"Get in,” he said gruffly, his gaze fixed on the road ahead of them.

Though his expression was stern, she recognized the annoyance in his tight jaw. With a nervous smile, she pulled open the passenger door. A rush of cool air greeted her, bringing instant relief from the heat.

Her cotton top clung to her damp skin, but in the car's chill she saw no need to remove it just yet. Sliding into the seat and banging the door shut, she glanced at Henry.

Priscilla sighed, leaning her head back as the cool air dried the sweat on her skin.

His grip tightened on the steering wheel as he shot her a sidelong glance. "You've got some explaining to do."

She nodded, eyes downcast. As the car pulled away from the curb, she launched into her story. "I know, I'm sorry. When I got the message, I flagged a taxi and rushed down but something seemed off from the start. The tires suddenly burst and I had to leave the taxi for another one. The other taxi came back and it turned out it was part of the plan
