Chapter 2: World shattering

    After seeing the body of his dead father, there was only one last corpse that was left to see, which was the corpse of his younger sister.

   Maverick swallowed his anger and closed the room, then went to another room to search for his sister, but to his shock, there was no sign of his sister, Melisa.

   Even after searching the whole house, Maverick failed to find any signs of Melisa, although he was anxious about it he was still a little relieved since he couldn't find her, there was a chance that she was still alive and wasn't killed like the rest of his family.

    Maverick sat on the wooden floor panting and gasping for breath, he was heartbroken and filled with grief over the death of his parents, he was thinking hard, trying to identify who was responsible for this among his enemies but despite his efforts, he couldn't come up with anyone who is crazy enough to do something like killing his parents in such a cruel manner.

    "ah, so you came back home after all, I finally found you" As he was in deep thought, a voice suddenly rang out in Maverick's ears causing him to jolt out of the ground and look behind him with vigilance.

   "Who is there!" Maverick exclaimed as he stared at the dark corner in the living room where the sound came from.

   The living room was dimly lit, shadows dancing on the walls as the flickering candlelight struggled to push back the darkness.

   From a shadowy corner, a figure emerged, his presence almost ghostly. He was a middle-aged man, his face etched with the lines of time and experience.

   His attire was a classic suit of deep burgundy velvet that rustled softly with each step. The high collar and intricate lace trim spoke of elegance and refinement, while the long coat and tailored trousers added an air of mystery.

    "Hello dear, I am Sherlock, I was hired to kill you and these two husband and wife. It's nothing personal. it's just work,"

  "Just work!" Maverick exclaimed loudly. His mind totally went blank after hearing the words of Sherlock as it aggravated him to the extreme.

   Both his parents were cold bloodedly murdered and it was nothing personal? One of the two most important people in his life had been ruthlessly taken away from him, and to the killer, it was just work?

  "I'll kill you!" A crazy roar tore out of Maverick's mouth as he rushed towards Sherlock, furiously punching towards his face with all of his strength however……..

    The instant in which Maverick took up to five steps and reached one meter to Sherlock, he suddenly felt his body propel backward at a very fast speed.

   Maverick's surroundings suddenly blurred in his eye until he suddenly slammed into the wooden wall behind him.

   Maverick was shocked by what happened, he suddenly felt pain on both his hands so he lowered his gaze to check his hands and then he realized that there were two knifes that were impaled into both his hand.

    "What! How is this possible!" Maverick exclaimed in his mind when he saw this. It was at this moment that he realized exactly what had happened.

     As it turned out, in the short moment in which he reached Sherlock, Sherlock had swiftly threw out these knifes, which stabbed into his hand and blasted him into the wall which he was impaled on.

    "How is this even possible" Maverick exclaimed again as he had no idea how this was possible, how did Sherlock move so fast that he had failed to even see?, how did he have the power to send him flying into the wall by just casually flicking some small knives?.

    There was no way that this was possible unless Sherlock was one of those…one of those evolvers that Maverick had heard of.

     Maverick's dad once told him about the weapon of humanity against the apocalypse, the evolvers who are humans that gain the ability to evolve by absorbing spirit energy from the world.

  Maverick dad told him that such people possess power beyond comprehension of ordinary humans.

   "Come out, lady. Ashely, I have the boy where you want him, don't you think it's time you come in and give me my payment?" Sherlock suddenly said as he turned away from Maverick.

   Maverick's heart shook when he heard those words. Why did Sherlock mention Ashly? What does Ashely have to do with this?.

  Maverick's heart raced when he heard Ashely's name from Sherlock’s mouth, the reason was because Ashely was none other than his girlfriend, the only person in this world that he cared about apart from his family.

   Ashely came from a prominent background. She was the daughter of the district lord who overseas the whole district.

  In Mavericks memory, Ashely had always been a kind hearted girl, she was the only one who had ever helped him in this cruel world which was why he became close with her, it was also the reason why he was very confused hearing Sherlock mention her name here.

   Suddenly, a charming young lady at the age of twenty who was dressed in a captivating dress walked into the house.

   she exudes a natural charm that captivates everyone around her. Her eyes, a sparkling shade of hazel, Her smile lights up her face and reveals a hint of playful mischief.

      She had a graceful demeanour, moving with an effortless elegance that draws admiration. Her hair, a cascade of soft waves, frames her face perfectly, adding to her youthful allure.

     She was none other than Ashely, Maverick's girlfriend whom he'd least expected to show up here. She strides into the room majestically.

       Besides, Ashely was a young man in his early twenties, He stands tall at around 6 feet with a lean, athletic build that hints at his active lifestyle. His hair is a rich, dark brown, slightly tousled, giving him a carefree yet stylish look.

  His eyes are a striking shade of green, framed by thick, dark lashes that add depth to his gaze. His skin is smooth and lightly tanned, suggesting he spends a fair amount of time outdoors.

    Behind Ashely and the young man were some middle-aged men with disorderly appearances who were all dressed in greenish brown outfits.

     This young man's identity was a mystery to Maverick, but he had no time to care about that now. He turned to Ashely and asked. "Ashely, what are you doing here? Tell me that you don't have anything to do with this?"

    Ashely smiled at Maverick, and then she replied coldly. " Sorry, i have everything to do with this, my father gave the order to terminate your family however, it is my wish for you to remain alive in your last breath so that I can tell you the truth face to face"

     Maverick went silent when he heard this from Ashely. At first, he didn't dare to believe it when he saw her here, but hearing this from her mouth totally scattered his imagination.

  "Why did you do this!" Maverick screamed.

  "Oh please, stop it with that your dramatic expression, I am only following my father’s wishes, just like how I pretended to get into a relationship with you in the first place!"

  "Did you actually think that a poor mortal like you who has nothing to offer was qualified to get into a relationship with me? I was only using you to get information about your family."

  "in doing that I learn that in your family, your sister is the only one who is useful, you and your parents my friend are only a piece of trash with no value that is why your death was ordered."

  "Did you know that your family came from a very big force in the city? For some reason, they ran into this poor district and hid their identities, but their past still got to them."

 "some big shot from the city central ordered my father to kill you and those two weak old fools and as for your sister, he was ordered to bring her alive, she should already be delivered as we speak"

  "How dare you!" Maverick screamed atop his lungs as he furiously struggled with all his might to get out of the wall but no matter how much he pulled, he couldn't remove the knifes which impaled him unto the walls.

      " How dare me? For someone who is weak and useless you've really got some nerves to say that to me, but I won't bother with you further, I can't waste my time arguing with you in front of my man" Ashely said as she grabbed the hands on the young man close to her and gave him a peck on the cheeks.

     Maverick was mad with fury watching this, there were numerous thoughts going on in his mind, the fury of seeing the only woman he had loved betraying him, the fury of having his parents murdered because of Ashely and her father.

    A few days ago, if anyone were to tell him that this would happen, he would never have believed it, but here he was, experiencing one of the greatest pains in the world. Maverick's world was totally shattered at this moment.
