Chapter 13
George happened to be preparing Mr. Sutton’s medication in the kitchen. He could not conceal his joy when he heard Allen was back, and he immediately told Allen about Isaac breaking Gregory’s leg, exaggerating the process to make Isaac look bad.

Though Allen was infuriated, he also couldn’t help wondering when such a powerful person had shown up in Cloud City.

In the adjacent room, Gregory started wailing at the top of his lungs when he heard that his father was back, even going so far as to smash the things in his room.

“Sutton, do you mean to say that fathead is an extremely powerful martial arts expert and that we should look into his background first?” Allen stood with his hands behind his back. The ruckus Gregory was causing next door was getting on his nerves, but he still wanted to know what Mr. Sutton thought.

Mr. Sutton nodded. “Mr. Merck Sr., I don’t know much about Isaac Garten, but he’s probably just putting up an act. But that fat guy is definitely not someone to be trifled with. Based on what I experienced, he should be at least at the level of a martial arts master.”

“A martial arts master?” Allen’s expression became grimmer. Only one person in the whole of Cloud City was a martial arts master.

At this moment, someone knocked on the door. A young man came in and said tentatively, “Mr. Merck Sr., Mr. Gregory said… He said that if you don’t avenge him and kill Isaac Garten, he’ll… He’ll take his own life.”

“Tell him to shut the fuck up. If he really wants to take his life, he’s free to do it outside of the villa,” Allen roared.

The young man jumped and fled. His name was Mick, and he was Gregory’s personal attendant. Gregory was the one who’d sent him over to speak to Allen. When Mick returned to Gregory’s bedside, he told Gregory what Allen had said. It made Gregory’s face twist with rage.

“Mr. Gregory, you should get some rest to recover. I’m sure Mr. Merck Sr. will avenge you,” Mick said in a low voice.

“Yeah, right! The fact that he said something like that means he’s going to investigate first before doing anything. He might have the patience to wait, but I don’t.” Gregory’s eyes flashed coldly as the cogs in his brain turned.

He suddenly smiled menacingly and said, “That idiot, Andrew Booth, is having his wedding the day after tomorrow, right? I bet Allegra will be bringing her precious daughter along. I want you to find some drug addicts and remember to get the smarter ones. I have big plans for them…”

Allegra was depressed for the rest of the day. When she and Isaac left Riverview, they headed straight for Lakeview International Hotel. Not that she had anywhere else to go. She didn’t say much either when they went to pick Isabella up in the afternoon. This didn’t stop Isabella and Isaac from chattering away, though. They even made a date to go to the amusement park during the weekend.

The following morning, Isaac sat on the sofa with his legs crossed and eyes shut. He was drenched in sweat.

Allegra’s scream suddenly filled the air. His eyes snapped open, and he dashed into the room next door. He was greeted by the scene of Allegra standing before a mirror and staring at her face dazedly. She’d washed away the dark brown ointment to reveal a perfect face. She’d gotten used to seeing the scar there over the years, and it was shocking not to see it anymore. Mr. Crowe had truly treated her!

She looked at her reflection in the mirror to see bright eyes, glowing skin, shaped eyebrows, and two dimples. Compared with how she’d looked seven years ago, the innocence and naivety that belonged to a young woman had been replaced by a sort of maturity and elegance that of a grown woman.

When she returned to her senses and realized Isaac was standing next to her, she blushed and pushed him away shyly, saying, “Don’t look at me. This is my room; you need to leave.”

Isaac left obligingly and stood outside, listening to Isabella’s excited cries. “Mom, you’re so pretty! You look just like you used to! Are you feeling shy, Mom? Is that why your face is red?”

Soon, Allegra and Isabella came out. Isaac had already had a change of clothes and was waiting for them in the living room. When he turned to look at them, he saw Allegra wearing a mask. “Why are you covering your face?”

Allegra stammered out something about her not being used to the absence of the scar. Then, she hurried to the door while holding onto Isabella. The three of them went downstairs and hailed a taxi to Isabella’s school. Per her usual, Isabella waved at Allegra before turning to head inside. She seemed to remember something after a few steps. She ran back toward them and waved a hand at Isaac, saying, “Mister, can you squat down, please?”

Isaac didn’t know what she was up to, but he squatted down anyway. Isabella leaned down and kissed him on the cheek before giggling. “Bye-bye, Mister!”

He was taken aback, even a little dumbstruck. He suddenly burst into laughter, attracting weird looks from the other parents. Allegra was surprised by his hysterical laughter, but she was distracted by her vibrating phone. When she pulled it out and saw that Andrew was calling her, her heart started to race as she answered it.

Allegra was still dazed even after the call. Andrew had called to invite her to his wedding, and he’d sounded so enthusiastic. He’d repeatedly reminded her not to be late.

“Andrew invited you to his wedding tomorrow?” Isaac asked. He wasn’t smiling anymore.

Allegra held her phone tightly, nodding uneasily. She looked at him and said, “He said you’re also invited. I don’t know what he means by this.”

“He actually had the nerve to invite me?” Isaac sneered and lit a cigarette. There was obviously something afoot here.

“Alright, stop wracking your brains over this. Let’s go shopping,” he said.

“Shopping? What for?” Allegra looked confused.

Isaac pointed at her clothes. “Don’t tell me you’re attending the wedding in these clothes.”

She looked down at her cheap blouse and jeans, her face turning crimson again. Fortunately, the mask concealed this.

As night fell, the weather suddenly changed. Dark clouds filled the sky, and after a booming thunderclap, it started to rain cats and dogs.

In the Riverview villa, Edward, Margaret, and Andrew were going over the final details of the wedding.

Margaret flipped through the agenda the wedding planner had prepared, then said to Edward, “Edward, everything’s ready. The head of the Murray family is among the people we’ve invited, and I really don’t want those two bastards to gatecrash the wedding.”

“Ha, if that bastard dares to show his face here, Mr. Merck Jr. will kill him. The Merck family is out for his blood now!” Andrew said.

Edward and Margaret were surprised to hear Gregory would be in attendance. Edward lit a cigarette and said with a smile, “Margaret, there’s no need to worry. I’ve invited a martial arts expert to come and keep an eye on things tomorrow. With Mr. Merck Jr. and the head of the Murray family around, there’s no way he’ll be able to cause trouble unless he has a death wish.”

“A martial arts expert? Uncle Edward, are you referring to the most powerful man in Cloud City, Sean Nox?” Andrew’s eyes lit up. Rumor had it that Sean was a martial arts master, but few had seen him in the flesh.

Edward smiled, looking pleased with himself. “Mr. Nox is currently in training, but I managed to get the head of Thundermine Martial Arts Center, Mr. Ray Luther!”
