Chapter Sixty: The Hunters' Awakening (2)
This guy was proving to be far more annoying than Olivia had expected. Despite the inability of his Organ Destroying Venom to kill her as he had envisioned, the assassin Shin had not relented in his attacks. In fact, if anything he had suddenly become more vicious with his attacks. To his credit Olivia would honestly acknowledge his mastery of the sword with what she had seen so far. He was fast and precise in his movements, and his strength was nothing to discard either. But more than anything else, Olivia had noticed that his mood was quite volatile. He had gone from sadistically happy to sickeningly cheerful right down to a frustrated murderous anger. The last one had come a few moments after his most dangerous ability had proved unable to affect her. Hous frustration had died down quickly enough though and he had begun to fight her with a far more composed demeanor. Even his attacks, though they had not undergone any reduction in intensity, now seemed more focused and concent

Chapter Sixty One: The Hunters' Awakening (3)
As she performed a series of hops to avoid several streams of toxic petals, Olivia mentally estimated the distance between her and the assassin to be less than twenty meters. She could cross it without much difficulty to blitz the bastard, but doing so while avoiding these damn things would be all but impossible. She knew how smart this bastard was. There was no way he would not be able to tell what her plan was the moment she made that move.   A mad dash in his direction, discounting any and every other thing would also allow her to reach him quickly enough. But that would only further increase the strain on her mind as she would undoubtedly suffer immense damage, which would be healed by her ability at the cost of more of her mind slipping out of her control.   'God I hate this so much! But it doesn't look like there's another way. Dodging these things isn't getting me any where. I'll just keep taking damage and healing until I lose it. Looks

Dragons. His ability allowed him to summon dragons. Why the hell would his ability allow him to summon freaking dragons?! Was there really no fairness in this world? The assassin Ryusuke Sakai drew back his sword, his bright blue eyes staring right into Lee's crimson ones. "Here I come," he said and vanished. Lee's senses went haywire with danger alerts and he looked up to see the assassin bearing down at him with a wide slash that split the air and sent all seven dragons roaring down at him. The Hunter leapt back in a series of backflips to avoid the divebombing draconic missiles. Each one exploded upon contact with the earth with more than enough force to completely destroy an armored tank. The blast wave caught Lee in the draft and sent him careening backwards into the forest. Scarcely had he managed to regain his bearing that he felt an ominous sensation hovering over him. Lee was not the most combat-experienced Hunter in the entire squad for no reason. His

The subtle pressure on the back of Ryusuke's mind since the moment he had seen the Hunter unharmed by his attack suddenly intensified to unbelievable levels and he found himself leaping back as the Hunter suddenly appeared before and slashed down. His feet had not even touched the earth when the platinum blonde boy vanished again and reappeared right above him, bringing both of his swords down in a surely fatal strike that Ryusuke immediately brought his own katana up to block.  The blow nearly knocked his sword out of his hands.   'What is this?! This strength... It's almost on par with Hatoshi at his maximum output!!'  The Hunter grinned wildly at him, having noticed the instant change in his formerly expressionless face. Up close, Ryusuke could see that his hair was no longer snow white as it had been previously. Now there were a few locks of vermilion colored hair among the still predominantly white mane. But he did not have much

Chapter Sixty Four: The Hunters' Awakening (6)
Effectively gaining control of the dragon's movement, Lee slammed his foot on its back and stirred it around to direct it straight at Ryusuke. The assassin's eyes widened and he pushed himself to the left in a wide jump to avoid the rogue energy dragon, leaving it to obliterate a good sector of the forest edge where the battle had taken them. Having ditched his unwilling draconic ride moments before its 'death' by jumping back into the air, Lee found himself besieged on both sides again by the assassin's final pair of dragons. A wide open mouthed grin spread across his face as he used more blood to create two separate platforms that he used to push his body into a spinning rotation that had both bladed ends of his chain scythe wounding and wrapping around the necks of both dragons. He landed on the ground a couple of seconds later and dragged both energy constructs down behind him where they both detonated in death, all without sustaining a single non-self inflicted injury on

Chapter Sixty Five: The Hunters' Awakening (7)
As Hatoshi stared at the of rubble that covered the downed Hunter, he could not help but wonder if he had ended up using too much power by accident. It was not something that had not happened before. He was often used to forgetting just how much more stronger he was compared to other people, even among the supernatural. A side effect of such was the fact that his battles tended to end up finishing far sooner than he would have preferred. Hatoshi knew he was a battle maniac. That was perhaps the best and most accurate way to describe his true nature. He loved the thrill of battle, lived for it even. That was the actual reason why he had ended up joining Rin's assassin squad. Like the others, his clan was part of a long standing coalition of hidden clans that had existed unnoticed for centuries following the decline of the Edo period of Japan. The clans had existed mainly to ensure that the true way of the shinobi did not die out completely. Every generation that passed by, the clans el

As he realized that he would not be breaking through this barrier at least not with the level of strength he had at the moment, Hatoshi used the recoil from a powerful haymaker that Jade merely slapped away to push himself back to the ground. When he made to inhale even more air, Hatoshi felt a sharp pain lance through his body forcing him to pause in his actions. As he took a moment to run a quick inspection of his internal body, Hatoshi could not help but smile grimly. 'I truly can't believe this...' He thought with a dark chuckle. '... For the first time ever, my body is actually tearing itself apart from how much power I've been forcing through it... All his muscles felt like a balloon that had been forcefully filled with pressurized air to the point of bursting. He had been using his ability for so long that he had never really thought about the repercussions. And in his defense, Hatoshi had never had to worry about such a thing in the past. Not even when he had fought Ryusuke

Chapter Sixty Seven: The Hunters' Awakening (9)
The two halves of a cracked button fell to the ground, destroyed by the the tip of the silver sword that had been brought to an abrupt stop less than a centimeter from piercing the chest of the alpha Hunter. Michael's left hand was clenched tightly around the middle of the blade, preventing it from moving any further as he glared at the shorter assassin who simply grinned at him and ripped her sword from his grip. He let go the moment she did so to avoid her blade drawing blood and she leapt back to put some distance between them. 'What was that?' Michael wondered silently. 'She just pointed her sword at me and said that word and it was like some of the strength in my right hand just disappeared.' ‘'Fūjiru'... that's a Japanese term for seal,’ the voice of his predecessor supplied helpfully in his mind.. 'Seal? Is she sealing away my strength?' ‘No, rather I think she's removing your speed instead. But with situation-dependent Variant abilities like this, one can never truly know

Chapter Sixty Eight: The Hunters' Awakening (10)
Seconds before the hurricane of annihilation could erase her from existence, Rin focused all her aura into the silver sword. The rushing influx of energy caused the weapon to glow a brilliant amber shade and the assassin pointed her sword directly at the approaching storm of magic. Michael hummed in interest as he watched the wave of his Erasure magic that had been disintegrating everything in the courtyard suddenly start behaving strangely. Instead of destroying everything it touched, the magic began to draw back into itself in a funneling motion into a point beyond the courtyard. He jumped onto the low fence that marked the beginning of the now almost non existent hedge to get a better look at the situation. As the magic rushed into her sword, Rin clenched her teeth as the massive influx of energy flowed through her body at a nearly overwhelming rate. The unique pattern on her sword's blade also lit up with a gray glow as the color of the aura around both the weapon and the wield

Chapter Sixty Nine: An Act of Mercy
The attack came out of nowhere. One second she was mere seconds away from beheading her target for assassination, the next saw a mysterious sword-like weapon moving to impede her own slash. At first Rin had felt terribly insulted when she had extended her senses towards the Hunter as soon as he began moving to accurately detect when and where his block or counter was coming from. Since he had somehow managed to create a way to completely negate her ability's sealing power, Rin could definitely not risk this fight going on any longer than it already had. But then she had realized that something was off with the way his hand was moving. No matter how skilled a swordsman was, there was a minimum amount of force required to back every single sword swing at the very least. But this guy... Everything was just so off! First there was the lackadaisical grip he had on the sword's handle, as if he was just asking for it to get knocked right out of his hand. And considering that the weapon w
