Chapter 5

Alex stretches his body, preparing to sit back on his bed and gather his thoughts.

"Was last night just a dream? It's impossible for me to have become that strong," Alex murmurs, a bewildered smile on his face.

He still can't believe what happened last night, how Angga and Adam ran away in a panic. It's usually Alex who acts that way, not them.

Alex takes a deep breath, his hands reaching up to massage his temples, trying to alleviate the lingering confusion.

"Come on, Alex! You need to start a new day with new activities!" he encourages himself. He then throws back the covers that were previously covering his body.

Somehow, Alex's gaze is spontaneously drawn to the lonely gadget resting on the table. The screen of the gadget remains lifeless, just as he saw it last.

Alex had disposed of the box and the letter that came with the gadget yesterday. He doesn't understand why he left the gadget behind while getting rid of the other items.

He considers the gadget to be a reminder of how foolish he was. From now on, Alex truly doesn't want to appear foolish in front of anyone anymore. Regardless of the risks involved in the changes he wants to make, he doesn't care.

The most important thing is for him to become a better person.

Alex straightens his body and takes steps toward the table where the futuristic gadget is placed.

"I thought you would function and be something I could be proud of. But why did you have to die like this? Is it me who can't figure out how to use you? It's strange, but oh well, maybe it's true that this gadget was sent by someone who wanted to play a prank on me."

Alex sighs in resignation. His hand reaches out to pick up the gadget and places it in the drawer near his bed.

Alex continues his stride towards the back of his room to grab the blue towel he owns.

"Stay motivated, Alex! You can do your best today!" Alex suggests to himself.

He then opens the door to his bathroom, entering to perform his morning ritual.

"Alright, all set."

Alex develops a warm smile. He appears pleased with his current appearance.

At least, for today, there is a much fresher and calmer feeling within him. Unlike a few days ago, when Alex constantly felt sad and had intentions of ending his life.

He reaches out his hand to the table in front of him, grabs his wristwatch, and fastens it on his left arm.

"I still have about 45 minutes before the start of my work shift. What should I have for breakfast? Hmm... I better grab some food before heading to the office."

Alex provides a solution to himself. He then slings his shoulder bag, which has been his companion since his first day of work.

Not once has he changed his shoulder bag.

"Alright, I'm ready. Just need to head to work and maybe stop by one of the food stalls. Stay motivated! Stay motivated!"

Alex walks out, locking his apartment door for security.

With a faint smile on his face, Alex walks towards the parking area of his apartment to retrieve his bicycle.

"Good morning, sir!" Alex greets the security guard stationed there.

The security guard, who sees Alex greeting him for the first time, seems taken aback. He nods his head in an odd rhythm.

"Hmm... Good morning!" the security guard replies, but by the time Alex is further away from his position.

"I'm not dreaming, am I? Mr. Alex never greeted me during his stay here. He would always pass by with his head down. But now? Ah, maybe he's just in a better mood today."

The security guard continues to hold a positive assumption.

Today, Alex truly feels much better.

Alex also doesn't understand where the constant motivation is coming from.

He looks around, the cool morning air keeping his smile intact.

He feels so peaceful, experiencing the calmness of the still uncrowded morning.

Alex then stops his bicycle just as he is about to pass by a street food cart selling porridge.

"One, please, sir!" Alex orders from the elderly man.

The man raises his thumb, acknowledging Alex's order.

As luck would have it, there are no other customers at that moment, allowing the vendor to quickly prepare Alex's order.

"Here you go, sir. That'll be 10,000 rupees," the vendor says.

Alex nods, handing over the requested amount.

"Thank you very much, sir!"

Alex responded, causing the man to raise his thumb again.

Alex took a deep breath, a smile once again appearing on his face. He glanced at the watch adorning his left wrist.

"I still have 30 minutes. So, I don't need to rush to get there."

Alex hung the white plastic bag containing his porridge on the left handlebar of his bike.

"Let's go!" Alex murmured before he started pedaling again.

Occasionally glancing to the right and left, Alex now appeared much better than before.

There was one thing Alex hoped for when he arrived at his workplace. Hopefully, when faced with the bullies, he would be strong enough. No longer would he bow down and accept their bullying without resistance.

Alex parked his bike in the designated employee parking area, where all the vehicles were motorcycles. His bike was the only one that stood out, being a bicycle.

"Well, that's life, Alex. Not everything has to be the same, right? Having a bike, even if it's not fancy, is something to be grateful for. At least I can save the money I would spend on bus fare and use it for other things."

Alex chuckled, laughing at himself.

Here he was, with a problem, but he was also the one providing a solution.

Alex gathered his resolve before taking his steps to enter the office where he worked.

One thing that made Alex feel strange and awkward was when he first set foot into the office space. The once vibrant conversations and laughter suddenly fell silent. It didn't escape his notice that people began whispering and pointing at him. Through the corner of his eye, he could see the fear in their faces as they looked at him.

Alex took another deep breath.

"Let it go. Besides, this has been happening for a while, hasn't it? What do I have to fear from them? You made a promise to yourself, Alex, to embrace change for this day."

Alex reassured himself and continued walking towards his desk, his eyes fully open now. He took his steps and stopped right where his chair was placed. Alex set down the bowl of porridge he bought along with his shoulder bag.

From the corner of his eye, Alex could see Bayu looking conflicted. He couldn't understand the indiscernible expression on Bayu's face, which seemed perfectly displayed at the moment.

"Argh! Enough! I don't believe any of your words!" Alex exclaimed.

Bayu stood up from his seat and walked decisively towards Alex.

"What's going on?" Bayu flinched before reaching Alex, who had turned his chair to face him.

However, to conceal his surprise, Bayu cleared his throat for a moment, trying to shake off his nervousness.

"I can't believe what people have been saying. Is it true that you dared to slam Angga in front of the food stall last night?" Bayu asked, his piercing gaze trying to decipher the truth.

Alex fell silent, seemingly ignoring every word uttered by his interlocutor.

From behind Bayu, a man, Adam, attempted to intervene and stop Bayu.

"Enough, Bayu. You don't need to mess with him. I've already told you. He's a devil incarnate. He can do anything he wants now because he has a devil assistant. It's better if you apologize now before you end up dead in his hands."

Bayu brushed off Adam's attempt to stop him.

"Iblis? Cut the nonsense. Besides, we've been bullying him all this time, and nothing ever happened. He's just a weak person. Not worth our sympathy," Bayu retorted.

Alex's hand clenched, feeling disgusted by the disrespectful words of those people.

Thud!

Spontaneously, Alex slammed the table at his workstation.

Bayu seemed momentarily startled by Alex's uncharacteristic behavior.

Bayu tried his best to control his facial expression, concealing his irritation.

"I mean... I'm sorry... I..." Alex stammered. He couldn't understand why he had acted that way.

Bayu now wore a smug smile.

"See, I told you. Someone like him would never dare to snap at me. He can't put up any resistance!" Bayu belittled his interlocutor.

Bayu then stepped forward, approaching the now lowered head of Alex. He sarcastically nudged Alex's right shoulder.

"A clown entertainer like you will forever remain the same. You'll never change into a normal human being."

Bayu uttered his hurtful words.

A strong fist was visible in Alex's right hand.

"Not everyone will always be the same as before, Bayu!"

Alex gently pushed Bayu's shoulder, keeping him at a distance from his own body.

However, the unexpected happened. Bayu's body suddenly catapulted far away. Just like what had happened to Angga the previous night.

All eyes gazed in disbelief at the scene unfolding before them. Many of them struggled to suppress their astonishment.

Just as Bayu was about to rise and retaliate against Alex's actions, the authoritative voices of two individuals in the office silenced everyone. The employees hurriedly made their way back to their desks.

"If you can't even handle this, how will you handle the upcoming meeting, Ansel!"

Director Kim, with a disappointed and angry expression, approached the designated area for the lower-level employees.

Ansel's face showed signs of distress as he conversed with the director.

"Well, that's not what I meant, sir. I just have stage fright, that's all. I believe once we're inside the meeting room, I'll perform better, sir. I promise!" Ansel attempted to persuade the director.

Currently, Director Kim was discussing the upcoming meeting that would take place in the near future.

About 20 minutes remained until their meeting was scheduled to begin, and the manager appeared to be struggling to provide an explanation.

"Even in front of me, you're not focused, Ansel. How can I trust you?" Director Kim rubbed his temples in frustration.

"Here's what we'll do. Explain to me how we can promote our products using the commonly seen methods nowadays. Try to explain it to me," Director Kim challenged Ansel.

With many eyes in the room fixed upon him, Ansel grew nervous, realizing that his current position was at stake.

Meanwhile, at a nearby desk, Alex reflexively stood up and spoke.

"Considering the current trends, one effective way to promote our products is through social media. One platform that has been particularly beneficial is TikTok, sir. Many sellers have achieved significant profits by leveraging the app's user reviews."

All eyes were now fixed on Alex, particularly Director Kim, who scrutinized the ordinary employee closely.

"You?"

Alex nodded respectfully. "I am Alex Thomson, a technician in the marketing department. I have been working here for over 7 months."

Director Kim approached Alex, leaving Manager Ansel without saying a word.

"Are you confident in the method you just mentioned? Can you provide more specific details?" Director Kim asked as he stood near Alex.

"I am very confident, sir. We can collaborate with TikTok influencers who have a large number of followers. Additionally, we can create our own TikTok account and host live sessions. According to the latest data, many sellers have earned profits of up to millions in a single live session."

Alex couldn't understand how his mouth suddenly spoke so fluently. Clearly, he had never studied or learned about the topic before. It seemed as though the words were flowing out without his control.

"Very well. I am satisfied. Alex Thomson, please prepare yourself. I entrust you with this meeting. Starting today, you will be promoted to my personal assistant."

Everyone's eyes widened upon hearing the news. They were already surprised by Alex's newfound strength, and now he had shocked them again with his promotion.

"We have 15 minutes left until the meeting. Please prepare everything. Study this material quickly. Be in the meeting room 5 minutes before the scheduled time. Alright!"

Director Kim briefly patted Alex's shoulder before walking away, leaving all the employees, including Alex, still in disbelief about what they had just heard.

"Personal assistant? Is this even possible?" Alex murmured, seemingly unable to believe what he had just heard.
