Chapter 4: The Campbell family is shameless

Those who had mocked Scott earlier felt a sense of unease within.

The recent events confirmed that Scott was indeed related to ProTrade Capital, but they were unsure of his exact position.

Despite this, Mrs. Campbell dared to call her son-in-law incompetent; it was truly absurd, clearly showing that the Campbell family couldn't discern the bigger picture!

On the other side, the mayor wore a smiling face, engaging in discussions with Walter about their investment project.

Occasionally, he glanced at Scott, displaying a hint of uncertainty.

He could sense that Scott's status was certainly not low.

However, Scott was peculiar in some way, making it difficult for the mayor to figure out how to respond to him.

Overall, the conversation between the mayor and Walter seemed harmonious.

On the other hand, Scott continued to sit on the side, eating and drinking.

His eyes, as dark as ink, devoid of any light, were fixed on the mayor, revealing no hint of his thoughts.

.

Inside the official vehicle, the interior appeared somewhat outdated.

Mrs. Campbell's face was filled with anger as she grumbled, "Damn it, surely, he's just a lucky chauffeur whom he happens to favor! Yet, he dares to show off, and it's truly infuriating!"

Mrs. Campbell ranted irrationally, even starting to criticize the mayor.

Her derogatory remarks about Scott stemmed from her envy of his somehow having a connection with ProTrade Capital.

In essence, this was the dream of many companies, especially one on the brink of bankruptcy like the Campbell family's company.

Aboli glanced at her mother, choosing not to react to the bitter words.

She felt that Mrs. Campbell was truly lacking in discernment.

It was evident that Scott had changed significantly, something Aboli could sense.

He had become even more calm and aloof, his eyes almost incapable of expressing any emotions.

It remained unclear whether he deliberately staged a drama or leaving home for a year contributed to this transformation.

However, one thing Aboli could be certain of was that Scott was no longer the useless Scott from before.

He had changed, transformed into an entirely different person.

Midnight at the Campbell mansion.

Almost all the family members were gathered here at this moment.

Their family business had been plummeting since Mr. Brian, also Aboli's grandfather, the man who saved Scott's life, passed away.

At this point, they urgently needed to find an opportunity to revive their company.

The dinner tonight, organized by the mayor to welcome ProTrade Capital representatives, seemed to be that chance.

As the second-largest shareholder in the company, Aboli, chosen by Mr. Brian since childhood, had a significant role.

She had been selected to attend the dinner.

However, it seemed that she couldn't bring back what the family needed.

Aboli and Mrs. Campbell sat somewhat awkwardly on the sofa, with the other family members' eyes fixed on them, full of suspicion and unspoken reproach.

Aboli remained composed while Mrs. Campbell began to break into a cold sweat.

Frowning, she pretended to be angry and said, "It's all because of Scott. Somehow he managed to establish a connection with ProTrade Capital! If it weren't for him causing trouble, Aboli and I might have succeeded by now!"

Mrs. Campbell expressed her frustration, making it sound as if Scott were the troublemaker, not her.

Aboli, standing to the side, couldn't help but furrow her brow a bit.

In reality, the chance to collaborate with ProTrade was minimal.

Perhaps only the mayor was qualified to negotiate with ProTrade Capital representatives.

Aboli even felt that even if they weren't kicked out, considering their current company situation, ProTrade Capital representatives would never take notice of them.

However, the people in this house did not share the same perspective.

They were always overly confident in their abilities, even though none of them had any business acumen.

They behaved as if they were the only ones under the sky.

Aboli rolled her eyes but remained silent.

Right at that moment, James, Aboli's elder brother and the current head of the Campbell family, spoke up, "Actually, we can consider this a good thing. After all, Scott is still a son-in-law of the Campbell family."

Indeed, Scott had not yet signed the divorce papers.

On paper, Aboli was still Scott's wife, and Scott was still their son-in-law.

Almost as soon as James finished speaking, Mrs. Campbell immediately grasped the idea.

Her eyes lit up with cunning and sinister light. She hastily said, "I understand now. Tomorrow, I will call him. Surely, we can establish a relationship with ProTrade Capital!"

James smiled contentedly, and their conversation ended.

The following day, in a presidential suite at the A.J. Hotel.

The ringing of the telephone echoed through the room, causing a headache just by listening.

Scott, who was sleeping, suddenly woke up, his eyes flashing with anger, the veins on his forehead bulging as if he could kill someone at any moment.

His head was pounding as if it could crack open.

The consequences of years of being imprisoned resurfaced, making him want to find something and release his anger.

However, he just clenched his fist and lay on the bed until he regained his composure.

He frowned slightly, then slowly got out of bed, his cold eyes picking up the phone and answering the call.

Without waiting for him to speak, a disgusted female voice echoed, "Scott, right? If you're back, you should visit your grandfather to show some respect. After all, shouldn't you come home at least once?"

Scott remained silent, and the person on the other end of the line just chuckled coldly before hanging up.

Mrs. Campbell clearly understood Scott's respect for his grandfather; surely, he would return home without much persuasion.

Scott stared at the dark phone screen, his deep, ink-black eyes resembling a profound abyss.

He recalled the events from a year ago when Mrs. Campbell and her second daughter, Elly, schemed to sabotage him, causing Aboli to believe he had betrayed her with Elly.

Aboli, without hearing Scott's explanation, had been utterly disappointed in him.

At that time, their divorce proceedings were nearly complete.

However, due to this incident, Scott was directly expelled from the Campbell house and treated like a stranger.

Scott thought that after being ousted for so long, the Campbell family must have figured out a way to legally sever his marital relationship with Aboli.

Unexpectedly, everything remained unchanged until now.

It seemed he needed to quickly resolve this matter.

Scott was determined to repay the Campbell family for what Mr. Brian had done for him during his most difficult times.

However, he had no intention of truly becoming a son-in-law of the Campbell family.

Apart from Mr. Brian and Aboli, the Campbell family, in his eyes, was nothing more than a horde of parasites living off the wealth and prestige that Mr. Brian had built.

Referring to them as a blood-sucking swarm wouldn't be far from the truth.

Scott washed his face and changed into a new outfit, nothing fancy – a black shirt and pants, along with a black windbreaker.

Apart from being a new set of clothes, his appearance wasn't much different from the day before.

His jet-black hair fell casually, only combed through once, without any particular styling.

Nevertheless, Scott's demeanor and aura could easily overwhelm countless others.

He put on the windbreaker and walked out, not bothering to glance at himself in the mirror even for a moment.

Clearly, he was someone not keen on grooming himself.
