CHAPTER FIFTY-ONE
The atmosphere was stiff, the air, tense. Sweat dripped down Adam’s face, the creaking fan had stopped moving, but Adam knew the sweat wasn't as a result of the heat, but the turmoil and fear that currently had his heart squeezed, making his internal system boil over.Keeping his gaze on Jerry, he impatiently awaited his response. “Please Jerry, tell me what you know, or the reason you're saying that”Jerry got to his feet and clasped Adam on the shoulders, his tone serious as he responded“I may be wrong, but my mind hasn't been at rest where my Ariel is concerned. That bastard Bates seems like a fellow who would go through any length to get what he wants, and Cecilia my useless ex-wife is extremely ambitious to not do that man’s bidding so far it will profit her” he had a faraway look on, as he went on“We both know Cecilia isn't fond of her granddaughter. Ariel as we all know looks and acts like you. She claims Ariel reminds her of you, and you know there is no love lost between y

CHAPTER FIFTY-THREE
Water gathered in Jerry’s eyes, his throat clogging up, as he tried swallowing the lump in his throat, clearing his throat to speak, he nodded his head and spoke in a broken voice“Th-ank yo-u”“Anytime old man. I'll be going now, and I insist you go rest. You need it, Jerry”Jerry nodded, his eyes filled with gratitude. Opening his arms wide, Adam folded himself into it, and both men exchanged a hearty hug, clapping themselves on the back as they did.Adam gently pushed Jerry towards the direction of his room and watched him go in. Satisfied, he opened the door to step out, walking down the deteriorated stairs, an expensive car suddenly parked in front of Jerry’s house, causing Adam to halt in his stepsThree doors opened at once, and he was met with three varying degrees of glares and sneers.“Why the hell are you here you moron!”He watched as the three Martins scowled and glowered at him. They weren't worth his time, hence he ignored them and continued his descent, three car doors

CHAPTER FIFTY-FOUR
Without a moment of hesitation, she lifted her hand to land a hot slap on Adam’s face; she had gathered momentum for this and braced herself up. Her hand didn't touch Adam’s face, as it stood midair Adam had grabbed her wrist and was gripping it tightly, Cecilia began sweating “Is something wrong with you!? Release my mother's hand this instant you mad dog!” “You're going to pay for this, you bastard”Adam paid no heed to their shouts and rants, as he held on to the hand, immobilising her. He enjoyed seeing the flickers of emotion that passed through Cecilia’s eyes, wherein he read fear, confusion, contempt and dread, he loved that one most. He could feel Louisa’s fickle attempts to drag his hand down, but it had no effect on him, it was like the hands of an inexperienced child, trying to drag the hands of an adult. Bending his head, he narrowingly fixed his gaze on a sweating Cecilia, grinding his teeth as he spoke, “Do not for a second think I cannot handle you, nor break your h

CHAPTER FIFTY-FIVE
Adam kept staring at Cecilia blankly, without saying a word in response to her daughter's yapping. Adam’s demeanour made Louisa reflect on Williams’ remark of a few nights ago; causing her to wonder if he might have had some sort of backing. He had surely grown some balls from the Adam she once knew. The former Adam wouldn't have dared to threaten her mother. Cecilia on the other hand could not understand what was going on, and it infuriated her that Adam wasn't cowering on his feet as he ought to, rather he stood unmoving and unflinching She was going to let him have the last words, she wouldn't give him that satisfaction. Staring back at him intensely, without blinking her eyes, she held her chin high up and spoke in a steady voice that belied the turmoil she was feeling within, “I would like to see you try. If you think the issue with your family was child’s play, what I have in store for you would make you rethink!” She didn't have anything in store for him, but there was no n

“Adam is my guest, and I do not answer to any of you. What is it you say that he has done?” he asked Cecilia while raising his eyebrow Cecilia on the other hand, ignored him and kept massaging her hand“This idiot right here had the guts to place his stinking hand on my dearest mother! That is what he did, yet you stand there and defend him. So pitiful father!”Logan who had been cowering silently at a corner finally spoke up, frowning at Adam, and wishing for his pound of flesh. Adam silently shook his head, Logan was the least fish to fry, the least of his worries. “Well if that's the case, I'm certain Adam had his reasons, the Adam I know isn't prone to violence or lashing out. Cecilia most probably deserved it, with her inability to filter her mouth and thoughts” All three Martins looked incredulously at him, and gasped; their mouths wide open. Adam on the other hand was finding it hard not to laugh out, especially with the expressions on their faces. Jerry had never failed to h

CHAPTER FIFTY-SEVEN
The thug raised his head to glare at the speaker, his face tightened just as his lips pressed together, narrowing his eyes, he sneered at Adam“What the heck are you, and what gives you the right to interfere!?” Adam’s eyes twinkled with mischief, and he gave a bemused smile before struggling his shoulders in response“I'm an advocate against bullying of any sort. The people you are picking on are clearly outnumbered by you” while he spoke, he saw the burly man signal to his men, and from his peripheral view Adam could see them stealthy approaching, their weapons raised; ready to attack and braced himself for what they felt was an onslaught. Legs apart with his hands still behind him, Adam raises his eyebrow at the leader and clears his throat “I'll give you all but five seconds to clear yourself and your goons from this area” Adam calmly urged The leader guffawed loudly, raised his eyebrows while bending his head to one side, and in a mocking tone, “Or what?...” he eyed the lengt

CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT
Meanwhile, back in Jerry’s house, Cecilia sat with her nose in the air, a snide look on her face, her lips curled in hate and disgust as she glared at her ex-husband and simultaneously glanced around the room. She would forever be grateful that she left and divorced the pauper of an ex-husband who seemed to lack foresight and had the effrontery to insult her in the presence of the useless Adam. Louisa sat gingerly on the threadbare couch, subtly perusing the room and berating herself for coming. Seeing Adam here had ruffled her feathers, catching her off guard. She couldn't get over his last threat to her, what did he mean by his statement, “Wherever it is that you have my daughter hidden, I will unearth it, and when I'm done, I'll be coming for you” she involuntarily shuddered at the thought, if Williams had been around, he would have known what to say and how to reply to him. She had to find out why the stupid man had come by, and what he wanted. Her father wouldn't let Williams

CHAPTER FIFTY-NINE
Bored out of his mind, Logan got on his feet for a while and walked the room, his eyes darting everywhere as he did. Before long, his eyes rested on the chipped table where Jerry had placed the drink Adam had given him. Logan inhaled sharply, as he picked the bottle, turning it over and over. Opening his mouth but no coherent words came out, finally gathering himself, still holding on to the bottle, he gawked at Jerry and exclaimed “Father, where did you get this drink from!? This is a Golden Cascade Scotch! There are only three bottles of this kind in the world, where did you get it from? Who gave you this prized possession!? It costs a fortune!”Jerry smirked in response, and walked towards him, subtly taking his drink off Logan’s arm when he got to him. Smiling smugly, he lifted the bottle to his face and cast a side view at Logan and the rest who “If I told you, you wouldn't believe me.”Crossing her arms in front of her chest, Cecilia clenched her teeth, narrowed her eyes at J

CHAPTER SIXTY
Arriving at the Bates Mansion, Logan, who was the driver, drove into the massive compound, and once again Louisa couldn't get over the splendour and beauty of it. With its beautiful lawn and a heated swimming pool to the west of it, as well as a tennis court. The house was indeed a beauty to behold, unlike the shack she had previously lived in with Adam. Drink in hand, she made her way to the main house and found Williams seated on his favourite seat with a faraway look on his face. “Hey Will we're back, as you would believe what happened today, who we saw” she announced as she strode in, practically holding the drink carelessly. Williams’ face flushed brightly as he welcomed them in with a smile, his eyes shining as he got to his feet “I have the best news to share, and I'm looking forward to attending it” Louisa, seeing Williams’ happy countenance, smiled happily, and tossed the drink carelessly onto a nearby settee,:"share your good news with us,darling, I'm very sure it's mu

CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE
Shrugging half-heartedly, Louisa lifted her hands loosely and spoke in a flat voice, “Who cares? I took it from my father's house, Logan was the one who found it and he claimed Adam gave it to him” she snorted disgustingly and went on, almost mumbling to herself, “as if that cheapskate can afford to buy anything for someone, not to talk more of buying a supposed expensive drink” rolling her eyes exaggeratedly she scoffed loudlyWilliams on the other hand, drew back his head quickly, taken aback. Staring at Louisa, with his mouth slightly open, his eyes kept blinking, trying to process what he had heard. He shook his head in denial, and once again looked over the bottle Louisa had handed him, his eyebrows creasing as he did. His eyes moved over the bottle, trying to figure out the trademark and signature symbol to confirm the originality of the drink, he went completely still as he discovered the subtle symbol, he subtly swallowed the lump and gasp in his throat, Squinting his eyes,
