Chapter 07 : Go away!

Joe, who was left in the room by Jesslyn, was brooding. He was thinking hard to find a way to calm the showdown. Although Lucas promised to come, all possibilities could still happen, especially since their appointment time was long.

"What about this? What if Mr. Lucas doesn't come and breaks his promise like Jesslyn said? What if my wife's suspicion turns out to be true?" Joe massaged his sore forehead, having been overthinking lately.

While busy with his thoughts, Joe was surprised by Jesslyn's sudden arrival. His wife hadn't knocked at the door, so she quickly approached her husband and said, "Joe, get ready. My father has invited us to have dinner together tonight. He just got home and wants the whole family to eat together in the dining room." That was all Jesslyn said before she walked out of the room again.

Joe felt a little confused. It was rare for his father-in-law to invite him to dinner together. Usually, the man didn't care whether the members of this house had eaten.

"What's going on?" Joe muttered under his breath.

Joe's curiosity was answered after he set foot in the dining room. At the dining table, all the family members were already sitting neatly while staring at the sumptuous dishes served on the table.

In addition to family members, there was a woman whom Joe had never seen sitting together there.

"Come quickly, Joe. Do you want to starve us by waiting for me to walk over?" Rosetta said, trying to hold back some sharp words she wanted to say because she didn't want her new daughter-in-law to lose respect for her.

"Yes, Mom." Joe complied. He immediately quickened his footsteps and then sat down beside his wife.

They all started the second dinner, except for Ben and Noona, Zack's girlfriend, who had brought all the fancy dishes as a token of introduction.

"Hmm, very good. You will be the best daughter-in-law in this family." Rosetta praised Noona wholeheartedly. Her eyes glanced at her son-in-law, who seemed to be eating voraciously, paying no heed to her ramblings intended to satirize the man.

"You're right, Mom. Noona is the best prospective daughter-in-law for our family. You see, my girlfriend has only been to the house once and has already brought a lot of food for all of us. This food was also bought from a famous restaurant. Very different from ...." Zack glanced at Joe.

"Don't make a scene, Zack. We're having dinner." Jesslyn admonished her older brother. She didn't want them to fight again and end up like an hour ago.

"Yes, Babe. Don't be like that. Jesslyn's husband will do his best for his wife." Noona said softly, but her eyes flashed with satisfaction at the praise from her future in-law's family.

"But, Babe, Jesslyn's husband is useless. Let alone buy us expensive food like the one you brought, and he can't even bring a single fruit to this house because his money has run out to pay for many things." Zack defended himself and put Joe down again.

"What Zack said is true, Noona. Do you know? Joe's salary is only 1000 dollars per month. Try to imagine, with that amount, how much is left after paying for electricity, water, and household needs here. Let alone buy good and luxurious food, and he can't even afford his living expenses!"

Noona acted as if she was surprised. "Really? Isn't 1000 dollars too little for a marketing staff?"

"What can I say? He's only been working for three months and can't sell a single property, so he can only get a little commission from the company. It's sad, isn't it?"

Noona nodded. "If you can't survive in that company, you can ask me to help you find a better job. At the very least, your salary is more than 1000 dollars."

Zack and Rosetta laughed. They were both delighted after insulting Joe. "Are you listening, Joe? You better ask Noona for help to find a better job. So you can support yourself and not always bother your wife."

"Why don't you ask your girlfriend for help getting a job, Zack? Aren't you unemployed? You're even more pathetic than my husband." Jesslyn chuckled. She wasn't the type of woman who liked to stand idly by when someone insulted her.

"No need to interfere, Jess! I'm being kind by giving your useless husband a solution." Zack shot a hateful glare at Joe.

"Already, stop fighting. Do you guys have no attitude to fight in front of food?" Ben reprimanded them all. "Finish your food quickly," he ordered.

They all continued the dinner until it was finished a few minutes later. After they finished eating, they all gathered in the living room.

"Why did Dad ask us to gather here? I'm tired and want to rest soon." Jesslyn said in a lazy tone. She had no interest in talking to any of them, especially since Zack and Noona seemed to be stealing the opportunity to make out.

"Why, do you mind sitting here for a while? If you have a problem with that, then leave. You're not needed here." Zack replied with a stern tone.

"Whatever." Jesslyn prepared to get up from her sitting position, as did Joe, who wanted to follow his wife's steps back to the room.

"Sit down for a moment, Joe, Jesslyn. There's something I want to talk to you about." Ben said in a stern tone.

Inevitably, Jesslyn and Joe sat back in their original positions.

"Alright. Since you've all gathered, I'd like to say I'll give this house to Zack after he marries Noona."

Jesslyn, who heard her father's words, immediately gasped in shock. "Dad, what the hell? Why is this house being given to Zack? When he gets married, where will Joe and I live? What about you two later?"

Zack gave his sister a sardonic smile. He was delighted after hearing the decision from his father. "Why are you jealous of me?" he said.

"Dad!"

"Don't argue, Jesslyn. Your brother has promised Nona to gift her a house after they get married, and this house will be theirs."

"But, Dad, what about me and my husband?" Jesslyn demanded an answer.

"Don't you have a good salary, Jess? With that kind of salary, you can rent or lease a house. You could even buy a new house. Besides, you should feel sorry for your brother. Do you want Zack to live in poverty because he doesn't have the money to rent a house after marriage?" Ben glanced at Noona, then said, "Zack is still unemployed, unlike you, who already has your income."

"But Dad, my salary isn't much to buy a house either! Do you think that house is cheap?" Jesslyn protested to her father, while Joe could only restrain his wife's body from acting out further and ending up in an argument.

"Never mind. You don't need to protest anymore, Jess. This house should be rightfully mine because you became my husband's responsibility after you got married?" Zack replied with an opinion that he thought was very smart.

"Responsibility? Are you talking about responsibility to me? In that case, I shouldn't be responsible for this family anymore after marriage, right?" Jesslyn gave a wry smile.

Rosetta was surprised to hear her daughter's words. "All of us are still my responsibility, Jess. You have to give back to your parents who worked hard to raise you until you become your success today."

"That's it. Don't make a fuss. My decision is unanimous. No one can argue. This house will belong to Zack and his wife after marriage." Ben gave a final decision that no one could shake.

"Dad, this house is too big for you and Zack to live in. We can still live together and share the cost of this house. So, Dad doesn't need to ask the two of us to leave." Joe gave his opinion after a long silence and just observed the atmosphere.

"No way! I don't allow a loser to live in my house!" Zack said. From the words spoken by the man, one could hear the deep dislike in his tone of voice.

"Why are you protesting, Zack? What my husband said is true. This house is too righteous to be inhabited only by you. Besides, your future wife is too greedy. You two aren't married yet, but she's already asking you for many things."

Zack growled in annoyance. He threw a sofa cushion right at Jesslyn's face. Luckily, Joe could catch the thing in time.

"Zack!" Jesslyn shouted angrily.

"What, you want to get mad, huh?! Watch what you say, Jess. That lady isn't greedy, and she's just realistic. She's very different from you, who's willing to live in poverty with a useless husband like Joe!" Zack pointed at Jesslyn's face with his index finger. "You should realize, Jess, that your husband is no good."

"Heh, don't insult me and my husband. You son of a bitch! Unemployed!" Jesslyn prepared to hit her brother. Fortunately, Joe was always ready to restrain his wife's movements.

"Hold your temper, Jess. We'd better find a new place to live. Stop arguing, okay?"

Jesslyn exhaled her breath harshly. She walked away from there with a dominating feeling of disappointment, followed by Joe, who was always faithfully beside his wife.

Their departure was accompanied by Zack's satisfied laughter and insulting words that faithfully fell from his lips. "Hahaha, prove your words, cowardly man! I'm sure you two won't be able to rent a house and end up living on the streets!"
