The sun dipped low over Cresthaven, casting long shadows across the city streets as Kai drove through the quieter outskirts of town. His mind wasn’t on the road.

It was on Abigail.

He had tried calling her again.

No answer.

His jaw tightened slightly, knuckles flexing around the steering wheel. His instincts told him she was safe...at least physically but upset. Angry. And for the life of him, he couldn’t understand why. What exactly had he done wrong?

“She could’ve just yelled at me right there…” he muttered under his breath, eyes narrowing at the thought. “But no, she had to storm off.”

Kai exhaled, forcing himself to calm down, though the knot in his chest wouldn’t ease.

“Women,” he sighed. “Can’t they just say what they’re pissed about?”

As the car glided down the near-empty stretch of road, something pricked at the back of his neck. His eyes sharpened.

Ahead, three sleek black luxury cars, Bentley Mulsannes, swerved out from a side street, forming a blockade across the road.

"You... you bastard!" Vivian was terrified. When did Kai become so strong? She quietly stepped back, hoping to lock Kai and Sage outside, to protect herself. But the next moment, Kai kicked the door open, bracing it with his firm arm before it could close. "Give it to me," he said, his voice cold and impatient. "Or do you want me to take it myself?" "Get away!" Vivian screamed, clutching the necklace tightly. "This necklace is mine! I'll die before I give it to you!" "You fucker!" Sage spat blood, a tooth falling from his mouth. Damn it, Kai! He definitely did this on purpose!"You're looking for death!" Sage struggled to rise, his fury building as he yelled at Kai. "Come on, you bastard! Show me what you learned from your whore mother!" • 32: The Arrival and the Ambush

The glass doors to the VIP terminal gleamed under the sunlight as Kai and Abigail stood waiting quietly near the roped-off area. Abigail was practically bouncing in place, her eyes locked on the arrival screen like it held the secrets to life.“She’s really coming,” she whispered for the fifth time, her voice filled with nerves and admiration.Kai glanced at her, then looked ahead again, calm as always. “You’re shaking like you’re about to meet your future husband. • 30: From Suit to Soap

Inside the cold, gray walls of the prison, Conrad Lin and Reginald Thompson stumbled forward like two deflated balloons, dragged by the warden who looked more bored than bothered. Their designer suits had been replaced with dull orange uniforms that hung on them like shame itself, and their faces… Well, their faces looked like punching bags had finally found something to hit back."Cell 9," the warden grunted, unlocking the gate. "Maybe you two will last longer here than you did in Cell 6."Reginald’s lip was still bleeding from a tooth that had met its untimely end hours ago. Whatever was wrong with her, it wasn’t normal.“You need to get yourself checked,” he said, his voice flat but heavy with certainty.Emily blinked, caught off guard. Her expression wavered between confusion and irritation. “Excuse me?”Abigail’s brows furrowed as she looked between them. Kai rarely spoke, let alone this seriously. His words weren’t casual. They were final, almost like a sentence handed down by someone who’d already seen the end. “Kai… what’s going on?”He didn’t answer her directly. His eyes stayed fixed on Emily.“There’s something wrong with your internal energy flow. Your vital points are unstable, especially near your chest and spine. I saw it.”Emily’s brows furrowed. “What are you even talking about? Are you one of those scam psychics?”Kai’s face didn’t shift. “You’ve had night sweats
