abilities.

1- Archery.

2- Telekinesis.

3- Pyrokinesis.

4- Gyrokinesis.

5- Infernal spawn.

Adam’s eyes fell on the Gyrokinesis skill, and thought it would be conveniently similar to the gravitational fields he can produce. So he opened the skill description.

Gyrokinesis skill tree: mentally manipulate gravitational fields, allowing to increase or decrease the effects of gravity around any desired area, to make objects extremely lighter, heavier or to crush things by compressing them with intense gravity. Can be used on the user to decrease his weight and jump higher or to avoid fall damage.

“I like this one!” Adam instantly confirmed his choice and waited for Birdy, who seemed lost between the skill descriptions, reading one after the other.

“What’s wrong Birdy!”

“I can’t make up my mind! There are too many skills! What if I choose one and it turns out to be weak?” Birdy took this too seriously for a game, at least by Adam’s standards.

Choosing a power didn’t make the avatar immediately strong, it just gave the basic abilities of that skill to the player to start with, upgrading the skill or choosing an entirely different path once they start the game was up to the player.

Later in the game, the player would be able to learn any kind of skill he wants, as long as he can find it in treasure chests, or afford to buy it from the player who found it.

“What did you choose last time?”

“I randomized everything, just to get into the game faster, they gave me an X-ray vision, which was useless in a fight! That’s why I died.” Real sadness appeared on Birdy’s face, Adam didn’t fully understand the reason Birdy was taking the game so seriously, but he understood that it was the first time for him to do something like this, and the game did feel real.

Confusing the reality with the game would result in a mental disorder for Birdy, Adam knew this because he saw people taking the game too seriously like Birdy is doing now, and he heard that it sometimes ends with them playing virtual reality games full time, ruining their lives, and long periods of times spent inside the game would have a negative effect on their health.

“It’s just a game Birdy, just have fun!” Adam wouldn’t let that happen to Birdy, he would be lonely if Birdy spent his entire time in the game. “Why don’t you choose a skill that can be used together with the one I chose! We are making a team, right?!”

“What skill did you choose!”

“Gyrokinesis, I’m using it to train my visualization of the gravitational fields, like a training. ”

“ummm… what skill can be used with that?!” Birdy was actually confused more than before, he now had to use a Skill that can be used with Adam’s skill, and felt pressured to not let Adam down.

“Choose telekinesis!” Adam gave him the answer when he didn’t seem to be getting to it on his own.

“Okay! Let me read what it can do!” Birdy didn’t know of the concept of telekinesis, the comics he was reading was made for children, they didn’t include complicated concepts like that, and he had no other way of getting information. the daily educational classes taught him scientific subjects, like math, physics, and chemistry, There was no fictional education.
