Chapter 4 - A battle

Before starting his interrogation, James waited for all the members of the Red Ax to wake up, as many of them were unconscious. He wanted to see all their confessions.

It may sound preposterous, but James could tell for sure when someone was lying just by looking at the outline of the other person's face. Even if it was twenty-five people at a time, he could see immediately if one of them was lying to him.

He ordered everyone there to sit cross-legged, facing him, including the leader of the gang.

"Say! Did your gang rob a house in the Sidmouth area the other day?" said James.

"No, James, the Red Axe gang aren't so much into street crimes like they used to be. We've got an escort business to smuggle liquor and other illegal goods," said Freedie.

"Is it true?" James snapped. Simultaneously, all the members of the Red Ax who were there answered, "Yes, sir."

"If you don't believe me, you can ask the Mafia, as they often hire us to do the job, including Old Man Alfred. I was at the bar earlier because of the business," Freedie said, trying to convince James further.

"Then, do you have any clue as to who and which gang is still committing robberies around the Sidmouth Road area?" he asked.

"If you're asking about street crimes, you can probably ask the damn Wolves of the Fenrir Gang. Lately, their actions have gone too far, causing chaos wherever they stand. Even in crowded public places, they dare to commit robbery, extortion, and bullying," Freddie answered.

Hearing that answer, James frowned. For a moment, he thought maybe the Wolves had killed his lover. But he wouldn't just believe it, even if Freddie didn't show any lies on his face.

"How big are they now?" James asked again.

"It's pretty big, James. Since you left the gangster world five years ago, they've developed really quickly. Their numbers have reached hundreds by now," Freddie answered.

James again thought about fighting a gang with that many members—alone, it would not be possible, even if he had nine lives. He realized that he needed more mature preparation for the battle.

"My final question: is Fenrir still led by Michael?" James asked, mentioning a name that used to be his right hand in Ragnarok. He knew that after the disbandment of Ragnarok, the last news was that Michael had joined Fenrir, and in no time he had become the leader of his gang.

"Don't you really know about Michael? He died, James, a few months ago. He was killed during the struggle for the leader's throne against the current leader of Fenrir."

"Dag!" His chest felt as if it had been hit by a large rock. His heart seemed to stop for a moment as the news of death pushed into his soul once again. His hands clasped together, his eyes bloodshot, and his teeth clenched together to hold back his anger.

Michael was one of the seven Ragnarok division commanders, and he was also one of James' closest friends since they had been friends since they were young. This news made James even more determined to destroy all gangsters in Great Britain.

“Tell me what information you have about the leader of Fenrir!” James demanded, his eyes filled with rage as he held a dagger threateningly against Freddie's face.

"I-I don't know much," Freddie stammered, his fear clear on his face as he looked at the dagger so close to him. He swallowed hard before continuing, "All I know is that the new leader of Fenrir, the one who killed Michael, is called Gerald Winterson. He's really mysterious; nobody had heard his name before he suddenly became the leader of Fenrir and killed Michael. The most recent news I've heard is that Gerald has some kind of strange, mysterious power."

“Where can I find the wolves right now?” he asked.

"You can find them in the harbor storage area near London Bridge," said Freddie.

Feeling that he had gotten enough information from Freddie, James immediately left the abandoned building. Without taking a break after taking on twenty people alone, James, fueled by a vengeful grudge, headed straight for the warehouse near London Bridge.

Right before heading to the warehouse that Freddie mentioned, James first visited a pet shop. But, of course, the shop wasn't just an ordinary pet shop; it was a camouflage. The shop actually sold various types of illegal weapons, including firearms.

With the gold coins he had, James bought two Uzi rifles and ammunition, as well as dozens of smoke bombs and grenades. He hadn't forgotten to buy sharp wire up to tens of meters in preparation for destroying Fenrir Alley.

After all the preparations had been made, he brought a suitcase full of weapons to the warehouse. As for the other suitcase, he kept it safe in his house.

It was only a few minutes before the light of the evening that had shone on the British sky disappeared, shrouded in the darkness of the night. It was the perfect moment for James to make his move, stealthily inching between the shadows and the darkness.

When he arrived at the warehouse area, James didn't have to bother looking for where the wolves' base was, as Fenrir members were milling about there. He simply kidnapped one of them, beat him and got information on where their base was.

Arriving in front of the Fenrir base, James did not immediately break in. He made a brief observation of the area to gather information and formulate a plan. After learning that there were two guards at each entrance, both in front and on the side of the Fenrir base, James decided to use a weapon called the blowpipe.

The weapon was quite traditional but very effective, as it didn't make a sound and didn't require a lot of movement. In an instant, the four guards of the Fenrir members present there were successfully paralyzed with these weapons. They weren't dead, but only unconscious, and James locked them up in a container so they wouldn't get in the way of his plans.

Immediately afterwards, James wedged the doors so they wouldn't open easily, and placed sharp wire in front of them. After making sure the wires were neatly arranged as he wanted, James put all the smoke bombs in every vent in the warehouse that served as Fenrir's base. He then tied wire around the building, and in one fell swoop created mass chaos. In the midst of the chaos that ensued, James ran around the building throwing dozens of grenades and burning down the Fenrir members inside.

That's what he thought, but the plan failed miserably. From the direction of the front door, someone emerged from within the Fenrir gang headquarters. Smashing through the door, they cut the sharp wire attached just by going through it as if the wires were just cobwebs. Thanks to that, the Fenrir members rushed out of the building, and almost all of them survived, even though they were heavily injured.

James saw with his own eyes that the rumors Freddie said were true. It was impossible for any normal human being to survive a puff of smoke and an explosion without a single scratch and then severing sharp strands of wire as if nothing had happened.

In addition, from this well-built person with long yellow hair, something similar to blue smoke was emitting upwards. It was so bright that it was clearly visible to the naked eye and howled like fire. James was sure that this person was Gerald Winterson, the current Fenrir leader who was rumored to have mysterious powers, as well as the person responsible for Michael's death.

"Get out, you coward! I know you're still here! Show yourself, and I'll kill you right now!" shouted Gerald angrily. It was clear that his face was red and his eyes were bulging, hunting every corner to find the culprit.
