Chapter 10

"First Mr. Lawson! Thanks for what you did back there..."

Jim appreciated however, his words were waved off in an instant with the wave of a hand.

Mr. Lawson who once treated him with so much respect and dignity outside seemed to have transformed into a different person. Suddenly looking distant and cold.

Drawing off his phone from his pockets, he lets out a satisfying exhale. Replacing it and returning his cold attention to Jim.

The rumors were true then. The rumors that Mr. Lawson was a puppet for the rich class and nothing more.

He would do anything that he was told to remain a second-class citizen of the city while in the real sense, he was more of a double-edged sword.

He wasn't just used by the powerful people of the city... But his name spread to the four corners of the earth.

Jim's face crept with disdain as the initial mood on his face disappeared.

"You want me out of here as soon as possible and I can assure you! The feeling is mutual!

I'm here to get the construction site!" Jim revealed.

Mr. Lawson seized him up as his eyes lurked deep into every single piece of apparel that he was putting on.

They made the rage boil through his boil but as usual, he was a professional hiding it

"Are you from the Smith family? The Jades? The Paves? Silverado, or Winston family?" He peeked.

He had known billionaires who pretended to be poor people to test others or for any other reasons that they deemed fit. And even though Jim didn't pose that air, there was no room for mistakes.

"None of the above mentioned! But what does family have to do with a bid?"

"You not being above any of these families is another way of saying that you cannot afford it!" He lashed out angrily.

"What do you think? That the construction site costs some pennies? If you need my advice boy, then use that life savings of yours to look like a walking corpse. Not some ghost from the underworld!" Mr. Lawson finally had the chance to let out the anger that he had been suppressing.

His eyes were bloodshot and the greenish vines were evident on his neck as his eyes blazed deep into that of Jim's who still stood with an indifferent look.

"Have your feet also failed you!" Mr. Lawson scowled

"Older or not, I don't think that I am the one you would be referring to in that tone! Let's start again! I want to bid for the land!" He noted.

Mr. Lawson's face blew out red with anger as he could not stand the mockery. People like the KK had already made him go through a lot of that already

He wasn't going to take it from some poor stinky-looking street rat. His lips twisted with annoyance.

"I'm going to make you pay for that!" He sneered, his throat already opened to call the guards but Jim's words suddenly brought him to an abrupt stop and a jaw-opening revelation.

"If memories should serve me right, I can assume that you aren't the Mr. Lawson that you used to be.

You use the police to threaten me. Maybe a while ago, you should have had some influence over there. But right now, you know as much as I do that we stand at the same level on their imaginary scale.

And I should also remind you that everything was taken away from you. This Land is your only property. And the KK corporation is still pricing it low, isn't it?

Don't worry, I'm going to be fair. Going for the cost of the land. The KK co-operation planned such a fine urban piece of two hundred thousand dollars, didn't they? I'm bidding for Four hundred thousand dollars.

Mr. Lawson stood frozen and awe-struck, the black of his eyes almost disappearing as he heard those words.

He stared at Jim and didn't see a young boy anymore. How could a young boy have such a level of information?

Information that he had fought hard to throw under the carpet to save a few people. Jim screeched already expecting this look.

Mr.... Lawson's fall was sudden...Once known as the forerunner of the world powers, in their hidden places. That people like the Paves would not dare to lace their shoes.

That was why he was called the biggest shot in the city. But right after they had no more use for him, as always, he was disposed.

Leaving him in a tussle with the lower upper-class group like the KK co-operation that initially would not dare to speak before his presence.

That was the power of the internet. Nothing could be hidden forever. There was just the need for extra digging.

"So... What do you say, Mr. Lawson? We are both business people here and you should know we don't waste time!" He said.

"And why should I believe that you can afford it?" Mr. Lawson's brows were arched once again in disbelief.

"You don't have to. But I can assure you that you will regret all the rest of your life if you don't give it a trial."

Mr. Lawson, afraid that this was true, beckoned Jim to come into the fine mansion that he would soon be selling off.

Immediately Jim came to him, he sat on the fine sofa and Mr. Lawson's mouth ran dry for words, he could only stare.

"Is there a problem?" Inquired Jim.

"Not at all! I will go ahead to get everything that is needed right away!" Mr. Lawson noted respectfully and was gone.

Jim enjoyed the fine view of the house until a few steps interrupted his thinking. Thinking that it was Mr. Lawson, his eyes quickly surged up.

However, they met with a younger, even finer version of Mr. Lawson. Most probably his son.

Their eyes interlocked into each other and his cute face that was nowhere near that of Jim squeezed into a frown.

"And who are you?" He shot a questioning and imposing stare at Jim.

Something about his attitude just didn't sit right with Jim who balanced himself on his seat and soon returned.

"Your dad will explain that to you when he comes around. However, I can assure you that I am not your lost brother!" Jim re-sorted.

His face grew red and his teeth gnashed against each other. He was about to pour out words when suddenly, his father interrupted with a light tone.

"Everything is ready sir!" His tone was ever respectful.

Inside, he had gone through a train of thoughts to think about how this money was going to be useful to him and to his son in the new life that they had been forced to put up with.

If possible they would even be allowed to live by the big shots he used to work with.

If what Jim said was true, then he needed to be treated with much respect. And if not, there was still nothing to be lost.

"Lawrence... Meet Jim. He's the one getting the construction site!"

"Him? Dad you just got to be kidding me!" Will fused, watching his quest for revenge slip right from his hands.
