Chapter 32

A loud chatter from far away chiseled into Doctor Haishi’s ears. His eyes overcame their shyness and let themselves open up gradually.

They were in the woods. Light beamed from three tents, while some people slept on the ground and he could see two men standing, mugs in hand.

The fresh bones left to the ground to feed on, cups rolling in rhythm to the waves of new beats the wind produced, and the crackling fires that introduced to his nostrils, a sudden feeling and a new desire, all suggested a possible feast had gone down.

Doctor Haishi groaned as he made to stand. His body felt overweight and restricted. He was lucky people came to his rescue before the snake had kissed him.

He hated snakes, right from when he was a little boy. Why did they always have to move deceitfully? And what was the need for their tongues to taste the air? His hatred for the cunning beasts extended to its whole family of reptiles.
