Chapter 6

Alex was still puzzled by the recent turn of events. Accepting the position as Director Kim's personal assistant was something that had never crossed his mind before. A mix of happiness and nervousness overwhelmed him. Nevertheless, he knew that this was a significant opportunity for him to prove his capabilities.

Not wanting to waste any time, Alex immediately set about preparing everything. He diligently noted down all the instructions given by Director Kim and promptly studied the topics that would be discussed in the meeting. Alex was filled with enthusiasm and committed to giving his best in this opportunity.

He ignored the puzzled gazes of all the employees staring at him. Alex didn't care about that at all; the most important thing now was that he would be leaving the toxic environment of being in the same room with them. No one would disturb him anymore because he was moving to a new position as Director Kim's personal assistant.

Time flew by, and the time for the meeting arrived. Alex stood confidently in front of the meeting room filled with executives and managers. Their anxious faces seemed to question Director Kim's choice to make Alex his personal assistant. However, Alex paid no attention to their looks. He was ready to prove himself. Somehow, the confidence came from within, and one thing was certain: Alex would not let this opportunity go to waste.

During his presentation, Alex smoothly conveyed his ideas about expanding promotions through social media platforms, especially Tiktok. He provided successful examples of other businesses that had utilized this strategy, along with implementation steps that could be taken by their company.

Everyone was impressed with Alex's presentation. His self-assuredness and profound knowledge of social media convinced them that this idea deserved consideration. Even Director Kim himself seemed impressed.

"Excellent job, Alex. You've proven that you deserve this position," said Director Kim with a smile.

"Thank you, sir. I will do my best as your personal assistant," Alex humbly replied.

Meanwhile, in the employees' room, Bayu, who couldn't accept everything that had happened this morning, approached some employees who were whispering about Alex being appointed as a personal assistant.

"How could this happen? I'm really puzzled. Alex has always been our clown, never even raised his head, and suddenly he stands up arrogantly and takes over everything."

Bayu was certainly not happy with all of this, especially after Alex pushed him far away.

"I told you, didn't I? It seems like Alex has a demon helping him, just look at Angga yesterday, he got pushed away too, and the same happened to you," Adam expressed what he thought was true.

"These days, there's no such thing, you're exaggerating the situation. Maybe Alex secretly learned self-defense," Lisa chimed in, pulling a chair while looking at Bayu, who seemed to still be in pain.

"I agree with my sweetheart, no way that's possible," Bayu said, approaching Lisa and receiving her nod.

"How could it be? You all know, right? Alex couldn't possibly have the time to do all that, I'm still convinced he has a demon by his side," Adam stuck to his opinion, believing that there must be something else that enabled Alex to do such things with just a gentle push.

"We should find out the truth. I won't accept Alex suddenly becoming Director Kim's personal assistant. Then who will be the clown around here?" Bayu said, making everyone laugh, and some shook their heads at his thoughts.

"Alright, alright, you should all get back to your desks," Ansel said. His expression was not far different from Bayu's, clearly irritated as he didn't get to do the presentation, and Alex took over instead.

As a manager, his position was now threatened. Even though Alex was appointed as Director Kim's personal assistant, Ansel feared that he might be demoted for failing in his duties.

"I'm sure you're also annoyed with Alex's behavior, right, Mr. Ansel? How could he dare to take over your position for the presentation?" Bayu remarked.

It seems that Bayu wants to instigate Ansel to bear a grudge against Alex, so he says something that makes Ansel nod in agreement.

"Of course, how dare that nerd take my position for the presentation. Just wait, I won't let Alex live peacefully after this."

Ansel's eyes turn red, indicating his anger towards someone who has hurt and humiliated him.

Bayu smirks, knowing that Ansel's resentment towards Alex is growing stronger after hearing his words.

A few moments later, the person they were discussing enters the room and gazes at all the employees who are now looking at him.

Alex swallows his pride, knowing he will be the center of attention when he walks into the room. Actually, he doesn't want to return to that place, but since his belongings are still on his desk, he is forced to go back and move them to the room prepared by Director Kim.

"I just want to tidy up my things," Alex says as he walks past a group of employees. Instead of working and going back to their places, the employees gather and Alex knows they are probably talking about him.

"Well, well... now you're trying to show off in front of us, huh?"

Bayu, who wants to approach and teach Alex a lesson, is stopped by Ansel, so he halts and lets Alex go without any confrontation, even though Alex is just organizing things that are not very important.

"In that case, excuse me, sir," Alex bows slightly towards Ansel, who merely nods his head and lets Alex leave the room.

"Why did Mr. Ansel stop me? I wanted to give him a piece of my mind," Bayu says after Alex has left the room.

"Bayu, do you want to get into trouble again?" Adam retorts, earning a sharp look from Bayu.

"We have to play it smart, no violence allowed," Ansel finally speaks up.

Lisa, who is still sitting in one of the chairs there, nods in agreement. She then approaches Bayu and gently pats his shoulder.

"What Mr. Ansel said is true. We need to play it smart, and we should also find out since when Alex has been studying martial arts."

"I've told you before, Alex..."

"Enough, Adam! Nowadays, there's no such thing as using demons. Stop making up stories like that," Lisa said irritably. She was frustrated because Adam kept linking this matter to demonic powers.

"Fine, then."

Adam returned to his own desk, not caring whether the other employees believed him or not. He was convinced that Alex was using a demon to grant him powers.

"Never mind, don't listen to Adam's words. Let's focus on making a plan," Lisa said, and Bayu nodded in agreement.

They gathered again to discuss something that Alex, currently heading to his new office adjacent to Director Kim's room, couldn't hear.

"Am I dreaming?" Alex mumbled in amazement, staring at the new office space.

"Ouch, it hurts!" he exclaimed with a suppressed voice so that no one outside could hear him.

To verify if it was a dream, Alex pinched his hand, and indeed, he felt the pain caused by his silly action.

"What kind of dream is this? Could it be related to the gadget I found?"

Alex was still trying to make sense of the situation, something he had never imagined before. All he wanted was to avoid being bullied by some people, but this was an unexpected miracle.

"I can't wait to go home," he whispered.

Alex then sat down in a large chair, wanting to share his happiness with his mother. He planned to call her once he reached his apartment.

Still in disbelief, Alex continued to look around in astonishment until suddenly someone entered the room without knocking—none other than Director Kim, a person who always entered without hesitation.

"Excuse me, sir," Alex said softly.

Director Kim nodded, his gaze sweeping across the room.

"So, Alex, do you like your new office?"

Quickly, Alex nodded, "Of course, sir. This is a position I never imagined before," he replied, heart still pounding. He was startled by Director Kim's sudden presence, as the director entered without knocking.

"Alright then, work well, and always pick up the phone when I call you," Director Kim said, looking at the phone on Alex's desk.

"Yes, sir."

Director Kim left Alex's office, and Alex took a deep breath to calm himself.

Time passed quickly, and Alex, eager to return to his apartment, quickly finished the work he had been doing.

Curiosity about today's events made Alex really want to get home. He rode his old bike and finally arrived at his affordable apartment in Jakarta.

Without looking around, Alex rushed and pressed a button that would take him to his apartment.

This raised some questions in the security guard's mind. Earlier in the morning, Alex was very friendly, but in the afternoon, he seemed to ignore him, though not in a disrespectful way.

"I must get there quickly. I'm sure this is related to the gadget," Alex said, tapping his work bag with his fingers.

Ding!

Finally, the elevator door opened, and Alex quickly headed to his apartment, entering the passcode to get in.

"Where is the gadget? Why isn't it in its place anymore?"
