Alec stood still in front of the window, his thoughts still consumed by the mysterious object, when father's voice broke the silence, calling out from outside the room.

"Alec?" his father called, his footsteps drawing nearer.

Alec glanced at the ball he was holding, remembering his father must not see it or there is going to be whole lots of questioning. He was torn between uncovering the whole mysterious situation and hiding it from his dad.

"What's going on?" His dad asked, his voice still sounding from outside the bedroom.

"Shit!" Alec cursed, his heart racing. He walked back to his bed and quickly concealed the ball beneath his bedspread, positioning himself in front of it to shield it from view, then the door opened.

"Alec?" His dad called again.

"Dad?" Alec responded, feigning innocence as he met his father's gaze.

"Did you hear that sound?" his father asked, his voice filled with concern.
