The sound of their bodies rubbing against each other is the only thing Daxon can hear. And so, he basks in a flame of anger that could consume hell in itself, clenching his jaw line and tightening his fist.

Despite the toxicity of this damned marriage, Daxon still believed he could revive it. Yet; all of his hope lay flattened at his feet, broken and unable to ever repair. How can Veronica do this to him? How can she dishonor their marriage to such an extent!

All he has ever done is love and worship Veronica like a servant. Why didn’t he see this coming? The moment they got married, she began to evade him like a vile and deadly plague. Why?

Their marriage ceremony was brief and simple—he couldn’t believe Veronica Pierce wanted to be with him, a bartender who was trying to make ends meet. To be worthy of her, Daxon consistently worked like a slave for her love and waited for the day she would give him a chance.

But this is all he gets?

He is at a corner of the room, watching her arch her body like that of a snake, listening to their sounds of pleasure until he can’t anymore.

“Veronica!” Daxon yells and it seems like heaven thundered.

Abruptly, Veronica pushes the man away and uses the sheets of the bed to hide herself. The man who was rapidly plunging himself into her begins to find his boxers in haste. With pounded fists, Daxon gets an intentional glance at the man’s face which he registers in his mind.

At close glance, the unknown man looks like someone Veronica has compared him to. He has manly desirable characteristics that Veronica considered Daxon devoid of. One of those characteristics are massive build— like someone who hits the gym regularly.

As he stands upright, Daxon proves to be taller than him in the areas where he fails to be bulky.

“What the hell are you doing there!?” Veronica yells, covering her nakedness and searching for the rest of her clothes.

Daxon is found speechless by her inconsiderate question and like a volcanic eruption, anger builds inside of him like because he did not expect that Veronica would still dare to ask such a question. His eyes are damaged with tears, animosity and anger—all at once.

“Veronica, who the hell is this !?” The unknown man asks, looking at Daxon from head to toe in clear disgust.

“Daxon, I asked you a question, dammit!” Veronica says, putting her dress on and getting off from the bed.

“You forced me to go to the market because you wanted to commit adultery!? This was your plan?” Daxon says, walking towards her in foaming anger.

“No, no…that isn’t what happened. You…you are mistaken.” Veronica stutters and pales at the sound of Daxon’s yelling.

“I just caught you in bed with another man. I stood here for over a minute watching, and you didn’t even realize. Also, who the hell are you?” Daxon’s voice increases in tone and vigor, referring to the stranger who smirks in reply.

“Can you just keep your voice down for a moment!?” Veronica yells, grabbing Daxon by his hand so that he doesn’t face the man who she was caught in bed with.

“Who the hell are you and what were you doing with my wife!?” Daxon unhands himself, trying to grab a hold of the man but Veronica continues to intervene like a tomato in a sandwich.

Slap!

Veronica hits Daxon across his face and he stops abruptly. Her fingers leave a mark that could turn into a scar, it was intentional and he looks at her with difficulty.

This cannot be the woman he referred to as wife,

“Who the hell are you calling your wife? Yes, we live in the same house and signed a marriage certificate. However, you are an errand boy and I’m the daughter of the Pierce family.” Veronica says and her eyes gleam with delight.

“How can you…” Daxon stutters trying to wrap his mind around his reality.

“So, what if you caught a man in bed with me!? My family pays the bills, provides a roof over your head…I can do whatever I want! Do you do your responsibilities as a husband?”

“Answer me!” Veronica yells.

“If you will always continue to look down on me in our marriage. How will I ever prove to you that I can be the husband you want? I worked for your family’s company ever since we got married but my salary was never paid!”

"I serve this family day and night. I work like a dog, eating from a cup that none of you want to touch and still, you have decided to break the only thing that mattered." Daxon says in regret, raw tears leaving his eyes.

“Wow, Veronica, are you still married? I came here because you told me you were single. I didn’t think I would be wrapped in a family reunion.” Veronica’s lover says and in anger, Daxon fist that has been itching to serve a blow, fulfills its desire.

Pow!

“Matthew!” Veronica screams and she rushes to help her lover whose lips have been busted by Daxon’s insanely primal blow.

“You stupid fool! Do you even know who he is? This is the CEO of Oceanic Enterprise.” Veronica says and pushes Daxon by his pounding chest harshly before speaking.

“You know what…I have had enough of this silly marriage. Listen carefully, I only married you as a silly bet that my friends and I came up with."

“I should have never made such a stupid bet with my friends in the first place! You were just a bar cleaner, I could see how much you worshiped me just because I spoke to you.” Veronica says and Daxon cannot believe what he is hearing.

“What…what did you just say?” Daxon’s stammers, it’s like a chord has been struck.

“You heard me the first time. I married you because of a damn bet! I could have divorced you immediately, but the family business began to bloom when the media found out I was married to a low class individual.”

“We got more sales and attention. So, I had to keep you like a lap dog. I was happy to see you run and fetch like a dog. However, I think I’m done with you now!” Veronica says, not withholding any hateful words in which she could compare him to.

Veronica runs to help Matthew and she places a tissue on his bleeding lips.

“Matthew, are you okay?” Veronica asks and Daxon watches as she acts so lovingly towards him. Veronica has never once shown affection towards him before.

“How dare he punch me?” Matthew says and aggressively takes the tissue from Veronica.

“Look at me, Matthew.” She says trying to calm her lover.

“Do you really think I would give myself to a low class man like him? He is a dead beat! We do not share a relationship with one another. The man is living in his delusions…I just used him to get more sales for my family’s business.” Veronica says and Matthew angrily storms out of the room.

Daxon’s heart shatters into a million pieces. It’s like the person he has been married to hasn’t been married to him.

“How could you do this to me?” Daxon asks, tears are spilling from his eyes and Veronica stops for a moment. She was just about to chase after Matthew.

“Don’t take it personally. I have only used you for what I needed you for, it is an honor to be married to me, I am Veronica Pierce after all.”

“Matthew is whom I belong to, he can give me the world and everything beneath it. Daxon, I have tried to put up with you but I just can’t. How can I put up with a man who has never spent $1000 on me?” Veronica says, her eyes are cold and unapologetic.

“It is always about the money for you! I have devoted my life to you and your family. You couldn’t even take that into account?” Daxon asks.

“The bet is over Daxon, and you have played your role well.” Veronica says with a smirk.
