chapter 10: Myres to Robert

Myers POV

I kept staring at Naomi in disbelief. I thought I would never see her again after she disappeared. But after she explained everything to me, including the death of Robert and how I was going to replace him, I understood.

However, I had two questions: “Why did you have to kill him? And how in the world is there a man I look so much like, to even convince his loyal men into thinking he is alive?”

Naomi's response was reassuring. “Don't worry about all this for now. All you have to think about is getting better. We spoke with the doctor, and he said, although it's not certain you'll be able to walk, they would do their best to see to it that you do,”

“We will fly you out of the country for the operation, and you'll stay there until you get better. Jack and I will go with you, as you will also learn to be the 'Robert Grey'.”

( Day for operation)

As I lay on the operating table, my heart raced with anticipation and fear. The surgeons and nurses buzzed around him, their faces masked and focused.

Naomi and Jack stood outside the operating room, their eyes fixed on the door. “Will he be okay?” Naomi asked, her voice laced with concern.

Jack nodded. “The doctors say the surgery is complex, but they're optimistic. He'll need time to recover, but he should be able to walk again.”

The hours ticked by, and finally, the surgeon emerged, his face tired but triumphant. “It's done,” he said. “The surgery was a success. But we need to monitor him closely. There's still a risk of complications.”

Naomi and Jack breathed a sigh of relief as they entered the recovery room. Seeing me lay there, eyes closed, and face pale.

As the days passed, I struggled to come to terms with the pain and the long journey of rehabilitation ahead. But with Naomi and Jack by my side, I found the strength to keep going.

The physical therapy was grueling, but I persevered, driven by my determination to walk again. And slowly but surely, I began to make progress.

One day, with the help of the therapists, I stood up, my legs trembling with effort. As I took a step, and then another, with eyes fixed on Naomi, who cheered me on.

Tears of joy streamed down my face as I took the first steps, my heart filled with gratitude for the people who had helped me through the darkest of times, even though it was at a cost.

As I continued to make progress, Naomi and Jack began to teach me the ways of Robert Grey. They showed me how to walk, talk, and act like him. I was a quick learner, and soon I was mirroring his mannerisms and speech patterns with ease.

But despite the progress I was making, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was living a lie. I was pretending to be someone I wasn't, and it weighed heavily on my conscience.

One day, as I was practicing my walk in front of the mirror, Naomi approached me. “You're doing great,” she said. “You're really starting to look like him.” But please don't be like him.

I turned to her, my eyes searching for answers. “But why did you have to kill him?” I asked again.

Naomi's expression turned somber, and for a moment, I saw a glimmer of fear in her eyes. “I killed him to save myself,” she said quietly. "Robert Grey was a monster, he treated me like trash, turning me into his sex slave. I needed to be free and also keep my family safe. He had to go.

I nodded, trying to understand. Naomi's words painted a dark picture of Robert Grey, a man who inspired fear and terror in those around him.

As I continued to learn and grow into my new role, I knew that I would eventually have to face the truth about Robert Grey's past. And I wasn't sure if I was ready for what I might find.

But one thing was certain, I was determined to make a difference, to use my newfound identity to make amends for the wrongs of the man I was pretending to be.

As I continued to learn and grow into my new role, I found myself spending more and more time with Naomi. She was my guide, my mentor, and my friend. But as the days turned into weeks, I started to feel a flutter in my chest whenever she was near.

One day, as we were practicing my walk in the garden, Naomi reached out and adjusted my shirt collar. Her hand brushed against mine, and I felt a spark of electricity run through my body.

“I'm sorry,” she said, her cheeks flushing pink. “I didn't mean to touch you.”

I smiled, my heart racing. “It's okay,” I said. “I didn't mind.”

Naomi looked up at me, her eyes locking onto mine. For a moment, we just stared at each other, the tension between us palpable.

Then, without thinking, I reached out and took her hand. “Thank you for everything,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “I don't know what I would do without you.”

Naomi's face softened, and she squeezed my hand gently. “You'll never have to find out,” she said. “I'll always be here for you.”

As we stood there, hands entwined, I knew that my feelings for Naomi went far beyond gratitude. I was falling for her, hard.

And as I looked into her eyes, I saw a glimmer of something there, something that looked almost like love, or I might just be insinuating as I am just a tool for her freedom.
