Chapter 0003

“Here we go again about my dad.” Tyler said weakly and hesitant to go into the car. He had been avoiding talks about his father for years, even with Elena, the woman he loved the most and he wasn't ready to hold such a discussion at that time.

“Come on Tyler.” She urged.

Tyler looked around as if to check if anyone was watching, especially his wife's friends who were always on the look for some fresh news to gossip about.

He opened the door and sat in the front seat with Bella. “I wanted to open the door for you but I remembered you don't like so much respect in public.”

“Yep, respecting me like that will make people suspect, and they'll get to know who I really am.”

“Oh yeah, I get it. You want a drink?” Bella stretched a chilled can of drink towards him and he looked at it with hesitation. “Don't worry it ain't got too much sugar.” She assured with a smile and he reluctantly took it.

“Mmn… Tastes good. Nice.” He said after a sip from the can.

There was silence for about a minute before Tyler asked “how did you find me?” “You ask like you don't know what your father's capable of doing.”

“What’ you talkin ‘bout?”

“Your dad knows every move you make.”

“I know he does.”

“And he cares for you, Tyler.”

“That one's a lie. He doesn't.”

“Why would you say that?”

“A father who truly loves his son will support him.”

“But he does want to support you.”

“No he doesn't! He shouldn't have kicked me out of the house because I refused to marry the girl he arranged for me.”

“Tyler, you need to listen to me.”

“Nah Bella, I always told dad that I love Elena but he wanted me to marry someone else, someone I never cared about. When I insisted on marrying the woman I wanted, he pushed me away and used his influence to make sure that I don't find any good job. The janitor and delivery job were the best I could get and now I've lost ‘em and I've lost my wife too.”

“Your wife left you?”

“Yeah sadly.”

“I'm guessing she left for a richer man.” “Obviously.”

“And you abandon all the riches and luxury in your family just to come here and be treated like shit?”

“I did it for love.”

“And now that love has left you for money.”

“And she will regret ever leaving me. I'm going to make her regret it.” His voice was firm and filled with promise.

Bella looked at Tyler's faded cheap clothes and laughed “No woman will regret leaving a man dressed like this.”

Tyler turned to look at himself and realized just how shabby he looked. He lowered his head in shame and his eyes red from the tears he was trying to hold in.

He had been a hardworking man who cared so much about a woman who never appreciated him, all the money he got from sweating under the hot sun and from cleaning floors was always spent on the expensive bags and jewelry that Elena wanted, he never got a shirt for himself and never noticed until that moment.

“I know how you must feel right now.”

Tyler looked right into her eyes, “No you don't! No one knows how I feel.”

“At this moment, you can't let the pain get the better of you Tyler, and if I were you, I'll be thinking about going back home.”

“Please don't talk about home, please.” He turned his face away.

“It's just a suggestion, I mean if you look at it carefully, you'll get to see that your dad only did what he thought was best for you.”

“I don't want him getting too involved in everything about my life Bella, I'm not a child!”

“Well I guess you’ kinda right. But right now you look like you need saving.” Bella said as she searched for something in her purse, “Take this.” She gave him a Black card. “There's 1 million in this card, use it to buy some good clothes for yourself.”

A smile sneaked its way to Tyler's face and he found confidence for the first time in a long time. He looked at the card trying to remember when last he had access to that kind of money, it was a thousand times bigger than the pay he received every month as janitor.

“Thanks Bella.” He slid the card into his pocket. “One million just for some clothes? I mean I could get myself a nicer place to live, you know, or even start up a business.” His excitement became more unhidden as he robbed his palms together smiling.

“If you didn't run out of the house for love, you'd be using millions on a single meal.”

“Oh come on Bella, you really gonna keep bringing up the me running away stuff?”

“It breaks my heart seeing how this all ends up, that bitch just dumped you after all the sweat. I feel for you and I'm so sorry for everything you've been through.”

“Thank you so much Bella.”

“Yep, but we ain't done yet.” She turned to get a document from the back seat of her car and handed it to Tyler.

“What's this?” Tyler wondered as he looked closely at the white paper with writings in vivid black ink.

“Your divorce ain't gonna ruin you Tyler, as long as you sign this document, you'll get everything that belongs to you.”

Tyler smiled, “Are you for real?” He didn't know why he asked that.

“Hundred percent! Just take the pen and do it already.” Bella urged him with a pen stretched forward.

There was hope all over Tyler's face as he took the black pen from her, “I'm glad you came, Bella.”

“And I'm glad to be here.”

“Right now, I have just one more thing to deal with.”

“What's that?”

“I'll need you to drive me somewhere.”
