Three

Miles's Chief mechanic and the crew didn't hesitate to get to work and repair the quick issue with the car, leaving Miles to battle his problems.

"Layla, today is our 2nd year anniversary. And you're doing this to me?" Miles pleaded stepping forward to touch Layla's hand.

Layla only drew away from Miles like he carried a virus. "2nd year what?!" Miles could hear ask irritatedly.

Miles couldn't believe his wife didn't remember that two years ago today was when they became man and woman. He looked down at her fingers and noticed she didn't have her wedding ring on, she never did. It just occurred to Miles that Layla had already placed their marriage on the back burner and she was now throwing it at his face, expecting him to accept it.

Miles put his hands into his overall and pulled out the $40 he had planned to buy a cake and a necklace with for what was meant to be their special night. "I was going to buy you a cake and a beautiful necklace, Layla," he said, displaying the $20 bills. "I've always heard you talking to ma that you loved necklaces."

Layla's gaze rested on the two dollar bills and she gave an ironical laughter, folding her arms. "Are you stupid, Miles? Who spends $40 alone on his wife?"

Miles mouth was left open in bewilderment as he watched Layla walk past him and stand before Derek who embraced her waist. "We were just coming back from a $10,000 meal and you expect me jubilate because of your measly $40?!" Layla thundered.

Just as Miles had expected, it was all about money and fame. Layla was an ambitious lady. He knows this because he was only married to her so she could get her first high paying job. Now she's aspiring for greater heights and Miles now knew he was only still her husband so she could still keep her current job.

Miles felt tears escape his eyes as Layla inquired if the mechanics were done with the work.

Miles felt he couldn't just let his wife slip away from his arms, no man will let that. She was still his wife and there are certain duties and responsibilities the both of them agreed on while in front of the priest.

If money was the matter, Layla should give him a few more months. He was sure he could do better and be that providing man she wanted.

Miles really loved Layla and he was willing to get on his knees and beg if that was all it needed. Miles moved forward again, bringing forth his hands to touch her. But this time, Derek left his spot and stood in front of Miles.

It didn't matter to Derek if this lowlife was her husband. He found the woman outstandingly alluring and now she was his. "You heard her buddy. Now get the hell outta here, she doesn't deserve a handout like you," Derek hissed, aggravating Miles's pain.

Miles ignored Derek with a deadly glare and proceeded to keep begging Layla when Derek shoved him backwards, tired of his pestering.

At that moment, Miles completely lost it. Anger flared in his eyes and he directed the anger to his arms, pushing Derek in return.

Their little hassle was causing a scene as passing vehicles and passers-by stopped to find out why the well-known and famous Derek Aston would be in an argument with such a scandal that came to repair his car.

The crowd attracted didn't bother Miles. He was determined to fight Derek as the both of them started to exchange blows.

Miles was confident he could defeat Derek and any fight he came across even though he rarely fought. He has been a mechanic for several years as soon as he left school where he was working numerous strenuous jobs and that has developed his physicality.

But to Miles surprise, he was on the losing end of this battle. He had thought Derek's huge stature was all a facade and he was just another believer of the money can solve anything doctrine.

This only fueled Miles's anger because he was not willing to lose in front of Layla which would mean that he was also useless when it came to physical battle. The fight became rough and was a two-way fire and the watching people feared that someone may end up severely hurt.

The people including Miles's colleagues who were done repairing the car, helped in separating the two fighting men while Layla was already dialing the police with Derek's phone.

Derek Ashton is a powerful figure in the city and the police wouldn't hesitate to attend to his needs even though he was the one at fault.

Layla and Derek hurriedly got into the car after paying while Miles was being pulled away. But Miles still didn't give up! He pushed through and ran to the car, banging on Layla's window.

The engine of the car was turned on and the car started to move, but Miles kept on following it, yelling Layla's name as she refused to glare in his direction.

Derek was annoyed by Miles presence outside his car that on reaching a turn on the road, he deliberately made a swift turn, striking Miles down and the back tires of the car rolled over and crushed Miles's legs.

Layla looked at Derek with a surprised face as the cry of Miles was loud enough to be heard even with their windows raised shut. However, Derek didn't stop driving, he zoomed away.

Miles lay on the tarred road, screaming in agony while his colleagues rushed to his aid. They couldn't do anything, his legs were severely damaged and the watching audience had started to go away, ignoring Miles's state. None of them would like to bear witness against Derek Ashton.

But to Miles's favour, the sound of sirens started to approach.
