Chapter 4, Enraged Angel.

Elias fully knew the terror of a mage, especially when they ain’t trying to raise you into an outstanding adult, so he didn’t even wait for the shop owner to even finish screaming before he once more grabbed the cloaked girl and bolted towards the old clock tower, Elias knew full well that getting to a high vantage point will allow Angel to instantaneously spot him from anywhere in the city, as for how she does it, he didn’t really know but somehow she does and that was all the comfort he needed at the moment.

The stairs of the old clock tower were weak and worn out, Stepping on the wrong place could immediately send someone down several feet’s to their graves, naturally Elias already mastered the exact pattern needed to reach the top but you can’t say the same for the fragile little girl besides him.

Elias didn’t wait to ask for permission, this wasn’t a cliche mid nineteenth century romcom, he immediately proceeded to carry her in a princess position and began hopping from stair to stair trying desperately to reach the top before he’s pepper dust bomb looses its effects.

......

Erika received her bag of groceries and started to walk out of the market with Angel, the streets were crowded so they were pretty close to each other, of course they didn’t mind and it even helped them soothe their nostalgia.

“Angel, you’ve changed, the strong fearsome presence around you seems to have vanished”. If Elias was here he’ll jump up and proceed to slap the shit out of Erika after saying such bullshit, Angel is literally the definition of fearsome and now you telling me she’s soft, then how hard was she before?.

“Oh, well it’s probably because I have someone now”. Angel said while blushing, but this only created a misunderstanding between her and her old friend.

~So she’s got a man already’, Erika silently thought to herself, “at least she’s leading a good life, if only...’. Erika sighed inwardly.

“So why did you come to see me?”. Angel inquired with an ambiguous smile on her face.

“You knew eh”.

“You weren’t exactly trying to hide your presence, also you were clearly trying to draw me in while avoiding the notice of other mages, hence the crowded location, only someone like me can instantly pinpoint you in such a dense crowd”.

Erika smiled passionately, clearly impressed and glad she met her expectations of her. “Your senses had always been sharper than most mages to begin with. Angel, when I first met you I didn’t really think much of you, you seemed like one of those conceited talents in the academy that relied on magic to get by, that was until I knew the true you, the crazy fun lightning mage that wasn’t scared of anything, you were brave and strong, stronger than I can ever hope to be, you were- you were”.

“I was your best friend”. Angel completed the sentence.

“Yes you were”. Erika said with a smile. “And that’s why am here to warn you”.

“Warn me”. Angel repeated after her.

Erika’s expression immediately became grim.” Remember operation noblest gift, “yeah”. ‘ the new mother of the empire wants to make sure all related issues accompanied by that operation disappears from the world, and that includes us, surely you should have noticed the increase in mages activity around the city, those guys are here for you Angel”.

“All of them just for one person, isn’t that a bit over kill“. Angel said with a raised brow.

“Maybe for others yes, but for you no, you specify in lightning arts, killing you isn’t easy to begin with and keeping you in a place you don’t want to be in is almost impossible. also, you are you”.

Angel thought for a moment, clearly she’s considering this quite deeply. “Sorry I can’t, even if I leave she’ll just send powerful mages after me, but if I stay in the city she’ll hesitant to attack me in the open, that’s if she doesn’t want half the city raised to the ground by a clash between mages. Besides, I don’t think you’re leaving as well, but thank you for taking the risk to come here though”.

“It’s nothing at all. Also yes, I won’t be leaving the empire, I’ll take cover in the academy working as a lecturer for the time being, killing mages isn’t as easy as the queen thinks”. Erika finished with an arrogant snort.

Angel smiled warmly, but suddenly her expression darkened and dreadful killing intent began to immerse her petite figure, the birds flying in the sky immediately evaded her air space, the surrounding people felt a cold like chill around them, but they just thought it was as a result of the cold drizzle, only Erika that stood besides Angel understood the terror of what was happening.

“No wait”. Erika yelled, but it was simply too late, Angel had already vanished, the dazzling golden radiance was nowhere to be seen this time around, she simply moved too fast for the light to catch up.

......

“You’re dead kid”.

Elias was stoped dead in his tracks by a dark clothed individual, the person had a red dust like substance over their face which was the primary reason for the immense killing intent that’s currently being directed at the fourteen year old.

“Careful now, the last person that said that to me got his ass handed to him in two seconds”. Elias replied, but of course the assailant didn’t pay attention to it. after all, he was a grand mage, how can a low life thug compare to himself, but he still inwardly complemented Elias for his bravery, but he quickly changed he’s mind and just decided that Elias is either an idiot, or really ignorant of what a mage can do.
