Chapter 3. PROTECTING FAMILY

Edward stared in bewilderment at the old man bowing before him. With a black knee-length cane that looked luxurious and expensive that he held in both hands. His clothes looked very neat with his black suit the same as the ones worn by the few guards standing behind them.

"Y-Young master?" he stuttered as he said it. His eyes blinked. Still unable to believe what he was seeing.

"Yes, Young Master," he said, "you are my young master. And I am your butler."

"Butler?" Edward shook his head. "No, it seems to be a misunderstanding. There is a wrong person. I'm nobody. Let alone a rich man who has a butler."

However, the old man smiled at Edward. And looked at him intently. Making Edward feel nervous.

"What is it?" asked Edward awkwardly.

"Of course this has confused you, so first, I will introduce myself," he told Edward.

"I am Robert the butler of the Marcos family. And my job is to serve the grandmaster and the Young Master. Making sure that everything you need is taken care of and keeping you safe."

"You? You mean, me and the grandmaster? And who is the Marcos family? I'm not even part of the Marcos family," Edward informed. He knew he wanted to be rich, but he never thought it would happen in such a short time. But this was still so sudden and so unbelievable.

"The Marcos Family is the richest and most respected family in the city, Young Master. And you are part of this family," he explained.

"No, that's impossible..."

"Hmm," he muttered, "this may seem sudden, but let me explain in detail in the car. Would you like to get into the car with me, Young Master?"

"In the car?" Edward frowned. He wondered if they were deceitful people. Kidnapping people for ransom. But he was not a rich man so it was useless for them to get money from him.

Moreover, they didn't look like criminals. Instead, they looked like people who worked for a rich family.

"Young Master? Don't worry. We would never do anything bad to you, because our job is to serve and protect you," he said as if he could read what was on Edward's mind at the moment.

Edward stared at them for a long time, wondering if it was the right decision to get into their car.

"Alright," he replied, then.

Then the bodyguards rushed to open the car door and let Edward and Robert into the car.

"Is there somewhere you want to go? I can drive you while we talk," Robert said to Edward.

"I want to go to the hospital."

"All right. Take us to the hospital!" he pleaded.

The car drove off at a moderate speed. Edward swallowed hard.

"So, what did you mean by what you said earlier?" Edward asked.

"You are the son of the missing Marcos family."

"Wh-what?!"

"Yes, you are the general heir of the Marcos family. Your mother married a squire and left all the luxuries for love. The Grandmaster was furious and banished your mother while she was pregnant with you," he explained, "which is why you have been ignorant of your true identity."

"So, if I'm one of the Marcos family members and the grandfather who kicked us out of our home, why are you looking for us now?" Edward asked curiously. "After all these years you never cared about us."

"That's because the current Grandmaster is dying and is currently asking me to look for your whereabouts and make sure to bring you back to the Marcos family to continue all the existing businesses. You will take care of everything since you are the only heir of the Marcos family."

Edward widened his eyes in disbelief at what he was hearing. The Only heir? The one who will get all the inheritance and take care of all the businesses and war? That's what he got from everything Robert said to him.

"Are you sure what you're talking about? Because this sounds completely absurd," Edward said looking at Robert with a disbelieving expression on his face.

"Yes, you can take my word for it," Robert said, "and you should know that your brother did not die in an accident but was killed by an enemy and the same thing happened to your sister."

"What? The enemy? That's impossible! How could they take someone's life just because of business competition?"

"It is a common thing in the business world, Young Master. They are capable of anything including hurting or killing their enemies. And if you don't want anything bad to happen to your sister and wife, you must return to the Marcos family to become stronger and be able to defeat all the enemies who are trying to harm the Marcos family," Robert explained. His face turned hard. He held his staff with a firm grip. From his demeanor, Edward knew that he was not lying.

"If it's true that my brother died by assassination, as well as what happened to my sister, then I can't just leave it at that," Edward said. His eyes flashed with anger.

"Yes, Young Master. That is indeed what you must do. Because they have no mercy. They will kill anyone who is related to the Marcos family. Even you could have your life threatened, which is why we immediately searched for you and found you," Robert said.

Edward didn't know how to react. This was too sudden and sounded crazy. Just moments ago he was having a big fight with his boss about money and now he was confronted by an enemy who was trying to kill his family.

It was frustrating and he couldn't think straight!

"And just in case, I'd like to inform you that the next target is your wife. Your wife's life is in danger, Young Master."

Edward's eyes widened in surprise at Robert's words. His pupils fluttered along with the anxiety he felt.

"No, I can't let that happen." Edward shook his head with a panicked expression.

"Therefore, return to the Marcos family, Young Master. This is your only way to protect your wife and younger sister."
