Chapter 007

The morning light filtered weakly through the curtains as Xavier sat on the edge of his bed, trying to collect the shattered pieces of his world. He refused to come out to work that day.

His phone lay dead in his hand, drained from countless calls to his wife, each one met with silence or dismissal.

As he sat there lost in his thoughts, the door creaked open, and his boss stepped in, his presence an unwelcome intrusion. The concern in his eyes clashed with the cold aura that surrounded him, leaving Xavier unsure of what to make of the man before him.

"Are you alright?" the old man inquired, his voice a thin thread in the suffocating silence.

Xavier's gaze remained fixed on some distant point, his mind reeling with questions and disbelief.

Finally, Xavier found his voice, though it trembled with emotion. "How could you do this?"

The boss's silence was damning, but eventually, he offered a confession that sent a chill down Xavier's spine. "I thought you knew. No one signs these things
