Chapter 3: stupid woman

In contrast to his seemingly relaxed demeanor, his voice was truly chilling, as if a venomous snake could strike at any moment.

The crowd fell silent for a moment as if frozen.

Only Mrs. Campbell still hadn't sensed the danger; perhaps she was too accustomed to Scott's submissive appearance in the past.

She was only surprised that Scott dared to tell her to leave.

After a brief silence, she burst into laughter, "Ha ha ha, what are you talking about? Someone like you invited by the mayor? Are you still dreaming? This isn't a dream, ha ha ha."

She laughed loudly, lacking any courtesy.

Others seemed to be infected by her tone and couldn't help but burst into suppressed laughter.

Indeed, it was ridiculous for Scott to claim he was invited.

Who did he think he was?

Just a ridiculed son-in-law and a joke for the entire city.

Thinking about it, a sense of fear among the others immediately dissipated.

They felt that the intimidating gazes earlier were probably just their illusion.

Mrs. Campbell, showing anger, snapped, "Alright if you don't wake up, I'll call security!"

At this moment, a stern and somewhat aged voice suddenly echoed, "What's happening here?"

Everyone immediately turned their attention towards the sound, only to see the crowd quickly parting to make way.

On the other side, the mayor was stepping towards them, taking measured steps.

The mayor, over fifty years old this year, had silver-white hair and a face full of wrinkles.

However, his sharp and imposing eyes still made people hesitate when facing him.

Beside the mayor was a man with a distinguished appearance and an air of success, unmistakably a prosperous businessman.

However, all those present were successful entrepreneurs in the city of A, so despite the man's slightly more remarkable appearance, he didn't attract much attention.

Most people's eyes were focused on the mayor.

Mrs. Campbell's eyes lit up as soon as she saw the mayor.

She glanced at Scott and then looked back at the mayor, making a decision in an instant.

She walked up, smiling, "Mr. Mayor, you've finally appeared. Your charisma is still admirable."

Despite Mrs. Campbell's flattering words, the mayor's face showed little emotion.

Mrs. Campbell forced a smile and quickly pointed at Scott, saying, "Mr. Mayor, a lowly fellow suddenly appeared at your party."

Pausing for a moment, she smiled and added, "No need to hide, Mr. Mayor. He's our incompetent son-in-law. I hope you won't blame security; surely, he used the reputation of our Campbell family to sneak into this party. Truly a despicable and shameless person. I'll call security to escort him out immediately, ensuring he won't disturb you and the esteemed guests."

Mrs. Campbell spoke vehemently, clearly convinced that Scott was the intruder.

Her words made the mayor's face worsen a bit, even showing a hint of concern.

He discreetly glanced at Walter standing beside him, silently wishing he could turn back time and directly shut Mrs. Campbell up!

Mrs. Campbell was oblivious to the change in the mayor's expression.

She continued, "Anyway, such a grand party cannot be tarnished by a few flies and mosquitoes."

At this moment, the man standing quietly next to the mayor suddenly chuckled.

His voice wasn't loud, but was enough to startle the mayor.

Walter looked at the mayor's alarmed face and smiled, "Actually, if Scott and I are not welcome, the mayor can say it straight, and we'll leave."

The mayor, now angered, without hesitation, raised his hand and delivered a strong slap to Mrs. Campbell's face, who was still spouting obscenities.

Mrs. Campbell's face turned to the side due to the force of the blow, her eyes wide with disbelief.

Aboli and others were also astonished, first by the arrogant words of the man, and then by the mayor's favoring attitude.

Almost with just this one action from the mayor, they realized a truth: both individuals before them were not to be trifled with!

The mayor was now furious.

He looked at Mrs. Campbell and angrily said, "I've never even heard of the Campbell family name. I couldn't care less about the status of your family in this city. If you dare to offend someone from ProTrade Capital, I think you should leave here as soon as possible!"

The mayor was truly enraged, and his gaze at Mrs. Campbell was akin to looking at a madwoman.

He had put in a lot of effort to invite the ProTrade Capital conglomerate to invest in the city of A.

If this foolish woman ruined this investment plan, he was sure he could skin her alive!

Thinking this way, the mayor wasted no time and immediately signaled security on the side.

The security personnel swiftly moved forward.

At this point, Mrs. Campbell seemed to have calmed down a bit after the mayor's slap.

Almost instantly, cold sweat covered her forehead.

It seemed unavoidable; her incompetent son-in-law was somehow connected to ProTrade Capital.

She didn't believe this, but thinking about the impending loss of the opportunity to collaborate with ProTrade Capital, Mrs. Campbell hastily turned to the mayor.

"I apologize, Mr. Mayor. I had no idea about their identity. This time, I made a mistake, and I am sure I can rectify..."

Mrs. Campbell pleaded frantically, but at this point, she was restrained by security.

Aboli, standing on the side, was also escorted outside.

At this moment, her face truly reflected extreme embarrassment, humiliated in front of the elite of the city of A.

She couldn't fathom where she could show her face in the future.

The mayor furrowed his brows at Mrs. Campbell, not uttering a word but signaling security to act swiftly.

Seeing this, Mrs. Campbell immediately glared at Scott, who remained calm, seated on the side.

Nevertheless, she showed no signs of apology; instead, her eyes widened with a malicious glare.

She expected Scott to apologize, just like in the past.

However, she didn't have to wait this time, as Scott was no longer the same person he was three years ago.

Scott looked at her, smiling, and said, "You should have left earlier. Clearly, I gave you that chance."

His smile was genuinely indifferent, indicating that he had no interest in Mrs. Campbell's vile behavior.

He chuckled, knowing that his indifference would only further enrage her.

Mrs. Campbell seemed taken aback by Scott's unexpected response.

She widened her eyes, displaying a fierce and angered look.

However, at this point, there was nothing more she could do.

The security personnel had already held her back and were escorting her out of the reception hall.

Aboli, trailing behind Mrs. Campbell as she passed Scott, suddenly opened her mouth, offering a faint apology that only Scott could hear.

Despite this, Scott's face remained expressionless.

He didn't even glance at Aboli until she disappeared from his view.

Mother and daughter from the Campbell family were expelled from the reception hall.

The mayor quickly looked at Walter and then at Scott.

He spoke loudly, "It's just a minor incident. Everyone, please enjoy the party!"

Although everyone had different emotions, they quickly adjusted, pretending to enjoy the party.

In reality, their eyes inadvertently swept toward the mayor, Walter, and Scott.
