Arriving at the farm, Cody told Gwen and Helena everything. The two women could only remain silent. Helena massaged her forehead, while Gwen looked like she had to cry.

Gwen grabbed Cody’s hand. “This is not your fault. Everything that happens to us has nothing to do with your actions. You just do what you feel you need to do.”

“But in order to save ourselves, we might sacrifice many people.” Cody felt emotions welling up in his chest. “Maybe Jane won’t attack Akira’s community if nothing happens in the future. But if the King attacks, then Jane will target that community.”

“Yeah, because they have an affiliation with the king and have a clear location,” Helena joined in. “Meanwhile, we don’t know where the king is yet.”
