Chapter 11: Fort Lorilis
The next evening, Val collected her meager belongings. As she said goodbye to Emma. Maggie had agreed to keep Emma on and even offered Emma a bed in her home. Emma was growing fast, having just turned 13, and would soon be a tall beauty. Now that she had a stable life and a place to stay with Maggie, Val hoped she would do well. “I will come back and see you all as soon as I can. I don’t know how long training will take though.” Maggie didn’t understand what training Val was talking about but Emma seemed to have an idea. She leaned in, pulling Val into a tight hug. She whispered in her ear, “be safe, little reaper.” Less than an hour later, Val was waiting in the ally where she had met Desmond. “Glad to see you decided to accompany me.” Came the deep voice of Desmond behind her. She spun to find the dark warrior only inches behind her. “You look more and more like your mother. If you have half of her talent, you will make a great addition to Suria, and perhaps even the order.”

Chapter 12 : Rude Welcomes
Valkryie’s eyes fluttered open as she heard angry voices around her. Darkness greeted her as she tried to blink away the drowsy feeling numbing her body.“How dare you drug a Silverblood! What right do you have to question the Spark bearers?” Desmond was shouting.Three men stood around him, revolvers held at the ready. Brayden brashly declared, “In this fort, I am in charge of gate security. It is policy to question everyone who enters with the truth serum. Not only that , but a simple prick can tell us if she is Suria or not.”“And? She passed your little test didn’t she?” Desmond roared. “Your prerogative ends when it comes to the Spark blessed. You have no rights when it comes to the gods damned Sparks!”“We don’t know she is silverblood or that she bares a Spark. She didn’t flag when I initiated the reveal command. Even yours responded to that.”“She had a gods damned Elite level! Of course, it wouldn’t respond to you! It will only respond to another spark, and a high level at th

Chapter 13: Exploration
“Depending on your mastery and needs, most offer five levels of training. The order has an established rate while the Counsel of elders affords full time soldiers a training stipend. 500 Dret for the first level training is the going rate for Silverbloods not contracted with the army. Some students need to repeat that several times to pass.” Desmond eyed her knowingly, “Everything costs. But we will address your needs soon. Now, each successive level of training costs an additional 500 dret. So level two is 1000 dret, level three is 1500 and so on. All told, in order to master all of the trades, one must have substantial funds. Most of the soldiery only get one level paid for by the council, and more based on their rank. On that note, come with me.” Desmond led her to a long hallway and around a corner where the walls began to shift to metal panels. As she walked, Val notices strange blue veins in the metal that glowed, illuminating the hall. “The ancients left these bases. The tech

Val closed the notebook and stood. She wondered if Desmond would be done yet and decided to make her way back to the training hall. As she walked, trailing a hand along the blue lines in the walls, the color brightened and shimmered, giving her a sense of being home. When she arrived at the hall she noticed several people milling around a large table. She made her way over and found a huge 3D model of the world. “Can I help you?” a woman asked. Val spun to find a thin lady not much taller than herself with long brown hair braided down her back. “I am waiting on Desmond.” “Ah, then you must be Desmonds little pet project the whole place has been talking about,” she said, considering Val and taking in her appearance. The lady then pointed to the large table before her and asked, “Do you know what this is?” “Not really. I guess it is Parcia?” “Close,” she chuckled, “This is all nine realms. The world is much larger than you think. I am Lauren Brennen, the missions and investment man

Chapter 15: Testing
Val soon found herself in a maze of false buildings and makeshift allies. She quickly found herself a dark shadow to hide in along a roof top along the main passage. Here, she didn’t need to worry about passerby’s seeing her, only focusing on Desmond. Shortly, she could feel his presence enter the street and approach her hiding spot. When he had just passed beneath her, Val flipped soundlessly off the roof and sent a lightning-fast thrust at Desmond’s back. Her blade flowed seamlessly as she made her slash with her dagger just as she had done with countless Shadows. Her signature move was a seamless stroke through the chest and back across the neck. However, her blade didn’t complete the motion she had hoped and the next thing she knew, a fist connected with her temple, followed by a spinning kick to her neck that sent her sailing across the ground, tumbling like a limp rag doll. When light finally broke through the black of her mind and vision, Desmond was towering over her. Des

Chapter 16: Morgessa
Valkyrie Black, Age 12 Valkyrie wandered the valley one morning before her lesions would start. Being that it was mostly only the enlisted soldiers performing continuing training here until the next cohort of students arrived, the various masters tended to not want to meet with her until later in the morning. Val was still up with the first rays of sunshine, so she filled her free time with exploring every inch of the fortress she could reach. While the grand hall’s mastery challenge eluded her, there were few other places a curious twelve-year-old couldn’t reach. She had yet to be permitted into Suria, but the pass through the mountains was riddled with caves worth exploring. There was a particular path that Val was keen to check out today. She slipped past the sentries and made her way into the second cave on the left. To most people, this was a very shallow cave with nothing interesting. However, Valkyrie’s thin frame allowed her to check out some interesting formations in the

Chapter 17: More Than Meets The Eye.
Val saw another flash of red in her vision and leaned back, narrowly dodging another stone thrown her direction. It was followed by a flurry of small stones thrown at various speeds. The last one she reached out a hand and caught, spinning her body to absorb the impact and hurled the stone back at her attacker.Morgessa grinned, dodging the stone with the barest of movements. “Now you are learning. Never let an attack go to waste when you can use it against your attacker. I think you might do well with us. What do you say? Train with me and my students?”Val considered for a minute. She was already spending a small fortune with the other trainers. “What will it cost?”Morgessa chuckled, “Desmond was right about you, you are sharp. I don’t require coin for my training. What I do require is Scath plasma. There are many things a Spark Blessed can use Scath plasma for. Even this cave is guarded by a Scath lock that requires plasma to open. Not a full unit mind you, but one crystal might o

Chapter 18: A Unique Soul
A month later, a messenger found Valkyrie as she was finishing training with the fortress dagger master. She thanked the boy who was not much younger than herself and tore open the letter. Meet me at eleven hour in the cave where we first spoke. M Morgessa. Val knew of no one else who would summon her in such a way. She thanked her instructor and performed the customary fist-to-heart salute the soldiers all used for those of rank before heading towards the cave she had entered before. While she knew where the entrance was deep in the catacombs under the fortress, that passage required the sacrifice of a Scath to enter. As she slid unseen into the dark cave, her vision adjusted as it had before, with the cold of the walls contrasting only slightly with the cool air. She made her way to the larger cave with the magma pool and spotted Morgessa’s heat signature at the base of the rise she emerged on. she slid over the edge and dropped to the ground, kneeling head bowed on one knee bef

Chapter 19: Seer's Sage
The next week, Val found herself sneaking away from her friends at dusk to meet with Morgessa. The passage through the caves had quickly become second nature, though there were many areas left to explore. Morgessa had not stopped her curiosity, but cautioned her to never go deeper into the caves without chalk and string. She warned that more than one foolish youth had been lost in various cave systems after losing track of time, and direction, not to be found until several days or weeks later. When she made it to the magma room, Morgessa was waiting.“Come, today I teach you the first level of Spark Meditation. Desmond likely would have liked to lead you through this, but he doesn’t have the time nor the depth of mastery to unlock your full potential.”“Spark Meditation?”Morgessa frowned at Val, “Girl, tell me. How have you been leveling your spark? I can tell that you clearly have but without the meditation how have you achieved this?”“Umm… well the runes just appear and normally w

There was a long pause, “there shouldn’t be anyone. That must be part of your imagination. This is a vivid dream state.”Val thought Morgessa didn’t sound as sure as she had about everything else.“Child look to the sky. Tell me what you see.”Val did as she was told, the older man seemed content to watch and wait his turn. Above, the stars opened up before her and then rushed impossibly close. Constellations stood out in her vision, lines connecting some of the bright stars, others remaining incomplete.“Constellations?” Val asked hesitantly.“Indeed, child. This is where you can better see and plan how you can advance your spark. Each constellation is a series of skills that build on each other. Observe which ones you have already activated.”Val looked all around. Most of her skills had at least one star that was brighter than the rest, seeming to indicate activation. Her climbing and basic combat skills had several stars connected, and even her barter skills had shown some improve
