Chapter 5. SUPPORTING WIFE

 

At that time, Edward and Roselyn got a message sent simultaneously. It was an emergency message from Roselyn's family whenever their family had a big problem and it would automatically be sent to every member of their family.

The message said that they had to come to the hall immediately to discuss the company's problems. But there was no mention of the current problem. Roselyn and Edward looked at each other with furrowed brows. They wondered about what had happened and together went to the hall to find out.

When they walked into the hall, everyone was already there, gathered and sitting in their respective seats while their grandmother was at the front along with her secretary.

"Mom, what happened?" asked Roselyn to her mother as she entered the hall.

"I don't know. Your grandmother is not in a good mood right now. I think it's a serious matter. About the company," she told her. Lily's face was no less panicked than everyone else's.

Roselyn gave everyone a worried look.

"Come on, we'd better sit down and let your grandmother explain what's going on with the company," Lily said, pulling Roselyn's hand and inviting her to sit on a chair.

But, the moment they sat down, as well as Edward, Lily stood up with an angry face.

"What are you doing?!" she snapped. "Don't sit here! Stand in that corner over there!" she shouted as she pointed to the corner of the room with her hand. Everyone there looked at Edward with a condescending look and smiled smugly at the way Lily was treating her son-in-law.

"Alright," Edward replied. He did what his mother-in-law told him to do without getting angry and saying anything back. He stood in the corner of the room. Staring at everyone who was there, then dropped his gaze to his grandmother who began to speak.

"I told you to gather in the hall to discuss company matters. This is the biggest crisis our company has faced," Senorita began to explain what had happened.

She swallowed hard. Before speaking again.

"The company is suffering huge losses and is currently on the verge of bankruptcy. And we need to do something to prevent it. Because if we don't, the huge impact could make us lose the company that I've been building all this time. Of course, you don't want to fall into poverty because of this problem," she said.

Everyone there glared in disbelief. Shocked by what Senorita had said. They were shocked and scared by the news of the company going bankrupt.  They were afraid that they would become poor.

"So, I want you to tell me all your thoughts on how to get our company through this crisis. And make sure that the company doesn't go bankrupt."

Everyone was silent with their pale faces. Too anxious and scared to think clearly. Let alone propose the best way to solve all the problems that were happening.

"Sorry, I wanted toー" Before Edward could finish his sentence, Roselyn's cousin interrupted him with a sharp tone.

"Look who's raising his hand. Do you want to give us your silly idea?!" Cousin Roselyn shouted. She looked at Edward with a condescending gaze.

"We shouldn't expect much from the loser. He's just a poor guy who doesn't know anything. How could he possibly know how to save the company."

"That's right. It would ruin the company even more if we let him give us his ideas!"

Everyone there mocked and belittled Edward, but no one tried to defend him. Especially Roselyn and Lily who just stood by and watched everything.

Edward tried to hold back his emotions as he still respected them as Roselyn's family. And he didn't want to ruin this meeting and make the atmosphere even more tense. That was why he gave in. Letting everyone belittle him with all the harsh words they gave Edward.

"We should think about this matter well and find a way out together," said Roselyn's cousin. "But for sure, we will work hard to make the company safe again."

"That's right. This is a serious problem," Roselyn's uncle said.

"Then tell me what you can do to solve all these problems! Because if we don't find a way quickly, our company could go bankrupt in no time," Senorita said. Her eyes trembled with fear and anxiety.

This was a company that she had looked after for years. The one she had worked so hard to make grow to where it is today. And just because of one problem, she could not let the company go bankrupt and fall into poverty.

"Marcos Company is looking for a construction company to work with!" Edward spoke up in a loud voice. And everyone who was there immediately looked at Edward.

"You better shut up!" Cousin Roselyn shouted.

"Yeah, we didn't ask about your opinion!"

"What a loser!"

"Shut up all of you!" exclaimed Senorita. She looked at Edward with a serious face. "Can you explain in detail what you're talking about?" she asked Edward.

Everyone there immediately scowled in annoyance as their grandmother was much more interested in listening to Edward's nonsense than they were.

"Marcos' company is looking for a construction company to do a cooperative project. You can check that it is the largest company in the city. So, you can submit a cooperation proposal to their company. And if they accept it, we can save our company from bankruptcy," Edward explained. He took a deep breath before speaking again. "With that deal, they'll give us a huge amount of money. And we can close our company's crisis with that pitch."

"And then?"

"With that cooperation, our company will also gain fame. And some companies will be interested in cooperating with our company. Because they know, it's very difficult to cooperate with Marco's company. That is, if you can get the deal."

Senorita was silent for a while. She was thinking about what Edward had said.

"Hm, that seems like a good idea," she said, then. "All of you! Contact Marcos' company immediately to offer the partnership!"
