"Please son, have a seat," Jaxon said to Johnathan as the nurse went to help him sit upright while the doctor was checking on his vitals on the monitors.
Johnathan looked all around his father and he couldn't understand why he had all of these things hooked up to him.
"Umm dad, are you okay? You’re going to be fine, right?" Johnathan asked with a terrified tone.
Jaxon laughed then suddenly he started to cough. The nurse hurriedly helped him with a glass of water.
"First things first son, how have you been all these years?" Jaxon asked then reached forward and caressed Johnathan’s face "Look how big you've gotten but you still have the same face Sonia gave you"
"Sonia? Is that my mother's name?" Johnathan asked.
Jaxon sighed and leaned back on the pillow, put behind him by the nurse for his back.
"Yes she is, my beautiful and beloved Sonia but before you ask to see her, it's sad for me to say that she's no longer here with us. She passed away fifteen years ago"
Johnathan felt that news in his core and he didn't know when a tear fell down his eyes.
"How did it happen?" Johnathan asked, sniffling.
"It was a heart disease just like what you also have" Jaxon smiled sadly, trying to comfort Johnathan but Johnathan's entire world felt like it was crumbling right in front of him.
Johnathan grabbed his chest "I got this disease from mom?"
"Please don't hate your mother because of this son, I know wholeheartedly that she never would have had a child if she knew she had a sickness like that in the first place or that it would be inherited by you"
Johnathan was a little bit speechless at the moment.
"But I'm happy she gave birth to you, that we both did because it means I have something of hers to cherish while I'm still alive and kicking."
Hearing those words, Johnathan’s dipped head quickly rose to look at his father's eyes.
"Wait dad, don't tell me that you're that sick. Are you dying?" Johnathan asked, grimacing dejectedly and desperately.
Jaxon smiled, trying to deflect the question "I know you must have asked Abraham how he found you but this is how"
Jaxon reached for his phone from the nurse then he showed Johnathan his screen. It was the live stream the students in Molly's room took of him earlier in the day.
Johnathan's eyes widened when he realized what it was.
"I stumbled on this ad that took me to this website and this was on the front page because of how popular it was," Jaxon said and Johnathan's eyes flicked to the views underneath the stream.
"My humiliation was seen by a quarter of a million people? My reputation is over. If life was hard before then it's about to become a million times worse" Johnathan said, grabbing his hair in worry.
Jaxon gave the phone to the nurse and grimaced at Johnathan.
"I was curious about what the kids behind the camera were saying but what is this you're saying about a hard time? Are the kids in school bullying you?" Jaxon asked.
Just the look Johnathan gave his father was enough for Jaxon to know exactly what Johnathan had been through for a while now and he looked at Abraham, frowning with displeasure.
Jaxon placed a hand on Johnathan's lap and said "This is all my fault, if you hadn't been taken away from me and your mother then you would have lived a life of luxury and as a Cross, there's nobody who would have dared tried to mess with you"
"Is our family that important?" Johnathan asked.
"Of course son, there's only seven families more important than ours and a handful of families just as important as ours in the entire world and trust me, none of those families would be caught dead in a low-class school like the one Abraham found you in"
"Primrose High-school is low class?" Johnathan asked with a blown mind.
"For a family like ours, a mediocre school like that doesn't even fall under the radar of possible places to send our workers’ kids. It'll be a complete shame now clean your eyes son and don't let mediocrities like that bother you"
Johnathan cleaned the tears in his eyes and then smiled for his father but just as quickly as he smiled so did the sadness he felt come back.
"What's the matter, son?" Jaxon asked.
"I'm happy to have found my real family and I have an amazing father but I'm sad that I'm going to die and leave all of this behind very soon. I don't want to die dad" Johnathan said, about to cry.
Jaxon quickly grabbed Johnathan's shoulders and stared right into his eyes, saying "What makes you think you're going to die?"
"B-but, I have the same heart disease that my mother died from."
Jaxon chuckled "Listen here son, your mother only died because we couldn’t find a heart donor that matched her in time, and after losing you and me being in the condition that I'm in, she had already given up hope so she didn't care about healing herself"
Johnathan gulped as his eyes blinked rapidly.
"What if I don't find a donor that matches me too? I only have three months, maybe less so what if—" Johnathan said in a panic.
Jaxon pulled his son closer and smiled at him "There's nothing to worry about finding a compatible donor because your father is going to give you his heart."
"What?!" Johnathan exclaimed, trying to pull himself free from Jaxon's grip but Jaxon held him firmly.
"My heart is all your son and as the new heir of the Cross family group, it's your responsibility— no, it's your duty to take it and live!"
Johnathan looked into his father's eyes and Jaxon was dead serious about this."But if you do this then that means you'll die. I don't want that dad, I just got you and I don't want to lose you that quickly" Johnathan tried to persuade Jaxon but the man on life support seemed adamant.Johnathan was about to cry but Jaxon gave him a hot slap in the face to stop him."Wha— why did you do that?" Johnathan mumbled in shock as he held the cheek his father slapped."Listen here son, you're a Cross and after me, you'll be the next heir to all my fortune. It's extremely disgraceful for an heir to sit around crying when there are important things to do. Suck it up, be the man I know you can be, and carry out your duties. Do it for me and your mother" "B-but—""No buts! Are you a Cross or aren't you?" Jaxon asked."I am" Johnathan answered."Then you have work to do now will you do what you have to or will you bring shame to your family name?" Jaxon said with a burning passion in his eyes.Joh
"Huh? Wellstone Collage? Wait, why Wellstone College? What does that place have to do with any of this?" Johnathan asked in a panic after thinking about all his classmates that must have gotten admitted there.Primrose High school just like a select few other schools of similar status has a partnership program with Wellstone College. This partnership makes their students more favored during the selection process for admission.Certainly, some of the people who wrote the admission exam with Johnathan would have been admitted there, people like Molly and Bradly so the thought of that place being connected to this case was alarming.“Late Master Jaxon and I have been investigating this case for over a decade now by going with what little memory he had of the event. Just recently, one of our channels revealed to us a connection with Wellstone Collage that we didn’t know before” Abraham saidJohnathan looked down at the letter and creased his forehead. He said, “So are you saying that one
"Wait, you're Gustav? The designer Gustav?" Johnathan asked in amazement.Gustav walked closer quickly and bowed his head to Johnathan and so did his assistants."Yes Master Cross, that's me. It's my absolute pleasure to meet you and to be of service to you. These two with me are my assistants Lynette and Tori" Gustav said and remained to bow until Johnathan told him and his assistants to raise their heads."So Gustav, what brings you here? Don't tell me that you, the famous Gustav is going to be styling me?" Johnathan asked and the smirk Gustav had was all the evidence he needed."If the young master will just stand like this, I would like to take your measurements," Gustav said, showing Johnathan the exact position to stand in and Johnathan followed, acting very happy to oblige."Lynette, bring me the tape, and Tori, go bring me the materials we'll need from outside the room" Gustav instructed and his two assistants rushed to do as was told. While Gustav and his assistants did their
"Good evening Sir— Umm, I mean grandfather!" Johnathan bowed to Zebadiah. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you. I've heard so much about you from Abraham"Zebadiah looked at Johnathan very well before he grinned from ear to ear."What are you doing standing over there Johnathan, come give your grandfather a big hug!" Zebadiah said, spreading his arms out and waiting for Johnathan to do what was told.Johnathan rushed towards Zebadiah, reducing the distance between him and Zebadiah by half when he paused suddenly because the door to the study was pushed open even more. The banging sound of the doorknob hitting the wall pulled everyone's attention to want to know who dared to interrupt this grandfather and grandson reunion.Johnathan quickly turned around to find out who had pushed be door and standing by the doorway was an elderly woman with flowing long pudding hair, dressed elegantly and was a similar age to Zebadiah."Where is he?! Where is my darling grandson, Johnathan?!" The woma
Johnathan looked at the pen and hesitated to take it."What's the matter, Johnathan? Take this pen and sign on these documents" Zebadiah said with a commanding tone and Johnathan took it."Our family is the number one and only deliverer of Oat Stone, the most precious mineral in the entire world and we've been doing that since the mineral was first discovered. That's how we've managed to amass such a tremendous amount of wealth throughout the centuries" Zebadiah said as he leaned back into his chair.Johnathan was skimming through the documents, reading what his role as the heir of the Cross fortune was going to be."With our monumental wealth that we can never exhaust even if we tried, what other way is there to spend it than investing in the creation of other very lucrative businesses? These documents have a list of all the businesses we have shares in, how many there are, what they are worth, and their ROI"Johnathan went through the list and after a quick math, he saw just how muc
After his meeting with Zebadiah was over, Johnathan left the study and went looking for Margaret like he promised her he would. Going one time around the mansion while he and Abraham were on their way to meet Zebadiah was enough for Johnathan to make his way around the labyrinth of passages this massive mansion had to offer on his own. He was easily able to make his way to the living room where Margaret would be waiting for him on the couch. Surprisingly, she was with something peculiar on her lap. It was a brown jewelry chest. “Grandmother” Johnathan called out and she took her attention to him, smiling immediately after she saw him. “Here Johnathan, come sit beside me,” Margaret said, patting the couch while adjusting herself to give him ample space to sit on. “You wanted to speak with me, Grandmother?” Johnathan asked as he was sitting down. “Yes, but first of all, how did your meeting with Zebadiah go?” She asked and Johnathan creased his forehead, thinking if he should tell
“The Blood Cross?” Johnathan mumbled as he peered closer at the necklace, especially the pendant. His eyes quickly caught sight of strange markings all over the item.“This entire piece is made from the purest Oat Stone and it was a gift from the founding family to ours,” Margaret said and Johnathan ran his finger along the pendant to feel what those strange markings felt like.“If you look closer, those are the faces of all of the previous heirs of our family. The last two are Zebadiah and Jaxon” Margaret said and it finally clicked in Johnathan’s mind what he was looking at.The faces of his ancestors on the pendant had seemed obscure and hard to identify until Margaret told him what they were and he was finally able to see them.“But wait, there’s a smooth space at this end. This part underneath dad’s face is completely untouched” Johnathan said, pointing at the bottom end of the upright post(the vertical part)With a smile, Margaret said “That part is for your face when you become
From the outside looking in, Johnathan was amazed by how beautiful the inside of the apartment was. Aside from his family's mansion, this was the second most impressive interior he's seen in his life."After acquiring this place, I had contractors change some things to suit what someone your age would be interested in Master Johnathan," Abraham said and the two walked into the building.Johnathan wondered what those changes could have been but he soon found out when he was taken on a quick tour of the apartment and what each floor had to offer. There was a gym, a swimming pool, a movie theater, an arcade filled with different amazing games and so much more. The last place they went to was the empty garage."There's nothing here," Johnathan remarked, confused as to what the room they were in was."Yes Master Johnathan, but this is where your cars will be parked. Because it's not that big, I decided to wait until you chose the type of vehicles you'd want to drive before having them mov
