Chapter 7

Alex's heart was pounding rapidly as he saw the gadget he believed was on the table suddenly disappear.

Alex felt increasingly puzzled. He searched for the whereabouts of the gadget, which was the key to all of these events, but couldn't find it in his apartment. Restlessness and curiosity made him more and more distressed.

"I'm sure I placed the gadget on the table," Alex said while continuing to look for the device he accidentally obtained in front of his apartment door.

Alex wandered through the rooms in his apartment, from the bedroom to the bathroom, but the gadget was clearly nowhere to be found.

"How could it just vanish like that? Did I forget to move it?" Alex mumbled as he rubbed his forehead, which was now starting to ache.

Alex tried to rack his brain to find answers to this oddity. Could it be possible that someone else entered his apartment and took the gadget? But how could anyone know about the gadget?

The more Alex thought about the gadget, the more he felt dizzy. Something he clearly left on the table before leaving the apartment suddenly disappeared after he returned.

Not wanting to keep pondering about this alone, Alex decided to leave the apartment and go downstairs. His goal was to meet the security guard stationed in the apartment complex, seeking assurance whether someone had entered his apartment or not, so that he wouldn't be left in perpetual confusion.

"Good afternoon, sir," greeted Alex when he arrived at the security post.

"Afternoon, Mas Alex," the security guard greeted back, taken aback by the unusual behavior of the resident who had lived in the apartment complex for several months.

"Can I help you with something, sir?" the security guard asked after seeing the unfamiliar expression on the man's face.

Alex quickly nodded, not wanting to waste time with small talk.

"Sir, has anyone entered my apartment?"

The security guard frowned; it was evident that since morning until now, no new person had entered or exited the apartment he was guarding.

"No, Sir. Is something missing?" the security guard asked.

"Well... may I see the CCTV footage in front of my door?" Alex replied.

Apparently, Alex didn't believe the security guard's words, so he chose to verify it himself. After all, the security guard could have gone to the restroom, and someone might have entered without being noticed.

"Of course, Sir. Please, follow me."

Without any objections, the security guard led Alex to the room where the CCTV monitors were. Surprisingly, the security guard didn't seem upset with Alex's request, despite Alex's doubts about his vigilance.

"Just a moment, Sir. Let me adjust the time and date."

Alex nodded, his gaze wandering over the various CCTV screens in the room. The apartment complex didn't have too many residents, so they didn't need to place cameras in less critical areas.

"Take a look for yourself, Mas Alex," the security guard said after matching the date and time on the CCTV.

Again, Alex nodded, his focus on a screen showing himself leaving the apartment to go to work and then fast-forwarding to his return from work. Clearly, no one had entered his apartment.

"How is this possible?" Alex whispered softly.

"What is it, Sir? Did you find someone entering your apartment?" the security guard asked.

Alex shook his head weakly, "No, sir. There was no one who entered my apartment."

The security guard let out a sigh of relief. It meant that the apartment was genuinely secure under his watch.

"I'm sorry, Sir, for bothering you," Alex finally said.

It seems like Alex feels guilty and uncomfortable because he didn't believe the security guard's statement, but how could the gadget disappear?

"No worries, Mas Alex, it's my responsibility. But, did you lose any belongings, Mas Alex?"

Quickly, Alex shook his head, feeling like the security guard wouldn't believe him if he told everything.

"No, Sir, there's nothing missing. I was just curious if someone went to my apartment or not. Well then, if you excuse me, Sir."

Without waiting for a response from the security guard, Alex hurriedly left the CCTV room; he didn't want the guard to ask more questions that could lead him to slip up.

"How could there be no one who entered the apartment? Then, where did the gadget disappear to?"

Alex walked back to the apartment feeling weak, for some reason, his enthusiasm suddenly vanished along with the gadget he couldn't find.

Alex walked while daydreaming until suddenly he collided with someone who was about to enter the elevator.

Crash!

"Ow!" yelped the person Alex bumped into.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Miss, I really apologize."

Alex tried to help the person he accidentally bumped into. The guilt of making someone fall made him feel uncomfortable.

"It's okay, Mas, next time, try wearing glasses when you walk."

Dang!

Alex was startled when he heard a voice that sounded so familiar to him. It seemed like Alex had heard that voice before.

"Lisa?"

The woman, named Lisa, covered her mouth with both hands. She was also surprised to see who was standing in front of her.

"Alex, how come you're here?"

Lisa still couldn't hide her astonishment. Moving to this cheap apartment, she didn't expect to encounter the man who was her boyfriend's enemy at the office.

"I've been living here for a while. What about you? Are you planning to stay here?"

Alex tried to observe Lisa carefully, unable to believe that she had moved to this apartment. After all, Lisa was the child of a wealthy person, so how could she move to this apartment? Was Lisa not a wealthy person's daughter?

It was impossible for Lisa not to move to this apartment, considering the two suitcases neatly lined up next to her.

"You don't need to know!" Lisa said sharply. She entered the elevator first, carrying two suitcases in her right and left hands.

Alex could only sigh as he watched her. He shouldn't have asked Lisa, considering he knew her behavior well.

Not wanting to miss the elevator that would take him upstairs, Alex entered the lift where Lisa shot him an irritated look for following her. Although Lisa didn't want to share the elevator with Alex, she couldn't stop him from entering.

Silence fell between them, with neither saying a word as they both focused on staring ahead, as if they were strangers.

Ding!

The elevator doors opened, and Lisa quickly exited first, searching for the apartment number that matched the key she was holding.

"Why are you following me?" Lisa snapped when she stood in front of apartment 305. Meanwhile, Alex now stood beside her, making Lisa suspicious that he was stalking her.

"This is my apartment," Alex said as he pressed a few numbers to open his apartment door.

"Damn it! Why do I have to live next to that clown?" Lisa grumbled as she saw Alex enter apartment 306.

"It seems like a really unlucky day for me," Lisa said, starting to enter her apartment's password.

Inside the apartment, Alex took a deep breath and exhaled heavily.

"Why do I have to live next to Lisa?" Alex murmured as he walked weakly.

"It seems like my life won't be as lucky as it was this morning. Bayu will probably come to this apartment frequently to see Lisa."

Alex dropped his body onto the bed, imagining his unlucky days ahead after Lisa moved in.

Currently, Alex seemed to forget about the gadget he had been searching for earlier, even going to the CCTV room. Lisa's arrival in the neighboring apartment had such an impact on Alex that he forgot the purpose of leaving his apartment in the first place.

As Alex was about to close his eyes, suddenly, there was a voice in the air that made him open his eyes in surprise.

[Ding! Power system ready for use]

"Who is that?"

Alex stood up and tried to find the source of the voice he had just heard.

[Ding! Power system ready for use]

Suddenly, a holographic system appeared in the air with a message board that read [Do you want to start a quest?]

Quest? Alex felt even more confused. All of this felt like being in a game or a fiction story, not something real.

"What does it mean?" Alex asked, looking at the sky-blue quest board.

[Will you start the quest?]

Again, the holographic system spoke, making Alex silent for a moment.

"What will I get if I manage to complete the quest?"

Regardless of whether it was an illusion or not, Alex was really talking to the floating holographic board. No matter if it was just a fantasy or not, at least Alex decided to give it a try, even if it was only once.

[If you can complete this quest, you will receive a confidence card.]

"Confidence? What does it mean?"

[Ding! Do you want to start the quest?]

Although hesitant, Alex finally pressed the "Yes" button on the holographic board.

[Ding! The first quest has begun]

[Ding! Kiss a woman named Lisa]

[Ding! Reward earned: Confidence Card]

Alex's eyes widened as he read the holographic message board.

"W-what?"
