Chapter 006

Xavier stood face to face with the butler, his heart pounding with a mixture of confusion and apprehension. The butler's stoic demeanor was enough to send a chill down Xavier's spine, but it was his intense tone that truly unnerved him.

'You cannot leave.' the words echoed in Xavier's thoughts. What exactly was that supposed to mean?

Xavier looked shockingly at the butler as he demanded answers. "Why?" he pleaded, but the butler's lips remained sealed, citing his position.

"You cannot leave," the butler repeated, his voice low and commanding, the words hanging heavy in the air like an ominous warning.

Xavier's mind raced, trying to make sense of the cryptic statement. Why was he being detained? What had he done to warrant such confinement? The questions swirled in his mind, but the butler remained frustratingly silent.

"Why?" Xavier demanded once again, his voice tinged with desperation. He searched the butler's impassive face for any sign of explanation but found none.

Frustration bubbled up inside him, threatening to boil over. He needed answers, and he needed them now. With a storm raging inside him, Xavier demanded to see the boss, "I need answers! I didn't come here for any of this bull shit!" Xavier stated, convinced that a rational explanation awaited him.

"The Master of the house is occupied with more important things. He has no time for such meagre issues." the butler's response only served to further stoke the flames of Xavier's anger.

In a moment of blind fury, Xavier's patience snapped. With a swift movement, he seized the butler's collar, his grip tightening with a vice-like force. For a fleeting moment, he allowed himself to revel in the shock and fear that flashed across the butler's face.

But then, just as quickly as it had come, reason prevailed. With a sharp exhale, Xavier released his hold on the startled butler, his hands trembling with the adrenaline of his outburst.

Taking a step back, he fought to regain control of his emotions, his mind racing with the realization that he was trapped within the confines of this enigmatic mansion, with no one to turn to but himself.

"I just want to meet the boss," Xavier said to the butler.

The butler cleared his throat and adjusted his collar, "I'll see what I can do."

The butler turned on his heels, disappearing down the hallway, leaving Xavier alone with his thoughts.

Finally, the butler returned to Xavier, "The Master will see you now," he announced, gesturing for Xavier to follow him.

Relief flooded through Xavier as he eagerly trailed behind the butler, his curiosity burning brighter than ever.

It didn't take long for them to arrive at a grandiose door adorned with intricate carvings.

The butler knocked twice before opening it, revealing a lavishly decorated study bathed in bright lights of chandeliers.

Sitting behind a massive oak desk, the elderly man could be seen writing and looking through some papers.

"Master will speak with you now," the butler said, stepping aside to allow Xavier to enter.

Heart pounding, Xavier crossed the threshold into the room, ready to finally the answers he's been longing for all this while.

As Xavier stepped into the room, the elderly man looked up from his papers, his piercing gaze meeting Xavier's. "You've caused quite a stir, young man," the Master remarked, his voice deep and commanding. "But I am informed you're here for an explanation."

Xavier nodded, too scared to speak up, as he waited for the Master to continue.

"Sit," the Master commanded, gesturing to a plush chair in front of the desk. Xavier complied, his eyes never leaving the elderly man seated before him.

"The fact remains the same, Xavier. You cannot leave the mansion. Ever." the old man repeated.

The same words. That same sentence. Xavier has been listening to it from the butler but what did it mean? How could they keep him here against his will?

"I heard that from the butler but what I don't know is why. Why can't I leave? I need to go home to my wife. You don't expect me to never return home when I'm married." Xavier explained.

The old man pulled out a document and tossed it towards Xavier, "You signed this, didn't you?" he asked, causing Xavier to get worried instantly.

Xavier picked up the documents and glanced through them. Behold it was the same document he signed yesterday.

"Yes I signed this, but it was for the secretary job." Xavier answered, "That's why I was confused earlier as to why I was doing the job of a helper when I was supposed to work as a personal secretary."

The old man laughed. "Are you dreaming? Didn't you read what you signed?" The old man asked, making Xavier pale.

It was at that moment Xavier glanced through the paper word for word.

As Xavier skimmed through the contract, realization dawned, and his world shattered.

The weight of his mistake pressed down on him as he stammered in disbelief. His signature condemned him to become a houseboy, residing only within the mansion and serving the master and his family for the rest of his life.

"No... No! This can't be possible!" Xavier stammered, his hands shaking, "it can't possibly be."

Xavier shook his head, unable to believe what he had read with his own two eyes.

"Don't worry, you'll be given all you need for the rest of your life," the old man comforted Xavier, "Drop the contract on my desk. You may leave." the old man added, throwing his attention back to the paperwork in front of him.

Xavier put down the contract and rushed out of the study, quickly pulling out his phone and dialling his wife's phone number but with each try, Kelanie's number was not reachable.

Xavier's entire body was consumed by fear. He did not want to believe Kelanie had sold him into slavery for the rest of his life.

Not for that amount written on paper. Did their marriage mean nothing to her? What about her sweet talks of yesterday? Was it all a plot against him?

"No, I don't want to believe you did this, Kelanie."
