After dinner ended, Leonard went back inside, his mind full with several thoughts.
He had always been determined to make money and take care of his mother. Only that, up until today, he had always imagined that he had to climb up the ladder by gradually working.
But with the World Dominating system, he felt that things were different and the heavens were giving him a chance.
Now that his mother wanted to work with Susan’s family, he swore to himself not to let that happen for more than two months.
He couldn’t convince her now. After all, he didn’t have much, and she was determined to help him out.
Leonard sighed at his current helplessness but was also determined to work hard in the next two to three months so that he could at least make them comfortable.
After making up his mind and feeling better, he picked up his books, ready to study.
He had barely read for half an hour when he remembered that Susan had asked him to send a message so that they could talk about their project over the phone.
With all the system’s tasks and getting home to sleep, he had long since forgotten about that important detail.
Since she had already saved her number into his phone, Leonard hurriedly dialled her number.
The call was picked up on the second ring, and a little moving around was heard first.
“Leonard, why are you only calling by this time?” Susan asked in a hushed tone, it was easy to tell that she was trying to make sure no one heard her.
Leonard glanced at the wall clock in his room one more time as he felt maybe he made a mistake, but it was only a few minutes past eight. He sighed before responding, “Sorry, I forgot, and I thought you would still be studying,”
“Hmmm, I tend to fall asleep after dinner, so now, I have to study with my brothers watching,” she replied.
Leonard paused, a little unsure about what to do. He wasn’t particularly sure of how things like this worked in her family, and so he was waiting for her to make a decision.
“Have you set up any social media accounts? I can send you messages while I’m studying, and you can send me anything you want me to look up also,”
Hearing the solution, Leonard felt it was also okay as his room’s wall was thin. If he talked for long, his mother would know soon enough that he was talking on the phone.
But he also didn’t have much time to care about things like social media and only asked for her own.
“Tell me the one you prefer and your account there, I will send a message when I create an account there,”
After saying that, he hung up and placed his phone aside, returning to his studying.
In the Weber Manor,
As soon as Susan stepped out of the bathroom with her phone, her immediate eldest brother, Sloan, looked at her suspiciously.
“Why did you rush into the bathroom like that? Are you starting to hide things from the family?” He asked with a playful glare.
Susan didn’t take him seriously. After all, he was only two years older than her, and he was the one she was most close to in the family.
She rolled her eyes, settling into her chair before she replied, “No, I went to let out some gas and spent some time watching a video about a topic like that,”
Sloan looked at the slight flush on his sister's cheeks and kissed his teeth.
“Don’t go around getting silly ideas. If you don’t do well this time around, Mother will probably skin you alive or send you abroad.” He reminded, a little stern and a little doting.
As the last child and the only girl out of four children, Susan had been spoilt silly. She didn’t have to face the pressure of studying that other kids faced. After all, she was born into one of the top ten families in their country. Also, she was going to end up marrying someone in their cycle.
So her parents were fine as long as she did well enough.
However, recently, many families showed off their daughter’s results, making Madam Weber uncomfortable.
And now, she had started to apply a little more pressure on her princess too.
“Hmmm, I’ll do well,” Susan said with a shrug and went back to studying. However, her mind was constantly wandering to the message she was supposed to send to Leonard.
Would he wait up all night for her?
Unfortunately, while Leonard had at first waited for her message, he had dropped the phone aside after the first minute to return to his studying, but the system had another plan in mind.
With two alarm dings ringing in Leonard’s mind, it informed him, [Host must pick out a skill with the awarded points as he needs to grow stronger!]
Leonard sighed and leaned back in his chair, “what are my options?”
[The World Dominating System has every skill that has ever existed in this world, which is also constantly upgraded. If the host wants, you can look through the various categories.]
A transparent screen appeared in front of his eyes with words appearing on it. It was like a projection that didn’t need any solid display medium to be seen.
Leonard didn’t waste time and started to scroll through the skills list.
Unlike any list he had ever seen, he was impressed by the way this system categorised things.
Skills that could earn money very quickly and add relevance were placed separately, while skills that would be career-advancing and binding were also placed.
It also had another category for self-development.
[If the host wants to focus on personal development, the system would recommend picking a skill like the ancient martial arts technique. It is rarely seen and would give the host a large advantage in the long run.]
Leonard nodded but moved away. Most of the skills cost about 5 to 7 points, and he had 15, which meant that he could select more than one. However, this was only for the initial purchase as each of the skills had levels to them. The points required for the intermediate and advanced levels weren’t shown yet.
While the idea of martial arts was appealing, it wasn’t what he needed urgently. Moreover, he remembered that the guardian had advised him to build his body’s natural strength for a while first.
Thinking up to that point, he decided against it and went to another section. Futuristic development!
He had always had an innovative mind and won several competitions in that area. However, the one thing that he had the most interest in, he was unable to do it because not only did he not have a properly functioning computer.
But the investment needed for it was also high. Now that he could pick it just by using points, he didn’t hesitate.
“Coding and developers language.” He murmured, looking at the extensive thing that it covered in the summary.
Leonard took a deep breath before pressing on that choice. The intermediate level was 7 points.
[Skill selected, the host has 8 points left and can select another skill if you want.]
Leonard nodded and went back to looking at the things that could earn him money. Eventually, he settled on one.
Trading and investment!
He had 3 points left which was not enough to buy any course, so the system’s transparent screen disappeared.
Leonard smiled as he leaned back in his seat, his blood boiling from the knowledge he was going to get very soon.
After school the next day, Leonard took the bus that would head deep into the city instead of his usual route. He had left home with his mother this morning and promised her countless amount of times to stop at Madame Diane’s house. In the bus, he leaned his head back and closed his eyes. To anyone, he was sleeping. However, since the World Dominating System was already in his body, the two skills he had picked could play out in his head. It was a trance like situation where he felt like he was watching himself watch the course that was playing out. There was also an option of playing it on a screen but he didn’t have any Bluetooth device and so he decided to use this method to save time. Since their school was at the edge of the city center, the bus ride took about an hour and Leonard got down. He glanced down at the paper that contained the new address that his mother had given him one more time to confirm he was at the right street. After confirming, he scoffed. This area w
As Leonard walked out of her house, he didn't care if he had been rude or not, one thing was certain, he wouldn't allow her to ridicule him and his mother. His mother could fall for her tricks and acting, but Leonard was able to see things more clearly. Also, he knew that his mother had a naturally kind and agreeable disposition, but he was at least not like her completely. He was quite glad that he had given her that warning, and now, he knew that she would think so much about it before she uttered her mouth to say any more demeaning words.Walking towards his house, the system dinged all of a sudden. Since he was already used to the beeps the system made as soon as a new task was launched, he could guess that he had a new task. [New task activated]Leonard went to a corner of the road to listen to what it had to say. ''What's the task?'' Leonard asked. He wanted to be sure if this was something he could do. Even though he needed the money to get him and his mother by every day,
The silent beep of a machine woke Leonard up that evening. Squinting his eyes open, he was immediately blinded by the bright white light streaming from the chandelier of the room he was in. He groaned, trying to reach out but all he could feel was empty air.''Its okay.'' a voice said.Leonard didn't need to think twice to know that it was his mother's voice. How she had got here and how he had got here too was very strange to him.''Mom?'' he asked.''Yes honey.'' she sighed. Finally, he managed to open his eyes and the first thing he noticed was how white the room was. He was momentarily confused when he saw some machines fixed on him.''You're in the hospital, Leonard. You got severely hit by a thief.''That was when everything came rushing back to him. The system's instructions… the women at the mart… the wait… tackling the thief to the ground and then finally receiving the blow to his head.''The thief…''''Oh don't worry about that honey, he's going to be in jail for a very very
A few hours later, Leonard got discharged from the hospital, and deep within him, he was already feeling much better than how he was before. ''Thank you, nurse.'' Helene smiled at the nurse as they stepped out of the reception area of the hospital. Leonard's mind was already on the project work they were to do, he really hoped that Susan wasn't angry already because he knew that a lot of time had already gone. It was already dark outside and the only thing they could do was to get an Uber that could take them back home.''Mum, we need an Uber,'' he said.''An Uber would be too expensive darling, I'm sure we can get a bus that's going to our route,'' she said.Leonard stopped for a minute to think about what she had just said. He was quite confused because they were supposed to be going to Madame Diane's house but now she said they were going back to their own home which just confused him all the more.''We aren't going to Madame Diane's house?'' Leonard asked. There was a small paus
The next morning, Leonard woke up in high spirits, ready to tackle the day ahead. He had made up his mind to confront Edgar and put an end to the torment once and for all. As the morning sun rose, Leonard got dressed quickly and headed to school, arriving earlier than usual.Walking through the school gates, Leonard couldn't help but notice the beautiful colors of the blooming flowers and the chirping birds in the nearby trees. The environment seemed to reflect his newfound optimism, filling him with a sense of happiness and confidence.Finding a quiet spot on the school lawn, Leonard took a moment to collect his thoughts. He reminded himself of his worth and the strength he possessed especially now that he had a power sitting deep within him. He repeated words of encouragement in his mind, standing on the belief that he didn't have to listen to Edgar's harsh words anymore just because he was a scholarship kid. Today was the day Leonard would stand up for himself and he would make
The speed at which Leonard rushed out of the cafeteria was unlike anything Susan had ever seen in her life. One minute, they had been talking and the next minute, he was running like the wind.''What on earth?'' she murmured. She knew something was going on and she was determined to find out what it was but at that moment she couldn't because she had other pressing things to attend to.Meanwhile, Leonard who was halfway through the hallway raced towards a secluded part of the school, a part where he knew no one could find him. He needed to be alone with the system and better understand what they needed him to do because he had no idea what this next new task would be. They had given him nothing and he knew better than to ask any questions again because he knew that there would be no answers. Once the system had given him an instruction, it was left for him to follow through with it without fail.''But why the rush?'' Leonard asked as he got to the boy's locker room.He was smart an
Still hiding behind the shrubs, Edgar looked around one more time before walking towards the laboratory. By this time, no one was around, he could easily gain access without any hindrance but Leonard was determined to stop him. He came out of hiding, staring straight ahead before walking towards the building, His strides were long and precise and Leonard had to keep up with him lest he loses him. He needed to know what he was after and he wasn't going to stop until he knew what he was up to. Soon, Edgar gained entrance into the building. Once in, Leonard walked further to where he had first seen him hiding. He quickly looked around, trying to see if he had dropped something, anything that could give him a hint as to why Edgar was roaming the school grounds when he should have been in class. The ground was free as it should be. Th
''What happened?'' Leonard asked. ''You don't remember that happened?'' the nurse asked. ''Just bits and pieces, that's all,'' he said. ''Well, that's not a surprise. Smoke inhalation has been known to cause memory loss but not to worry, you'll be alright in no time.'' she smiled. Leonard sighed, resting his head on his pillow. He couldn't deny the fact that he was very tired, tired of everything that had happened. It was one thing to attend school without any problems and another thing to encounter various problems even while schooling and Leonard hoped that the next task he undertook was relatively easier than this.
