Chapter 8: The deal

“What did you just do?” Mick asked, half yelling.

He couldn’t believe what had happened. He stared with eyes gone gobsmacked, at the shattered David Webb.

David Webb is a necklace made of diamond stone. As a result, dropping the necklace wouldn’t make it shatter. Diamonds can only break when excess pressure is being applied.

"See, it's fake or why else would it break? A real diamond doesn’t shatter like that."

Hot anger surged through Mick. "What do you think you just do?" Linda asked in terror. Even though, she couldn’t help but find it weird that David Webb would break so easily. But she was still going to take Mick’s side.

Truly, it was fake but Mick was astonished at the fact that Brad could figure it out. When he got to Miller May, there was a buyer for David Webb already. The manager, after so much thought, concluded to sell the necklace to any buyer who could pay the highest amount for it.

The buyer was no other than Ava, a representative of StreamRoll, a very popular streaming platform among the students. Mick knew that there was no way he could win against her. How could he? The StreamRoll belonged to the Harrier family and so was Fast-tech. fast-tech is currently ranked as number one in the city.

So, Mick had to forcefully let go of it. But it was only one David Webb that was at Miller May and he had promised to get one for Linda. Besides, he had already called the gathering at Outback Steakhouse to flaunt his wealth and he couldn’t afford to call it off.

But how Brad knew was what he didn’t understand.

"How dare I try to pity you by buying you some meal but you chose to turn back on me?"

"Obviously, Mick didn't even know he brought an imitation. How dare you rub it on his face!" One of the students yelled.

They didn't believe it. Perhaps Mick was innocently deceived. Everyone knew Mick was rich. So, there was no way he wouldn't be able to afford a David Webb. Besides, who would buy the latest iPhone and still conclude that he had no money to get David Webb?

Obviously, the iPhone was more expensive.

"Yes," Bertha said quickly. "Coming from a poor guy like you. We all know how rich Mick is. What can we say about a poor and good-for-nothing guy like you, Brad? Can you afford the latest iPhone, can you?"

"Yes! Imagine! He came here to have free food and he dared to say this about the person buying it!" Mercury muttered, with hatred. She was Linda's best friend and has always hated Brad.

Brad scoffed. Mick obviously ordered an imitation because he had no money to handle it all. He didn't understand why people couldn't see that.

Linda was obviously carried away by the phone.

Linda turned to Brad, with an angry look. "Do you know how long I've asked you for a phone while we were dating? You couldn't even afford an iPhone, talk more about the latest one."

Some of the students laughed.

"Wasn't he a cleaner at one of the hotels here? He barely earns 1000 per month," Mick said mockingly.

Brad sneered. "And are you rich?" He directed at Mick.

Mick nodded proudly. "Of course I am," he said arrogantly.

"Then I would like to order more things to eat and drink," Brad said suddenly, stunning the students for a moment.

Mick, on the other hand, was hesitant because his money was from his father. If Brad ordered too much, he might not be able to handle it. And he couldn't afford to lose face in front of the students. So, he was scared.

Then he suddenly had an idea.

He smiled and looked at Brad. "You can order everything you want," he said confidently. "But I won't pay for your part. You will pay for anything you order for."

Mick thought if Brad would pay his part, he wouldn't order expensive things.

Brad laughed. "Ok," he muttered and beckoned one of the waiters closer. "I want ten expensive wines here," he muttered.

Mick's face changed. He had no idea what Brad was doing.

The waiter took a short bow and walked out to get the order.

"What? The most expensive?" Mercury bellowed. "Don't be silly, Brad. You can still change your mind."

Brad ignored her.

David turned to Kevin. "Did Brad win so much lottery?" He asked amazingly.

Kevin was shocked as well. If Brad really did win such money, he believed that he shouldn't use it on such unimportant things. Brad could waste the money and they might start from where they had ended it.

"But well," David shrugged slightly. "It will be amazing to disappoint Mick. He's always boasting and thinking he's the only one on campus," he said excitedly.

The waiter returned with two more waiters, carrying wines as well as the machine for payment.

"So, this is our most expensive wine, Chateau Mouton Rothschild and it cost 5000 dollars.

Bertha let out a heartfelt laugh. At first, she was scared because of the Royce Rolls that came to get Brad that afternoon.

But at the mention of the price, she knew that Brad wouldn't even be able to afford it. Perhaps he didn't even know it would cost much.

"Cut the trap! You can accept defeat now. Is it not late?" Bertha laughed the more.

"Exactly! It's not possible that he can afford 5000 dollars worth of wine in ten places," Mercury said.

"If he's able to do that, I will kneel in front of him and call him godfather," Bertha said quickly.

The waiter stepped forward with the machine. "The total amount of money is 50,000 dollars. May I have your card?"

Brad hesitated briefly before he stretched out the card to the waiter.

Mick's countenance changed. It seemed to him that Brad knew what he was doing, if not he wouldn't be so certain.

That aside, there was this look of calm on his face.

The waiter inserted the card and stretched it out for Brad to type in his password.

It beeped a red light and the waiter looked up. "Invalid, sir. This card is invalid."

Everyone burst into laughter.
