SURGERY

Johnathan looked into his father's eyes and Jaxon was dead serious about this.

"But if you do this then that means you'll die. I don't want that dad, I just got you and I don't want to lose you that quickly" Johnathan tried to persuade Jaxon but the man on life support seemed adamant.

Johnathan was about to cry but Jaxon gave him a hot slap in the face to stop him.

"Wha— why did you do that?" Johnathan mumbled in shock as he held the cheek his father slapped.

"Listen here son, you're a Cross and after me, you'll be the next heir to all my fortune. It's extremely disgraceful for an heir to sit around crying when there are important things to do. Suck it up, be the man I know you can be, and carry out your duties. Do it for me and your mother"

"B-but—"

"No buts! Are you a Cross or aren't you?" Jaxon asked.

"I am" Johnathan answered.

"Then you have work to do now will you do what you have to or will you bring shame to your family name?" Jaxon said with a burning passion in his eyes.

Johnathan sniffled as he dropped his hand from his cheek then he said "What is it I have to do dad?"

Jaxon smirked "Good, now you're acting like the son worth of my heart and last name."

Jaxon took a deep breath and then leaned back into his bed with a sigh "Listen closely because what I'm about to tell you is very important"

Johnathan nodded his head and paid the utmost attention.

"Sixteen years ago, while coming from a family outing with me you, and your mother, our vehicles were attacked. All our security in the cars ahead and behind us were killed in seconds, then our car was attacked by a missile"

"A missile?!" Johnathan gasped and exclaimed in shock.

"Yes, a missile went off underneath our car which toppled it upside down. It was a dreadful event that day"

"How did you survive? How did we survive?!" Johnathan asked, wondering how he doesn't have signs of being in such a serious accident on his body even though he was in the vehicle when that attack happened.

"It was a planned attack that's why and the attackers didn't want to kill us, not yet anyway. The missile went off underneath my side of the car which put me in the condition that I'm in and as for your mother, she sustained a few burns protecting you with her body"

"I couldn't see who our attackers were, only their legs but they shot our driver and took you from your mother's hand. I was completely helpless and all I could do was watch you being taken away"

"I was their target?" Johnathan mumbled.

"Looks like it. I thought your mother and I were going to die but luckily our driver had enough life in him to get us out of the car just before the car exploded." Jaxon said.

"I was notified by a panic button master Jaxon always had on him and that's how I found him and Lady Sonia laying on the road. I was the one who brought them to the hospital" Abraham said, drawing Johnathan's and Jaxon's attention to him.

"There were a few more attacks on the master and his wife's lives in the first two hospitals we put them in and as such, we had to bring them here which is the most secured medical facility this side of the world"

"Where are we exactly?" Johnathan asked.

"We're in the middle of a military barracks owned by the Cross family. There's nobody that can come in here without permission and first going through multiple checkpoints. That has been how Master Jaxon has managed to be safe all these years"

Just then, Johnathan thought about how strange it was that there weren't that many people in the hospital when they were coming up here and then a thought popped into his head.

"So those patients and visitors I saw while coming here?" Johnathan asked.

"All soldiers keeping watch of anything suspicious. Same for the doctors and nurses. You Young master and Master Jaxon are the only patients in this entire building" Abraham said and Johnathan nodded his head in understanding.

Jaxon placed his hand on Johnathan's to draw his attention "So son, with that story do you now know what you have to do once you get my heart?"

Johnathan looked at his father, clenched his fists, and frowned "Yes father, I'll find those bastards who did this to you and caused my mother to give up on taking care of her health and I'll make them pay"

Jaxon grinned "Great, now let's get started"

Johnathan creased his forehead in confusion "Get started? Wait, we're doing this now? But there's still some time before my sickness worsens. Don't we have to first check if we're compatible and other things?"

Jaxon raised his hand and the doctor gave him a file with both his and Johnathan's faces on it.

"Don't worry son, while you were asleep, following my orders, Abraham had your doctor do different tests to see if this would work, and just like my son that you are, we are a perfect match" Jaxon grinned, showing Johnathan the result of the test.

Things were moving so fast and Johnathan wouldn't be given the time to say much before the nurse walked over to him.

She said "We're ready when you are Young Master Cross"

Johnathan looked at his father who had already laid his back on the bed and the doctor was prepping him for the surgery.

Just then, the door opened and more nurses entered the room, fully prepared for the surgery from the uniform they had on.

Johnathan took in a deep breath and then sighed "Alright, let's do this" he said.

The surgery commenced immediately and Johnathan was put on anesthesia. The last sight he saw before passing out was his father smiling at him with a tear falling down his eyes.

A couple of hours later Johnathan woke up to the sound of machines beeping and pains around his chest.

The first thing he saw when he opened his eyes was Abraham standing in front of him.

"Abraham? What are you doing—" Johnathan said, having forgotten the meeting with his father before the memory flashed in his head "Wait, where's dad?"

Abraham who looked a bit sad stepped closer and dropped a letter beside Johnathan on the bed.

"What's this?" Johnathan asked, breathing heavily because he didn't want to believe what he already knew deep down.

"Master Jaxon's last wishes. I already read it while you were sleeping and he told me to tell you that he loves you. Now it's up to you to fulfill his wishes of finding who ruined his happiness with his family"

Johnathan tried his best and sat upright regardless of the pain then he frowned and said "I'll find whoever is behind what happened and make them pay"

Abraham smirked "Great, Master Johnathan, because the first place we're starting with is Wellstone College"
